a light to burn all the empires
[He'd expected the others to treat him a bit differently once it started going around that he and Ren were actually dating.
Not that he'd really use that word for what they had between them, but it was easier than any other explanation that he could come up with. It wasn't like either of them could really admit their penchant for fighting, bleeding one another, and then collapsing in to bed together afterward in a strange game of dominance and submission and pain. Not only would Ren's friends not understand - they'd probably have him committed if they knew even a fraction of what Ren and Akechi truly got up to together.
He had been expecting some sort of change, but for the most part, it seemed that no one really wanted to talk about it - at least, not anywhere Goro could hear. The tension between Akechi and Ren has been palpable for weeks, and so to an onlooker it probably makes sense that they'd fall into a strange relationship like this. Akechi takes care to not stand too close to Ren in group settings, to not say anything that could be misconstrued as an implication to what they do together. And for the most part, it's fine.
It doesn't stop him from wanting to touch him, though. Wanting to be closer to him, even as they start their long campaign to infiltrate Sae's palace. Akechi finds that he trusts Ren at his back - they work well together, seamless and brutal, without needing to communicate or check if something is okay. It's an advantage that they both manage to make use of: Akechi will jump in for the kill on a lesser shadow and leave himself unguarded, trusting Ren to press their advantage and keep the elite from killing him.
They make it out after the first infiltration with a will seed and several unlocked doors to their name - all in all, successful for a few hours' worth of work. Back at the entrance, there's a short debrief and then they're all standing in front of the courthouse again, wearing their street clothes and none the wiser.
Akechi is still breathing a bit hard.
That last fight had been difficult: he'd been hit badly, slammed into a wall hard enough to shatter his ribs, and only saved due to Ren's quick command to heal him. They'd managed to finish the rest of the fight off with the help of their companions, but his adrenaline is still running high, even though he knows he should be exhausted after so much effort.
It still feels strange, every time, to have his body knitted up like new.
His sharp eyes are on Ren while the Thieves start chatting idly, reminiscing about the fights and guessing what still laid in store for them. He doesn't know what he wants, but at least now it's not strange for him to be staying around, to move slightly closer to him - but Akechi doesn't touch him, no matter how badly he wants to. They're not alone yet, after all.
It's for that reason that he still wears the mantle of the Detective Prince, polite and thoughtful as he looks back toward the street that leads to the train station. With the girls talking and Ryuji trying to hype Yusuke up on a new restaurant, they have some modicum of privacy to chat.]
...thanks.
[It's not difficult to thank him. He thought it would have been.]
For healing me. You could have let me sit there until the fight was over, but you didn't. I appreciate that.

And yet, they clearly still had their doubts, just as Ren did... at least internally. He hadn't steered them wrong yet, after all. Their reputation might be in the toilet, but there was still time to build it back up. Public opinion might be bad, but even still, requests kept coming in on the website... though admittedly at a much slower pace, but it showed him that somewhere there were still people believing in them. And they were the key. He hoped. But still, he would rather not have to do any of it. He'd rather only get close to the fire and not risk being burned by it. He'd rather just feel the warmth of affection from Akechi instead.
The path had been more or less secured, the Will Seeds obtained, and the Shadows analyzed and memorized. It had been a tough fight to get there, but Ren is certain they could do it now. But... he's not sure he's ready to. If something goes wrong, Makoto could lose her sister, just as Haru had lost her father... And there's still the whole thing about being so close to the police in everything... it truly does feel like he's trying not to be burned by being too close to a candle. Terrifying in every measure, but still exciting. If they can get Sae Nijima on their side... they might just be home free. Now he understands with full clarity Akechi's arrogance; being able to wield that kind of power with impunity is an appealing prospect. One he wouldn't mind enjoying at least for a little while.
