The Apple-Tree Throne by Premee Mohamed
I kept on hoping this would go m/m because the hints were pretty there!! but alas it did not go in that direction. I would love some suitably tragically prequel or sequels of this! Loved the alt!Edwardian worldbuilding, it would be great if subtle elements could be interwoven into the story, perhaps through newspaper articles or letters from the home front?
Ben Braddock/Theodore Wickersley
- Ghost!sex.
- I would love some suitably tragically prequel or sequels of this! I mean hurried relations in on the war front, the final night before the massacre or a ghostly visitor while Braddock manly touches himself?
- Or even an alt!fic where Wickersley survives (wounded, of course) that explores the class differences between the two as well as Wickersley rather awkward position in society.
- If Wickersley survives, what sort of reception does he receive? This could even lead to manly touching in a semi-public space.
The Wren Hunt Series by Mary Watson
This was a delightful, ridiculous romp. This is one of those series that has a lot of elements & tropes I like, so hard to be totally objective. It combines some of my favourite things - mythology, dark feuds, rural fantasy, insular communities, ancient rituals and outsider POVs. It was grounded by the low-key nature of the magic and yet things were high stakes for the people involved. I was actually pretty intrigued by the different types of magic systems used by the augurs and the judges. Magic doesn’t really solve all problems here; instead money and power acquired is just, if not more, useful to the characters. It had a powerful beginning and perhaps things had to slow down, but it took a while before the plot built itself up again. I would love any fic to explore the above and delve deeper into the blood, tragedy and hope that drove the series.
Maeve Lawless & Sibéal Lawless
- Every time a new horror, a new low, a new betrayal was revealed during Wickerlight, I was clutching my heart. Show me more! A scene between Maeve and Sibéal plotting new deathly deeds, digging the knife deeper.
- Sibéal learning she has a pay a high, high price for her magic.
- Sibéal betrays her mother.
Knives Out
This was a glorious ensemble piece. The set design was beautiful (dark woods, rich fabrics, unique ornaments set against a stereotypical New England autumn) and the costume design rich and vivid, except for poor Marta. It was all so wonderfully dramatic, like the best sort of family murder mysteries where everyone has a motive to kill.
Benoit Blanc/Marta Cabrera/Ransom Drysdale
- Benoit and Marta have Ransom of a very tight leash (literal or metaphorical).
- Ransom tries to seduce both Marta and Benoit during the investigation, not knowing they know his actions... because they're already fucking.
Marta Cabrera/Ransom Drysdale
- Conjugal visits! And Ransom should feel degraded (he's never fucked on sheets below 1000 thread count) but he fucking loves being degraded, actually.
- A term of the will is that Marta must marry one of Harlan Thrombey's descendants.
Page & Sommers - Cat Sebastian
I loved the cosy, murder mystery vibes of Hither, Page. The adherence and subverting of Golden Age of Mystery tropes.
Cora Delacourt/Edith Pickering
- How did they first meet? In the dying age of Victorian times, perhaps when they were school girls sneaking away from uptight French governesses??
- Their first kiss as they escape a speeding train and inconvenient body?
- Edwardian spy capers, bloody adventures across the globe, dinner parties ending up in murder and perhaps they have to confuse an obnoxious private detective or meddling Scotland Yard (please feel free to have allusions to various Golden Age of Mystery stories!).
- How did they retire? Did they get up to anything during WW2?
Cora Delacourt/Edith Pickering & Wendy Smythe
- I would also love to see a story about how they raised Wendy during the war. Perhaps they stealth!trained Wendy on their skills and abilities? And then she ended up surprising them?
Original Works
Disciplined Man-at-Arms/Charming Idiot Conscript Who Drives Him to Distraction
- I look forward to all sorts of himbo antics!
- Conscript works out and man-at-arms is very distracted.
Governess in Gothic Mansion/Female Ghost
- Dark shadows, narrow corridors, hidden doors, sweeping staircases - love when the house is part of any gothic story!
- Both the ghost and the governess have dark secrets. Only one can kill to keep their secrets hidden.
Ne'er-do-well Who’s Secretly a Deadly Assassin/Older Male General Who Disparages His Lifestyle
- Ne'er-do-well makes a disgrace of himself at a party (fake!drunk) and the general is forced to take him home in his carriage.
- Ne'er-do-well and the general are at a house party, while the Ne'er-do-well is trying to assassinate someone (classic murder mystery tropes very much welcome) he keeps on getting interrupted by the general. General thinks he's slutting around, the house party think Ne'er-do-well and the general are secretly lovers.
Newly Demon Possessed Catholic Priest/Female Parishioner with a Long-standing Crush
- Slow, tortuous seduction. But the demon didn't count of the parishioner being quite as kinky.
- A dark, twisted confession with the demon pressing all her buttons (and secrets bubbling out).
Sensible Royal Guardswoman/Arrogant But Skilled Court Sorceress
- Court Sorceress makes a promise that pushes her to the limits of her powers (but she's not going to back down!!) and the royal guardswoman is forced to find an alternate way for impossible magical act (or she comforts her afterwards).
- Royal guardswoman is off to war and the Court Sorceress just casually enchants her sword to be epically powerful. But she doesn't have feelings or anything like that!!
