Sep. 26th, 2007 09:19 pmA woman with a fig tree tells the Washington Post that figs don't ripen after they're taken off the tree. Unfortunately the article doesn't bother to mention the species or common name of the tree, so I don't know whether it's that particular variety that doesn't ripen after picking or whether I'm merely letting my figs partially rot before I eat them. Amazing how such a long article can contain so little useful information.
Not that I'm going to change my criteria for fresh figs: I like them very mushy and very sweet. Whether that's achieved through ethylene exposure or microbial decomposition only changes the terminology (ripe vs. rot).
I think I'm getting a migraine on top of the sinus pain I already had. Too bad. I had a lot of things I wanted to post about. The Dale Watson show (which
well_artesia helpfully abbreviated to DWS) guy burned six CDs of music for me a couple of weeks ago, and I've slowly been working my way through them. The first three were great; the next two, good to very good. I'm looking forward to the last one.