Outside the Palace, Ren settles back into his quiet public persona, hanging back to spend a little quiet time with his 'boyfriend'. As soon as they're together, Morgana rolls his eyes and hops out of his bag, giving them a little bit of privacy. He's been the most vocal of all with his protests. It's been nearly nonstop since he told him what was going on. Constant worry and lamentations. He's been the hardest to convince. Maybe it's the way he looks at his phone when Akechi texts, or the physical evidence of their being together he catches when he's changing, but he at least pretends to understand and that's enough for Ren. For now. ]
Of course. You're part of the team. It was getting tough and I need everyone on their best foot. If I'm going to be the leader, shouldn't I be taking care of you all? It's my fault you're in that situation in the first place.
[ He offers a soft smile and reaches out, catching his pinky briefly with Akechi's. They can't show much affection... not in public thanks to Akechi's profile, but even just a short, small touch he hopes is enough to placate the need for a little while. ]
How do you feel?
no subject
[His heart flutters at just that softest point of touch and Akechi slowly moves to hook his pinkie around Ren's, holding him for just that little bit. Just this point of connection feels good and calms some anxious part of him that has been reeling ever since he'd been hit.
He's missed him. As their pursuit of Sae winds to a close, he knows he's going to miss him even more, later on. How does it feel like his world begins and ends with Ren? All he'd done was - touch him, care for him, heal his very literal wounds. Each day they move forward is a day closer to his plan being enacted, and Akechi feels as if his whole life is on a thin wire, stretched out, unable to decouple from. There's only one path forward and he tries to tell himself that nothing else matters, but the more he spends time with Ren, the more he starts to doubt.
It won't be long now, he thinks. That only makes him desperate to spent every moment he can with him.]
I was... wondering if you wanted to come over, [he offers, his tone light and casual,] we could watch a movie.
[Akechi lives alone, though he hasn't mentioned that to anyone yet. He's also never invited Ren over - or really talked about his home life at all. He knows that doing this is a risk. His apartment is scrubbed clean of all of his possible associations, but there's always a chance he's missed something, and always a chance that someone could try to contact him there while he has company. It's unlikely, but possible, exposes a potential vulnerability that he doesn't have to.
But he just wants to spend time with him. Just a little more, before the end.]

[ He gives Akechi's finger a gentle tug and releases it. He moves onward alongside him, unaware of the very real ticking clock on his expiry on his head in anything but theory. For now, just being able to spend time with Akechi has been nice enough, to get the excitement he's been craving and maybe even getting to turn things around in the meantime. How his efforts will pay off? He's unsure, but that doesn't mean that he can't try at the very least.
The question comes as a surprise to Ren. Akechi has been thus far very private about his personal life, to the point where Ren has just been certain that he's just not allowed ot know about that aspect of his life. It's not fair, he decided, but if that's what he has to go through to keep this relationship going, well, maybe it's worth it. He catches Morgana's eye, who quickly looks away and flicks his ear and tail with annoyance. Of course he's been listening. ]
That.. that sounds nice, actually. [ Morgana huffs and trots on up ahead to join Ann and join in her conversation. He knows when to get lost. ] You sure it's okay? I won't be intruding in on anything, will I?
no subject
[Akechi smiles brightly, his usual mask when he's around others. He can tell he's still not exactly popular among the Thieves, but they seem to be still accepting his general presence. At least, no one has seemed too overprotective of Ren, save for a few disapproving glares sent his way. Akechi can handle those easily though, particularly when his whole focus tends to dissolve everything but the boy next to him away, in static noise around them both.
God. He's really got it bad. Something about the last time they were alone together down there in Mementos had wormed its way into his chest and sent fractures all throughout him. He's rattled, anxious, throwing himself into this charade of boyfriends because he wants to relish every moment he has until he ruins things again.
But he can't think about that now, can't think about how Ren seems genuine when he says he was worried about him. Akechi pushes it away and maintains his smile, his fingers tightening a bit on his bag.]
It's not far from here, actually. I live in an apartment in the city.
[He doesn't say he lives alone, at least not yet - not only would that be an alarm bell for the others, but it also signals just what he's planning on doing with Ren, all the way up in his apartment. They'd either assume he was going to kill him, or that he intended on debauching him, and Akechi really doesn't want either of those options to cross anyone's mind.]
no subject
He drops his voice a little so that even Morgana with his attentive ears can't hear him over the exciting conversation up ahead. ]
Is it going to be okay? For noise, I mean. I don't want to cause you any trouble or anything...
no subject
It's... [He clears his throat softly, having a bit of difficulty saying this, for all that he's supposed to maintain a humble and meek outer layer.] ...it's a very nice apartment.
