Correction on the Keb' Mo' lyrics: "Well, there's more than one way home. Ain't no right way; ain't no wrong. And whatever road you might be on, you'll find your own way, 'cause there's more than one way home." I left the most important part out. Sigh.

And [livejournal.com profile] purejuice's comment in my previous entry reminded me of this restaurant, which was about three blocks down the street from my hotel in Nice, France.

I used to take great consolation from the Keb Mo' song with the refrain "and if nobody loves you, and you're feeling like dust on an empty shelf, just remember: you can love yourself." It's a bittersweet little tune.

I love that song! Actually I love the whole album, but I often find myself singing that song when I'm feeling melancholy.

oh hilarious. i've been reading the french blogs lately, and tex mex or just mex is two of the things expats miss the most in france. the french do not like "spicy" food, oddly enough. (somehow i figure eating all that offal and reptile meats would soften them up for jalapeno, but no.) aaaaaaaaaaanyway, the frenchies' idea of mexican, what they serve in their mex restaurants, is hilarious and heartbreaking to those jonesing for it. salsa consists of like two edges of tomato in a dentist's lavoris cup, and tortillas are not well understood either. hilarious. the cheese melted on top of things is something weird as well -- not roquefort, but something that really has nothing to do with mexican food.
did you eat there? did you get wedgies in a lavoris cup?

Oh my goodness. No, I didn't eat there, and I'm glad I probably didn't miss anything. LA, NYC, and DC can't get Tex-Mex right; I figured Nice would be worse. I guess most cities are too sophisticated to properly fix street food antojitos.

Next time I go to a lousy French place here in the U.S., I'll think of your description of Tex-Mex-French restaurants and feel better.
