Link: The Void/Tension: Beauty and Fear mean nothing if I cannot consume them
Game: The Void
LPer: CannibalK9

The Void is a stunning game that punches everyone who says games can't be art right in the face. It is also incredibly difficult and unforgiving. The universal sentiment in the thread is, "I'm so glad you're LPing this because I gave up a long time ago."
You are a soul who has fallen into the void instead of simply dying. You have the unique ability to convert color in its raw form (Lympha) into a usable form (Nerva) by passing it through your heart(s). You can use your Nerva to bring some form of life to the void, but... what are you really doing? You don't know. No one seems to know, as the beautiful and vulnerable Sisters, the hideous and fearsome brothers, and even Color itself give contradicting statements. This is a game where you'll be figuring out how to play right up till the end.
CannibalK9's oddly poetic and speculative commentary meshes well with the ethereality of the game. He does a great job of explaining what he knows of the game to the viewer. The quality of his videos improves greatly after the first few, once he fiddles with the settings and especially the mouse sensitivity. Don't let the initial jerkiness put you off.
Do note that the LP isn't finished yet, and it is quite NWS.

on 2010-04-26 01:16 am (UTC)Second best is the Pathologic LP, which I would link to, but I think the SA forums are down for non-members now. It's screenshot-based and it generally does a good job conveying the creepy bleakness for those who can't play it. (It's by The Void's developers, Ice Pick Lodge.) It's still being posted -- I think they're almost done with the first (of three) characters.
These games make me wish I had a PC and better hand-eye coordination, so I could play them myself.
(P.S. Is someone going to link to Boatmurdered? :)

on 2010-05-17 09:56 pm (UTC)It is definitely one of my favorites. I've been checking out the Pathologic LP, too (I caved and bought an account).
Clearly you should link to Boatmurdered! :D

on 2011-03-04 06:27 am (UTC)I also wanted to say a general thanks because your community got me into watching LPs in the first place, by linking to some outstanding examples and offering ressources. I've always been too shy to link to some of my own favourites but I appreciate what you were doing and I hope this comm is going to stay.