[It's the sort of apartment that top earning businessmen buy to do their shady dealings in, whether carnal or violent. Of course it is - it's funded by Shido, after all, to keep tabs on him, so that Shido knows where to find him when he has another task that only an assassin could fill. As such, it's quiet, relatively insulated for sound, and if anyone hears anything... well, it's no worse than what goes on in some of the other apartments in the building.
Ren's concern is still touching though, and Akechi leans over to bump an elbow against him - casual, just a light prod to tease him with, for all that he wants to touch him so much more now.]
Don't worry about me.
no subject
Of course he would live in a nice apartment. It makes him wonder why he ever bothered settling for Ren's dusty attic and his terrible tiny bed at all when he could have just as easily dragged Ren back to his apartment instead. Well, maybe not that strange considering he didn't seem to mind a random tunnel in Mementos and nearly knelt for him in a dirty alleyway. Maybe he was just... that way, willing to degrade himself for pleasure. ]
I'll try not to. You don't make it easy, you know.
[ He smiles at Akechi. It sounds like their plans for the evening are more or less set. He excuses himself for just a moment to talk to Futaba, asking her to look after Morgana or let him back into the café. Either way, he'll be close to home and possibly with a friend if he wants to be. She seems to be amenable to the arrangement, demanding something sweet as thanks for the herculean task of possibly walking half an extra block out of her way. She gives him a knowing grin which has his pale skin lighting up with embarrassment. As he falls back in step with Akechi, he sighs a little, happy to have that off his mind at least. ]
Do we need to stop anywhere beforehand for supplies or.. do you think you have it covered?
no subject
[It sounds so ominous when he says it like that, but really, it would be out of character for him if he hadn't planned ahead. Of course he'd gotten everything they might want to use, as well as some... extra supplies, just in case. He'd had no real guarantee that Ren would ever come back to his place, but it hadn't been an imposition to buy things to have on hand anyway.
They stop by the train station and Akechi watches quietly as everyone says their goodbyes, waving a little as they make their departure, but not trying to make conversation or insert himself in any of the exchanges. He's still - separate from them in too many ways, and he wouldn't consider any of them friends, even if he wasn't planning on betraying them at the end of the month.
Ren, though... Ren is different. As soon as the last of Ren's friends board the train, Akechi's face falls and his shoulders go slack, as if some of the tension in him had been cut. His posture shifts, sliding easily from the charming detective to - something else altogether. It's still not the truth, not entirely, but it's closer to it, something that only Ren gets to see.
When he speaks, his voice is duller, less bubbly.]
You're not hungry, are you? I have some food back at my place, but we could stop for something too.
no subject
As the group says their goodbyes, he once again thanks Futaba for looking after Morgana, and thanks everyone for their hard work. There's still some time before the deadline, so they can relax just a little while longer. Still, it's important to let everyone know that they're appreciated for their contributions. After all, they couldn't do it without everyone helping out. He's happy to see everyone off, at the very least so he can get a little bit of time with Akechi before they board the train. It shouldn't be terribly busy at this time of day but still, closer quarters mean less privacy sometimes. And as soon as they're out of sight, he notices the very visible change in Akechi's posture, one he's gotten more than used to of late, that lets him know that he's dropping the mask and getting himself ready. ]
Maybe.. we could get take-out, or order something in. I'm not that hungry right now but.. I have a distinct feeling I'm going to be later.
no subject
Akechi glances away.]
I didn't want to say this in front of the others, but I live alone.
[Which... should be more or less obvious, given what he's already told Ren about his family life. His expression is surprisingly blank as he continues, even and measured.]
After my last foster home, I filed paperwork to be legally emancipated. It's easier if a celebrity doesn't have any family ties, right? [It's a rhetorical question. He shifts from one foot to another, watching as they pass through the next station. Nervous, somehow, even now.]
