Washington event
Jun. 6th, 2007 03:04 pmSave Thursday, June 7, for the opening of Michael Collier's aerial photographs, "Stones from the Sky: Landscapes in Geology," which the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is co-sponsoring with the American Geological Institute (AGI).
At 6 pm there will be a 20-minute slide presentation in the AAAS auditorium, followed by a reception in the first floor atrium. Everyone is welcome and bring your friends.
Michael Collier, a physician and geologist, practices family medicine in a clinic in Flagstaff, Arizona. On alternate weeks he flies his single-engine Cessna 180 to remote regions of the Americas to capture breath-taking aerial snapshots of mountain ranges, coastlines, volcanoes, and glaciers. He has received many awards for the public understanding of geology [this sentence is beyond my editing capabilities].
Michael's latest large-format book, Over the Mountains, An Aerial View of Geology (Mikaya Press), will be on sale. It would be a great gift for a recent graduate, or to save to give in the holidays.
[Edit:I'll be there; let me know if you'd like to meet up. Migraine has other ideas for the day.]
