Jan. 31st, 2007 10:44 pmI join other LJ friends in mourning the death of Molly Ivins. I think she is the epitome of a Texas lady. I wish I had a tenth of her wit. When I get to work tomorrow I'll post an excerpt from one of her columns.
My car is getting old, going on 13. Tonight I drove about two miles to a nearby Metro station, and the car made a horrible clunking sound with every turn of the steering wheel. No noise when going straight, but the steering wheel shimmied a lot. I was worried about making it back to my house after dinner, but I had no problems or noises coming home. I guess the car's at the age where it should be driven every couple of days. How unfortunate; one of the things I love about my neighborhood is that I don't need a car. I usually save my driving for the weekends.
[Edited to add] After I posted the entry about traveling, I debated adding a comment that my aunt who has lung cancer is not and never has been a smoker. Whether she smokes or not shouldn't matter; cancer is cancer, and it's an awful disease, period. But (in part because of a thread over in
oblomova's LJ), I think some people feel differently about a lung cancer patient if she's been a lifelong smoker. My grandparents (I only had one set- my father's parents died when I was young) died from lung cancer as a result of being smokers, so I find it difficult to think that smokers somehow deserve to suffer.