Anyway, I make quite a bit of money with my consulting work and public appearances. Enough to live comfortably. So you don't have to worry about anyone walking in on us or anything.
no subject
But he listens intently to hearing his tale, and he's rather impressed. He didn't know how easy it would be to have something like that arranged, but when you're as famous, well-connected, and apparently wealthy as Akechi is, surely just about anything should be possible. He can't say he's not just a little envious, though he tries not to show it on his face. Even when he wasn't living in an attic above a café, his home life had been pretty modest and unnoteworthy. He'd wondered what it was like in those tall residential buildings at the very top. Stories and gossip of wild parties and impossibly luxurious amenities always swirled around the wealthier kids in school, but he'd never known any of them well enough to actually get to experience anything like that. ]
That's a relief. That means we don't have to hurry or end things early either, does it?
no subject
You can stay the night if you want.
[Akechi says it without really thinking. He's thinking about his apartment, about how lonely it can be in there - he's thinking about Ren coming into that space and changing it with his presence. Akechi has spent a lot of time there in silence. He wonders what it would sound like if their screams echoed off the walls.
Once he realizes what he's said, he's a bit surprised with himself, but he doesn't take it back. The idea of getting Ren alone all night, of being with him... maybe that's the real reason he invited him over. If not for the sex, then the hours of companionship that they could spend together, before they had to return to the real world. Whatever the case, the invitation is out there now, up to Ren to decide what to do with it.
Helpfully, he adds:]
I don't have anywhere to be in the morning.
no subject
That.. sounds nice. If I'm not imposing on you at all, anyway.
[ Will he feel different once they've gotten everything out of their system? Will Akechi be filled with the same regret and self-loathing that had led him to storming out of Ren's attic? Will he get tired of him after the lust is gone and the cold, distant feeling settles back in? He hopes not, not sure he can handle the walk of shame back to the café at too strange an hour. He'd almost rather stay in the bath house until morning in that case. ]
Besides... maybe I can make something in the morning. It'll be nice to have something for breakfast that isn't curry and coffee for once.
no subject
[He really doesn't live far - the next stop is his and so he nudges Ren so that they can get off the train. Akechi leads the way then, back up out of the train station, into the bright city aboveground. He lives in the heart of Tokyo, near enough to all of his social engagements that he can flit in and out quickly, in case Shido might need him for something. Akechi steers Ren through the streets, lit-up screens and flashing advertisements lighting the way through the evening light.]
You're awfully polite for a delinquent, you know.
[He's so concerned about inconveniencing him or others around him... Akechi isn't sure why. So he teases him for it a little, turning down the street toward his building.
Akechi lives in a high rise, an impossibly tall, thin building with a glassy exterior that reflects the light against it. The bottom floor is comprised of small specialty shops nestled around a marble elevator lobby. Akechi digs through his pockets for the key before scanning it near the call button and pressing it, stepping back to wait for it to arrive.]
Hard to imagine you're the same person who orders me around so much. [He muses - the lobby is empty, no one around for them to hide from.]
no subject
I'm just trying to keep my head down and wait out my probation. I really don't need this on my record when I'm trying to apply to colleges or anything. Besides, what's wrong with being polite?
[ Even having heard of Akechi's rather generous wealth before, it's still a little startling when they actually walk into the building and he gets his first taste of luxury in just the lobby alone. He feels like he's in way over his head and even more out of place than he usually is. ]
Well, I wouldn't do it if you didn't like it so much. I'd let you do it too if it didn't make you think you'd have free rein to kill me afterward.
no subject
[He ushers Ren into the elevator when it comes, pretending not to notice how startled the other boy is in the face of this place. Akechi feels nothing for it: it's paid for with blood money and a useful tool for keeping him tightly on the other end of Shido's leash. The elevator crawls upward and Akechi watches idly as the floor indicator ticks up further and further.
They get off at the twenty-first floor - not anywhere near the thirtieth floor penthouse, but close enough, and Akechi leads Ren through the narrow hallways until he finally reaches his front door and unlocks it, stepping aside so that Ren can move in.]
