[HnG] KaTsui pieces
Jun. 15th, 2006 09:11 pmDownloading stuff over the weekend has driven my computer to near crashage. Which is really kinda scary, because some pdf files, I only have one backup copy.
I have quite a few HnG KaTsui stories that are for all intents and purposes, in a coma-like state, not likely to recover. I think I've done right by them best I could. Anyway, they're up, unedited scabs and all, from the last time I wrote them.

[Trigun] VxW Wolfwood
Apr. 3rd, 2006 01:54 amToday I got vol 7 and 8 of Trigun Maximum (so delayed, exclamations etc etc). Was on the last train tearing through the volumes. I swear my hands are still shaking.
Have been preoccupied with thoughts of Wolfwood lately. His name, especially. Book 8 validates everything I feel about Vash re: Wolfwood. I had a very weird dream about them, but I cannot remember it.
I am compelled to say that in bed, my Wolfwood cannot look Vash in the eye. It has never, never happened.
Started this story before I got the volumes. Stopped it when the badness and lack of direction started clubbing me in the head. I'm keeping it for two metaphors and one turn of phrase.

So sometime back someone (I can't remember who, I was breezing through LJ) linked Annie Proulx's "Brokeback Mountain". The whole story. I seem to have lost the link, and I am so shameless as to wonder whether anyone can pass it to me again...?
Yeah, I watched the movie. Cried my motherfucking eyes out.
Hype or controversy or what (and given the nature of people perusing this LJ, I'm sure you have an opinion of some sort), it's a good story/movie, and I don't often get those.
[Edit]: It seems to me that you can tell a lot about a person by which character they like and/or feel sorry for more (which in itself is another indicator of...things).
I think Jack's character was acted out just fine, for example. Ennis was perfect (too perfect?) but it's not as lopsided as some reviews make it out to be. Also, reading the reviews made me cry. As did watching the interview with Ang Lee.

Feb. 4th, 2006 01:52 pmEverytime you get updates it means my RL is something I wish devoutly to avoid. Chotto disturbing, how much new manga I've been reading, and none of it yaoi. I think it's something terminal this time, doctor.
This is a public post because I'll be asking about another series here. But first, some Sanctuary-related stuff.
Here are some of the jacket covers for the Sanctuary novels, full of the rich creamy vitamin-enriched Asami/Hojo goodness. If you don't want to be spoilered, don't read the back covers, it's that simple.
If anyone wants in, leave a note. The more I think about it, the more I'm surprised by the level of appreciation. But then again, it's not exactly an easy manga to like. Maybe if you were a Tsutomu Takahashi (Jiraishin) type?
People in the filter, when hamayaki stops barfing up the zips, you'll get more.

Super cute and funny okay?!!?!
Here's a couple of links to reviews by people who do this (semi-)professionally. And of course, what half-assed badly-constructed LJ post can miss out on a Wiki link. Oh, and it won a prize.
If you really want a summary here that bad, here's a one-sentence version: 14 year old girl with a talented mouth goes around interfering with people's lives with her sidekick, a 30-something gullible mecha otaku sidekick, AND gets paid to boot.

The angst about it not being complete is...like that. It screams for continuation mostly because it was good. And refreshing. But then again, if it had gone on for another X number of volumes (five series simultaneously and messily come to mind) it wouldn't be.
But otherwise it can end there. Hell, it fits. Quirky. I like it.
Anyway same old thing: If you want it leave a comment to see the filter.

It's of passable quality, 6.32 minutes long, and has way too little of Gingetsu and Lan and Kazuhiko and ESPECIALLY Oruha (Where's Oruha?). Also, the song. The mildly traumatic thing is that the bird in there is exactly the same as the one I envisioned in Magnesium Oxide, down to pattern and colour.
