★ I’ve ‘had’ to buy myself a new mobile phone. I hate replacing technology before it’s broken but I’ve taken the easy way out in this case. The WA Government has bought out a WA Safe app for smart phones to make contact tracing easier.
Every time we go into somewhere like a library, coffee shop, hair dresser, church, exercise class etc we have to register as having been there. With the app we only have to scan the notification with our phone. Without the app we have to fill in a paper record.
My prior phone was too old for the app to download. I hate getting a new phone, it’s worse than getting a new computer complete with new operating system. I got it on Friday and I’m still trying to come to grips with it.
I think that a lot of people in other countries would kick up about our form of contact tracing but so far, our West Australian Government has kept us safe.
★ Last Wednesday was our NS Christmas Lunch. This year we went via a bus down to Dwellingup which is about 110km from Perth. Maybe my expectations were too high as Dwellingup is a small country town but the meal was crap. While doing the booking we had to put in any dietary requirements so I requested a vegetarian meal. When the meals started being bought out the meat eaters got two slices of meat, a scoop of a frozen vegetable mix, three small baked potatoes, a slither of baked pumpkin and a scoop of broccoli cheese. When my vegetarian meal was delivered, I got exactly the same except it was minus the two slices of meat.

I made these today, they turned out quite tasty :)
Pina Colada Rum Balls
150g Marie biscuits (or similar)
250g dried or crystallised pineapple pieces
4 Tablespoons white rum (I used Malibu)
80g desiccated coconut
60g shredded coconut
2 limes, zest only (I used one lemon)
180g White Chocolate melted
*Additional 50g desiccated coconut to coat the balls
In a food processor, blend the Marie biscuits to fine crumbs. Put into a bowl.
Using the food processor again blend the pineapple pieces and the rum together until they turn into a smooth paste, add to the bowl with the crumbs.
Add the remaining ingredients and work in with a big wooden spoon (or your hands) and quickly mix together.
Roll mix into balls the size of a 20c coin.
*Coat them in the additional coconut and pop them into the fridge until required.
Note:
I found the mixture quite stiff so I added an extra tablespoon of rum.
Sorry I've not been around commenting as much as usual, but my internet is slow and patchy. It appears that the undersea cable between Perth and Singapore which is our usual internet route to Europe is out of action. There is also a lot of trouble with the cables between Singapore and Europe.

It's your birthday!
I hope that it's a good one filled with love and good cheer
Love and hugs from your Aussie friend,

In 1975, when Paddy Wright's dog Strike died, this site was the softest earth he could find to bury his faithful friend. When Alan Henderson’s dog died he buried him alongside and put up a tombstone.
Many other people began to bury their dogs at the same site. Alan Henderson began putting head stones on the graves, for the fee of a bag of cement. He also began to decorate the grave sites and headstones with decorative pieces he would find fossicking at the tip. He would incorporate the dog's name and the owner's name in the headstones.
Corrigin is a dusty little rural town situated in our wheat belt. It and its Dog Cemetery aren’t the most photogenic of places. I was also there in the middle of the day which didn’t help.
It’s been many years since I’ve owned a dog and I am very much a cat person but as I walked around this little outback cemetery I felt my eyes misting over.
It had a very sad, solemn atmosphere; you could sense the buckets of tears that would have been shed there over the years.
More photos of the cemetery are under the cut.

Thanks to all my friends who sent me birthday greetings via e-mail, e-card, PM, posts and v-gifs. It's you guys, every year that make my birthday so special for me, getting birthday greetings from all around the world - that sure does make it special.
I'm sure that I thanked you all individually, so if you didn’t get my PM/e-mail/LJ comment the internet must have eaten it.
Hugs,
