SECONDS

Mar. 5th, 2024 10:21 am
Second characters will not be on teams and will not be based in the Library. They will have opportunities to interact and visit with the crew at the library but they basically live elsewhere.

Second characters are going to be in a place where combat is more necessary and resources are more scarce. If they die they are dead For Real outside of any canon abilities.

The same powercap applies to them.

Also they don't have to be COMPETENT OR STRONG but it is just worth saying character who have fewer skills will suffer more just because of the setting. If you're down to clown that's A-OK.

This is a plot relevant role please keep that in mind when you apply for seconds! There are two steps to applying for seconds -- first apply for approval and second submit a character app!

If the mods reject your app for seconds there is no obligation to tell you why, please do not ask.

AC for seconds is the same as it is for firsts. Also while it won't be increased for your first character your AC for your first will be under higher scrutiny. The crew AT the Library is important and we would prefer to center the bulk of play with the characters on teams for now.

The cast character cap for firsts does NOT apply to seconds, but remember that your first character should be your first play priority. And if your first character's activity drops we will probably speak to you.

Also, you are allowed to play from the same canon for your first and second. We do ask that you not play characters with super close in-canon CR but at the end of the day it's up to you to make that call.

SECONDS

Hello!

HERE IS THE PROPOSAL FOR SECONDS:
+ Seconds will be allowed if people pass the 'Kaz approves your AC is high enough for seconds' and this has to do with general presence in Overdue as well as comment count etc. I'll also be adding my input obviously. The requirements for this will be high. Cast caps will still apply.
+ Seconds will NOT be on teams and in fact will not be in the Library! There will be interactive moments with the Library crew and also missives will be allowed, of course. So know that there will be limited face-to-face interaction with other player characters at this time! This will change with Plot (TM).
+ You have to apply for approval for a second and also then write an app. This app will be more in detail than the normal app
+ And the extra caveat is if we reject your application for a second at either stage, please do not ask for reasons why.

PLEASE COMMENT WITH YOUR THOUGHTS ON SECONDS, THANK U.

When you open the book you're transported to this. There is a small strip of lawn (20ft x 7ft) and then a wall that stretches from the ground to the skybox. You can't see it but any attempt to climb the wall will result in just hitting an invisible ceiling.

General guidelines: You can decorate however you want. Cosmetic yolo. Panda shaped bed, sure. Upside down sink, I guess. But no additional functionality, whether magical or electrical or otherwise, can be designed into the homes outside of what is listed below. Decorations, yes. Function, no.

You cannot cannibalize these things for ingredients/etc. So you can get a metal desk or a very large bed but if you try to take them apart and use them for other things they will simply fall apart to dust and you'll have nothing.

For some of the things listed below like 'ice box' don't have to be the same ones linked. You could have a lemon patterned ice box or like, 'shaped like Guy Fieri' for all I care.

You can have as many furniture items as you want but don't go too crazy like. A bedside table, a bed, a desk, a few chairs is fine. Like 3 tables, 4 beds and 16 chairs, too much. Beds come with 1 set of nice sheets, 1 blanket, 2 pillows with pillow cases.

Dressers or wardrobes or whatever will be empty but every bedroom will have 1 pair of pajamas sized perfectly to your character in some kind of basic design (can be panties/pants/top/bralet but must be plain). There will also be 1 towel per person but it's basic $10 towel level.

EXTERIOR
In general the weather is going to be 65F/18C, partially sunny with an occasional breeze.

Lawn
Can be customized in the following ways, all are optional. If the 'lawn' is not customized it will be just a rectangle of hard red clay.

  • grass/ground cover plants (one type of ground cover, you can't have like 57 different kinds)

  • 1 water feature (bird bath, fountain, pond - will be freshwater and WILL accrue algae but will also self-replenish water)

  • a yard sign

  • a door mat

  • holes!?!? you can dig down 5.7903671 feet until you hit an impenetrable layer of dirt

Wall
Can be customized in the following ways, all are optional. If the 'wall' is not customized it will be white stucco.

  • material - brick, stone, wood, etc

  • windows - any number of them, if you want an entire wall of windows weird but go off king

Door
What kind of door your house has. You can include what color, if it locks or isn't, etc.

INTERIOR
You can divide up the floors however you want. Do you want one floor to be one room? Go for it. Do you want the main floor to be a labyrinth? Sure. Do you want fireman's poles? Whatever.

The foundation is sturdy rock and the plumbing/electric are all up to code and nice. You can destroy walls or add walls using resources from the books but if you fuck it up that's your fuck up.

