Erik is strikingly handsome and has beautiful manners. However, there is an undeniable coldness about him. If he is planning an attack, one quickly discovers just how far his strength and creativity can push his power in pursuit of violence.

ABOUT
"I have been known by many names... Each name marks its own sin. And one day I'll answer for those offenses. But not today. Only my actions, what I do in the name of all mutants, hold any real meaning."

Erik is a man who has endured unimaginable suffering in his life and has been irrevocably shaped by it. He does not consider himself a pessimist, but logical about the nature of humanity and its propensity toward cruelty and violence. His absolute goal in life is to defend his fellow mutants against what he believes is humanity's inevitable attempt to annihilate them.

Many of his habits and methods are in service of that goal. He has a great deal of money, which he uses to build defenses and launch missions. He dresses very well, as appearing to have money makes his work easier. He does not drink to excess and does not use illicit drugs as these are distractions that can leave him vulnerable. Through study and practice, he has become a consummate engineering and technical expert in order to create the materials he needs to accomplish his goals.

Other aspects of his personality are things he intentionally cultivated in rejection of fascist ideals. He has a great appreciation for the avant-garde in art, fashion, literature and music. He abhors authority, particularly the military. His attitude toward sex, sexuality, and gender is libertine, to say the least.

He is endlessly fascinated by his fellow mutants, and is sincere in his envy of those with visibly obvious mutations. The awesome variety of their abilities is something he delights in, and considers one of the truly beautiful things in the world.

The single most important person in his life is Charles Xavier, his sometimes rival and lover. Before he met Charles, Erik believed he alone was the only mutant in the world. Their friendship helped him begin to heal from the damage done to him by Shaw and the Nazis, and the mission of uniting mutants gave him purpose after finally taking revenge on Shaw. It was Charles who lead him to mastering the full extent of his power, and whose love brought him back from the brink of total annihilation after the murder of Erik's wife and child. While Erik frequently finds Charles' optimism and benevolence misguided to the point of being dangerous, there is nothing he would stop at to ensure his health and wellbeing.

Erik's canonpoint is six weeks post X-Men: Apocalypse. He doesn't know about any of his children except the late Nina. Meeting his children will be a profoundly emotional event for him. Having children is extremely important to him as a mutant and a Holocaust survivor. It is an act of resistance against genocide.
PERSONALITY
"We are the future, Charles, not them. They no longer matter.”

Driven. Uncompromising. Brilliant. The events of Erik’s life have left their mark, forging him into the man he is. His commitment to the survival of the mutants at all costs is absolute. He will not compromise because he knows the cost of such an act. Appeasement is death. This is the single driving force behind everything he does. All other considerations, relationships, interests are distant secondaries to that mission.

Erik also has a keen intellect, with an interest in engineering. When not fighting the good fight, he spends his time developing technology to aid him in said good fight. He has a hard time with idleness. It is easier to keep bad memories at bay when he’s focused on a task. He does not sleep much.

He is also remarkably eloquent, and given to soliloquy when the time is right. He has a wickedly dry sense of humor. He loves deeply, though his expression of that love is sometimes incomprehensible to those it’s directed at.
PREFERENCES
"Kinky. By the way, if I looked like you, I wouldn't change a thing.”

Erik is bisexual, and recently widowed. While his relationship with Charles is profoundly important to him, it's not always sexual or committed. M/M or M/F ships are fine. Although it will take some time to get him to any sort of longterm commitment, once he is in a relationship he is monogamous. He has a particular interest in brunettes with great hair and forgiving natures, misfits in general and mutants in particular, and anybody blue.

For the purpose of memes or other inconsequential things, I'm fine with assuming some kind of relationship with his children. Generally, he is very considerate of Wanda to the point of preciousness, although sometimes if she gets assertive he can react with frustration. Peter/Pietro he is generally frustrated with, and frequently bickers with him. Lorna is his favorite and he thinks he hides it well (he does not at all).
HISTORY
"Still unwilling to make sacrifices. That's what makes you weak."

Erik was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, to a comfortably well-off Jewish family. He was the second of two children, his sister, Ruth, was two years older than him. His father, Jakob, was a decorated WWI veteran. His mother, Edie, was from Poland. After Kristallnacht, the Lehnsherr family fled Germany to Warsaw. Traveling with them was Erik's uncle, Max. They lived in the Warsaw Ghetto until they were transferred to Auschwitz. Jakob, Edie, Max, and Ruth all died there. Erik survived, his powers having caught the eye of Sebastian Shaw née Dr. Klaus Schmidt.

Shaw submitted Erik to medical and psychological torture in an attempt to draw out his powers. After the defeat of Germany and the liberation of the camps, Shaw disappeared.

A fifteen year old stateless refugee and orphan, Erik first went to Paris. He spent a few years there trying to catch up on all the education he had missed, working whatever odd job he could find, and learning how to exist in freedom. For a time, it was almost as if he could forget that any of it had happened at all. Once Israel was established as a sovereign nation in 1948, he emigrated. There he could no longer pretend. In talking with other survivors, he started putting together a plan to have his revenge on Shaw.

His path to revenge first took him through Eastern Europe and then America. There, he met Natalya Maximoff. They entered a relationship that was as intense as it was brief. The final straw for Natalya was Erik's plan to steal a huge cache of Nazi gold. He left to continue his mission, unaware that Natalya was pregnant with his eldest child, Peter.

After recovering the gold, Erik's hunt took him back and forth across the globe until in 1962 he nearly drowned trying to raise Shaw's submarine and was saved by Charles Xavier.

Despite their philosophical differences, Erik and Charles quickly fell into a passionate love affair that would shape the rest of both of their lives. Erik helped Charles begin his school and the X-Men. But the dream was not to last, and fell apart in Cuba; when Erik finally took his revenge on Shaw and Charles realized the validity of Erik's dire warnings when the U.S. and U.S.S.R. navies launched simultaneous missile attacks on them.

After leaving Charles paralyzed on the beach, Erik took over the Brotherhood of Mutants. His leadership was brief and tumultuous, both interpersonally and in what they were able to accomplish and Erik was soon falsely convicted of the assassination of JFK and imprisoned beneath the Pentagon.

In 1973 he was broken out of jail by Logan Howlett, Charles Xavier, and Peter Maximoff in an effort by the time traveling Logan to change the past. By the end of this misadventure, Erik had threatened Richard Nixon, and was narrowly prevented from assassinating him by Raven Darkholme. Dejected and defeated, Erik fled to Poland. There, he met and married Magda Eisenhardt. They had a daughter, Nina, who soon displayed mutant powers of her own. Erik's peace was not to last, and after saving one of his fellow steel mill workers during an earthquake he was confronted by the local police. In the ensuing conflict, Nina attacked the police and she and Magda were killed. In his rage and despair, Erik slaughtered the police and was recruited by Apocalypse to be his first horseman.

Under Apocalypse's direction, Erik reached the full destructive potential of his powers and nearly ripped the mantel off of the Earth's crust, slaughtering all of mankind. Reminding Erik of the love they shared, Charles was able to fight through Apocalypse's control, and convince Erik to turn on his master. Working with the rest of the X-Men, Erik was able to assist in Apocalypse's defeat.

He returned to Westchester with the X-Men, and remained there for a few months. He helped rebuild the mansion and began to heal from his latest grief. But eventually, his mission called him away and he had to leave once more.
