Molly Swift was Officer Swift until the day she got caught in a robbery turned hostage situation. It wasn't some grand villainous scheme. It wasn't a million dollars at stake. It was a kid, and a gun, and the next hit of heroin. And his panic meant that when she was shot in the thigh, she didn't get medical help until an hour later.
She lost the leg. Left leg, to be specific. Declined taking her former job at the police department, because who wants to ride a desk all day? And, for reasons even she doesn't really understand, took a job at the public defender. They have to have an investigator on-staff, after all. It's like being a detective. Without half the danger.