Lighting/Electricity
Houses can be designed with electricity, however there can be a maximum of 1 light per room (lamp OR ceiling light) and 1 electric socket per room.
These electrical gadgets/appliances are allowed to be designed into the homes at start, no more than 1 per house and need to be plugged in to work:

  • Radio - it only plays classical music

  • Small handheld vacuum cleaner

  • Coffee machine - basic, like the $15 from Target kind

  • Hair dryer

  • Space heater

  • CD Playing Boombox - has no CDs

  • Electric kitchen knife

Basement
An optional floor. Basements by default will be cool and dry. You cannot have windows in the basement. You are allowed to have bedrooms or bathrooms or kitchens down here.

Main Floor
This is the floor that the front door opens to. It can have windows. All windows point to the front yard, don't worry about it. Similarly there can be patios that open up and they also open to the front yard. Physics is weird inside a book.

Second Floor
There are no elevators or teleporters allowed but ramps, stairs, dumbwaiters, pulleys, those are all fair game between the two floors. It can have windows, even on sides where there shouldn't be. All windows point to the front yard, don't worry about it. There can be Juliet balconies but nothing bigger and yes, they also open up over the yard.

Attic
An optional floor. It can have one window and must be 'smaller' than the second floor. Don't think about the logic so much but it will just feel smaller. It cannot have a balcony or anything.

Kitchens
You can place this anywhere and customize how you want. You can only have ONE kitchen and you do not need to have a kitchen. There are a few limitations:

  • Stoves can be an open fire pit or rustic wood burning

  • There is no refrigerator, there can be a ice box that always has large ice keeping it cold or a hole in ice. The hole in ice is about 2ftx2ft and is full of frigid water. Do not swim you will die.

  • One large sink

  • One dining room table with six chairs OR a high counter with barstools

Bathrooms
There can be a maximum of THREE bathrooms. This means a maximum of THREE toilets (toilet OR urinal you can't have both in the same room), THREE showers and THREE baths. No you cannot have like 12 urinals in one bathroom. There is not a size limitation on the bath but please be reasonable, we are not a spa, we're a house. Each bathroom can have ONE sink.

All bathrooms start with 1 bar of body soap, 1 bar of shampoo, 1 tube of toothpaste, 1 toothbrush per teammate. Toilet paper is magical and will never run out unless you abuse it and idk how you would abuse it but don't do this to yourselves.

Laundry
There are NO laundry machines or dryers. It is optional to set up a designated laundry space. Regardless of if it has a dedicated space or not here are the possibilities to have:

  • Some kind of washtub. (Examples: 1, 2 etc)

  • Clothes drying line OR drying racks

  • Washboards or handcrank washer
Hiatuses/Drops have three options:
1. Your character is kidnapped by an NPC to make paper/ink/some other thing used in book binding (benign option).
2. Your character is eaten by the Darkness(TM) (psychological torment option)
3. Your character falls into an untitled book. Untitled books cannot be opened and it will be known ICly that part of fighting the darkness is to help open untitled books.

HIATUSES
You may hiatus for ONE AC period. We aren't going to keep track of how many hiatuses you do in a year or anything but if you start hiatusing a lot we may suggest you drop the game until life has calmed down enough.

Apps are currently open.

What characters can be apped?
  • Canon characters and OCs both welcome. AUs, PGAU, blank slate protagonists, or canon OCs will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • If there is existing cast please be sure they're cool with it when apping a castmate. If you know the player well it's fine to surprise them but if you don't know them well you should probably ask.
  • Doubles are permitted with permission from the other player. Definitely ask.
  • Generally speaking please be considerate of how your app choice may impact other players.

How many characters from the same canon can be in the game at one time?
  • Currently the cast cap is 6.
  • PGAU characters who share the same past game will also be considered part of a 'cast' for that game. PG cast cap is likewise 6.

BY Default players can only have one character in Overdue at a time. Please see our policy on seconds.

Send your app to and.fight.god@gmail.com with the header APP | CHARACTER NAME.

The Reading Stage:
A podium stands in the middle of a curved stage flanked by bookshelves. Whenever games or events occur a book will float itself off the shelf to the podium where it will open and pull people inside. Anything can be inside of a book. . . even entire worlds.

To the left side there is a glass bookshelf that is locked that has books without titles on them. These books are where the unfinished book drops go. It cannot be opened or damaged.

To the right side is the story books that allow you to re-experience memories in them. Fun.

This is where games and events are held.

[ Games/Events Calendar | Past Game Records ]

The Sauna/Bath House
The right side of the library has been fenced off by high dark green slats. There is a swinging door that never locks that separates this area from the rest of the library. Inside there is a freestanding sauna room and a few small public baths. There is also a shack that has a padlock on it that looks very out of place. The water is always fresh and clean and there's a little rustic looking dial for every bath to adjust temperature.

