| Community Description: | Maximilian Voloshin, a Symbolist poet, painter and philosopher; his time, influence and relevance |
"To realms of love we are delusive comets
Locked out of the trusted orbits' path.
The truth of dreams escapes the earthly wrath,
The voices of the suns of midnight call us.
Evaded holy bath in Lethe's cold course,
Our spirit's poisoned, recollections tough.
We take the extraanimary scuff
Of the expelled, the strangers, the uncommons.
The sighted one, but dazzled by the day,
Who is alive but born for prison stay,
Who praises earth as holy relegation,
Who visions dreams and recollects the names -
Not pleasure of reunion he gains
In love, but secret joys of separation."

Historically associated with the Symbolists, Max can hardly be reduced to a specific context, country, style or movement. Geographically, his paths extended from Paris to Central Asia. As a poetry writer, he hardly fit in the boundaries of any guild, circle or group. Responsive to history in the making, he refused to be anchored to a particular tongue or epoch. In poetry, he navigated freely between sonnets in Alexandrine and verse libre. His character is infinitely standalone and infinitely free; a being irreducible to identities. He was a guest in the world - and a profoundly thankful guest.
If doctrines become traditions when they get inhabited, Maximilian Voloshin may arguably be called the first inhabitant of theosophy.
This community is created to share everything related to Voloshin, not only as a person, but also as a model of a worldview; poets who wrote like, and painters who painted like.
The Prometheus mural at the South San Francisco Caltrain station is a perfect example of what belongs here.
Post (and expect) questions, links, translations and critique, jokes and personal stories, landmarks, events, work in progress at any stage of maturity. Critical responses are welcome unless the poster explicitly states otherwise.
The "seed" languages of this community are English and Russian, but posting in other languages is also encouraged; Max would have welcomed it.
