Photo entries are so much easier than written ones. My mood lately has been low, and I struggle with feeling totally useless. Not at work, which is typically steady, but at home, where chores have piled up like the little hills of cat hair that collect at the corners of my rooms. I've been traveling the past two weekends, which means I start the work week tired and never recover. This morning I woke up with a scratchy throat and congestion, but the stay home was also for mental health reasons. I slept most of the day, and the cold symptoms have abated somewhat. I think I'll sew for a couple of hours, then see about tackling chores.

One positive thing to come out of my procrastination has been some good cooking experiments. I picked blackberries in my backyard and at the park near my house and made a decent berry crisp (didn't have milk to do a proper cobbler). I made eggplant with garlic sauce that tasted very much like the dish served by my favorite local Chinese restaurant. And I made an almost-healthy dessert by mixing whole-wheat couscous with butter, brown sugar, and chopped walnuts.

I know how you feel - I hope you feel better.

I need a mental health day...soon!

Yay for cooking experiments! They always make me feel better.

From your last entry, today might be a good choice for that mental health day.

It's hard to tell whether my mood has improved, but at least I feel more energetic. Despite sleeping all day yesterday, I slept through the night with no problems.

One summer I got the nicest, plumpest blackberries from the parking lot at the Landover metro. Those were the best wild blackberries I've had up here, probably because they were undisturbed. The ones in the park disappear as soon as they turn dark. (I know, I know, I'm part of the problem, but I don't want to miss out while waiting.)

I agree about the photo posts being easier. I have one brewing right now of my trip to NC.

Many of the bushes were overgrown with Japanese honeysuckle and other vines. Underneath them, the berries were undisturbed. Hope the birds haven't eaten all the berries I exposed in the hopes of helping them ripen.

A woman asked me what I was doing in the bushes, and I actually hesitated before answering. I'm terrible about sharing.

At least I feel caught up on sleep. I couldn't break myself of the cycle of being exhausted and doing nothing, then feeling bad because nothing was accomplished, and then feeling bad leading to feeling exhausted.

Chasing your tail like that is wearying.