... welcome in.
[His apartment is neat, minimalist one bedroom, so sparse and empty that it almost looks like a display room, rather than something actually lived in. Akechi removes his shoes in front of the door and closes it behind them both, hesitating for a moment as he watches Ren take it in.
Most of it is reminiscent of a studio apartment, with the kitchenette, dining area, and living area folded into one large room. Unlike a studio apartment though, the ceilings are high and the far wall is simply a floor to ceiling window, looking out over the sparkling lights of the city. There's a tiny hall tucked near the front door, which leads to several other doors: presumably a bedroom, a bathroom, and a small closet. It's not the largest living space, but it uses what space it has very well.
It's also almost devoid of anything livable, stark and empty and sterile, the surfaces all utilitarian glass and steel. It's had to be blank, for the meetings he sometimes is forced to have here, and so if Ren was hoping to glean anything about Akechi's personal life by coming here... well, he might see that Akechi's life is crushingly empty, but that's about it.]
The bathroom is down the hall.
no subject
The sheer... emptiness of it all definitely doesn't escape his notice, however. It seems very much like just a place he goes, not so much one he actually lives in. Though with someone as busy as Akechi is, it makes a tragic amount of sense, and he can't help but feel the sadness in his heart. There's precious little that actually gives anything away; no habits, no hobbies, not even personal taste. And he... lives like this? Even Ren has a modest shelf full of mementos taking up a not-insignificant portion of his cramped space. ]
It's... wow! I don't think I've ever been somewhere so fancy that wasn't offering a buffet.
[ He removes his shoes at the door, stepping in fully to really take a look around. He laughs a little and smiles over at him. ]
Something tells me you don't really entertain a whole lot, huh?
no subject
You're the first person I've invited here.
[All of his other company - what thankful little there were, as Shido preferred to have meetings via phone or in his office - was definitely not invited by him.
He wants to... he wants to hold his hand. He wants to take him through every surface of his place and have Ren leave his fingerprints. He wants to take him into bed immediately, he wants to hit him for daring to look so happy, as if he's pleased just to be near him, just to spend time with him, with no idea of how precious little time he has left. Akechi steps in close, his arms lifting up to rest on Ren's shoulders as he offers him an appraising look, the adrenaline rush from earlier starting to kick back in, now that they can be alone together.]
It's too bad your friends know you're with me, you know. This would be the perfect place to torture you.
[Is he joking? Ren has willingly stepped into places alone with Akechi over and over again, and each time he's had at least some form of safety net, but that doesn't mean he walks away unscathed. Akechi's apartment might as well be the heart of his spiderweb, for all the opportunity it could have given him.]
no subject
[ Somehow it doesn't seem possible, and yet, he feels an immense sort of pressure put upon him upon learning it. Whether or not it's actually true doesn't even seem to register with him and he draws his arms in close to his body, almost afraid to touch anything for fear of ruining its "mint-in-box" status.
It's almost too much, but he sets his own bag down and zips it up to keep any stray cat hair from finding its way out. Ren wanders inside, his imagination going absolutely wild with all of the things he could do with a space like this. His family could live more than comfortably, he imagines, with room to spare for activities or hobbies.
He's startled back to reality when Akechi asserts himself into view, and suddenly Ren remembers what they're there for. Right. The sun outside was giving up its last vestiges, giving way to the light pollution of the city. He can feel his body already starting to wake up and respond to the proximity of him, already getting something of a Pavlovian response, much to his dismay. ]
Too bad for you, huh? And we're not in the Metaverse anymore so if you wanna hurt me, you've gotta be careful. Must be hard to work within parameters, huh?
[ As if Akechi isn't up to a challenge. He's not sure about how much of what he'd said was a joke or a true desire, and he's almost a little disappointed that he can't truly find out. ]
It's not losing if I tell you to do it though, is it?
no subject
Seeing him in his apartment is shockingly intimate, as if he doesn't belong in this perfectly curated space, but he makes it better regardless. Ren breathes life into this place, makes it seem like more of a livable space than the prison Akechi has taken it to be since he's moved in. He likes the look of the other boy here, likes the companionship that it implies - and he especially likes how Ren reacts to his thinly-veiled threat.]
I think we both have desires that put us at a disadvantage. [It's one of the many reasons that this works at all. If Ren had just been dominating, overwhelming, smug in his own victory without ever giving an inch, then Akechi would have grown too frustrated with himself for giving in to see this through. It would have been easier to cut that off and lock away that part of himself that loves it when Ren takes the reins, drags him around by his hair.
No, it's that Ren wants to do that - and Ren also wants him to hurt him, to make him stupid and useless with lust, to be put back in his place and mocked for it now and again. The transfer of power is intoxicating and unpredictable and ultimately results in their mutual assurance. As long as they know one another's weakness like this, they never win and they never lose.]
If you think I don't know how to torture someone without leaving obvious marks, you don't know me very well. [It's mostly teasing, sort of - it's not like he really brought Ren here for that reason, but he admits that it's a nice thought.]
I want you on every surface of this place. Do you think you can keep up?
no subject
The insistence that Akechi knows how to hurt people without marks is not just surprising but a little concerning. How had he known to do that? Sure, the police could be less than gentle, but someone like him, someone so young? ]
You're right. Silly me.
[ Aaaand note.
He can't deny that it sounds nice, though, and just the thought of it has his hands falling to his waist, sliding along them with interest and the ulterior motive of untucking his shirt. ]
I'll give it my best shot.
[ Ren then leans in, lips and teeth drawing hungrily against his neck with a soft sigh while his hands tighten on him and pull Akechi against him with a soft sound of satisfaction. ]
Show me what you've got.
no subject
The window is right there and Akechi forces Ren against it, his hands slipping down to unbutton his blazer. He leans in close, crowding him bodily against the glass as he tugs Ren's school jacket off of his shoulders, already hungry for him, unable to hide his desire any longer. The window is sturdy, of course, but it still feels disorienting to stare out at a dead drop of hundreds of feet, the lights of Tokyo sparkling underneath them as if reflected off of the surface of water.
They're too high up for anyone to see, but even this feels - public almost, like he's showing off in front of the whole city, flirting with the danger of being seen. Akechi slides his hands behind Ren, cushioning them against the window and digs his fingers into the alluring curve of his ass.]
Here.
[It's growing in his chest, his need - his lust for him, and Akechi is already starting to ache for it.]
I want to suck you off first. Right here.
no subject
You know, I'm beginning to think that's all you want me for. You like my cock that much, huh? I'll be happy to give you as much of it as you want.
[ It's a bold claim, but he figures one way or another Akechi will be getting it anyway. He lets a hand wander up to his hair, slipping through it while he leans in to tease a kiss, only brushing their lips before his teeth snap and nip at his bottom lip. The hand in his hair grips and tugs down. He can't suck him off from up here after all, can he? ]
Get to work. I want my cockwarmer nice and hungry for me to use.
no subject
Then, he slides to his knees with a practiced ease.]
Maybe it is all I want you for.
[He teases even as he reaches to undo Ren's pants, hurrying with the fastening, the zipper - like most of the times they'd done this, Akechi doesn't bother trying to get him naked, just undressed enough to get at his cock. Like this, Ren can feel like a king overlooking the city, can feel the power that comes from flaunting what they have, and Akechi wants to give this to him.
It really is a nice view.
He gets his mouth on him quickly, tasting him with a low groan and already working diligently to get him to full hardness. Akechi has learned now what Ren likes and he puts it to use, looking up at him with large eyes and goes at him as if he'd been starving for it all day.]
no subject
Thanks. That feels great for my self-esteem.
[ And yet, he can't be more pleased with how eagerly Akechi gets to work. He lets out a soft sigh and strokes his hair with an appreciative touch when he feels that warm, wet tongue begin its appreciation tour of his cock. He meets those eyes evenly, taking his time in admiring such an earnest expression on someone so usually aloof and with very practiced expressions. He looks cute like this. ]
God I can't wait to paint that cute face of yours with cum.