The sauna is maintained by Aatos the sauna gnome and his noble steed the winged capybara you can speak with him or leave him offerings. If you don't leave him enough offerings his capybara will try to eat your hair and he will burn down the sauna. He is fickle and may not always come when called.

The Garden
In the middle of the library is a garden. Sunbeams come down from the 'ceiling' giving it a real FFVII Church in the Slums vibe. The soil is fertile and then sun is always the perfect temperature.

Currently planted in the garden is: 4 tomato plants (little current sized tomatoes for two of them and two big stereotypical heirloom tomatoes for the other two), 2 coca trees (the look like minecraft trees but the cocoa pods are normal), 1 apple tree (cosmic crisp, the apples actually are a dark violet and look speckles with stars, it's fine, don't worry about it), and 1 banana bush (looks like a rose bush but grows banana bunches).

There is a placard in front of the garden that says "think of a memory and grow as a person."

These plants CAN be killed and need to be tended but can also be encouraged to grow by standing in front of the placard and showing someone else a memory. It will play on the placard like a movie, and while no internal thoughts there will be subtitles with things like [ emotional music swells ] and [ internal screaming ]. They will grow at the same pace as the plants in the books.

Community Wins Door
There is a plain looking door to the right of the stage that looks like it's made out of ink. This door has several books drawn on it as well as the words "Natural Sciences & Languages Club ONLY". Only those two teams can open the door.

The books have titles scrawled on the spines: "Silk City Homecoming", "Peepin' Poppin'"

Inside the room is a mix of the two resources: all manners of silk fabric and silk thread, every kind of nice high quality marshmallow flavor but it is in the shape of a little bird.

Far Left Bookshelves:
The living quarters shelves. They are mostly empty except for the single book in the team color with Hearth and Harpm on the cover. When this book is opened whoever opens it is transported into the team house book onto the front 'lawn'. Whether or not the team home door is locked is up to the team. There is a floating book opposite the front door that says 'LIBRARY AT THE END OF THE WORLD' on it that characters can use to exit the team books and end up back in the library.

Center Bookshelves: Comforts & Humors
Right Bookshelves: Food
These books can only be 'activated' by taking them back to the team bookshelf. When these books are placed on a team book shelf they create an additional door/room inside the team house. There may only be six books (including the team house book) on a team book shelf. So the team house book as well as up to four of the books below and one of the Special Books that were added during this event.

(So it's 1 team house book + 1 special book + 4 books from the lists below.)

Only teammates can remove or place books on their team shelves. If a sixth book is brought over to the shelf, the oldest book not the team house will automatically return to its original book shelf and the room/door within the team house will disappear. If someone was in the room they will be dumped out back into the library on their ass.

Anything you make with the book can be kept; otherwise, when the book is returned, so are the supplies. If you make a pillow with thread and feathers from one room and put the pillow in your room it will stay. Cans/jars/bottles that have things in them will also stay. However if you put a bunch of loose thread in your room it will NOT stay when the book is returned. So if you jar tomatoes or dry and grind spices down to powder those will remain, but the fresh spices and tomatoes will disappear.

WEAPONS and TOOLS will only stay in your possession as long as the book is in your team's possession. Yes, even if you make your sword into a cane-sword, sorry.

Pastures/fields/etc can be cultivated and kept as long as the books are in the possession of one team. However, as soon as the book is returned, these will 'reset' back to their default.

All crops/perishable resources/etc yield about enough food for 30 people a week comfortably. So, at the baseline the cows produce about a cumulative 35 gallons a week if properly milked and so forth. All crops take an IC week to 'get started' and then 7 IC days after planting can be harvested. Already growing crops will again yield about 30 people's worth of food per week. This isn't a hard line but more to encourage trader/cooperative gardening/creative use of resources and maintain a 'work for something' rather than 'excess and ease of food'. It takes about an IC month to successfully breed an animal to be ready for slaughter/maturity. While animals are inside their designated book rooms/pastures/etc they will not need food or anything but if you take them out into your team houses they will need food and leave messes places.

If a book is opened instead of put on the bookshelf, the text found within reads 'PUT ME ON SHELF TO ACCESS GOODS' or 'PUT ME ON SHELF TO ACCESS GOODIES' or if you're unlucky it might say 'PUT THE BOOK ON THE SHELF TO USE IT YOU IDIOT' and then in small text underneath 'this is a resource that is now accessible through Hearth and Harpm please use accordingly.'

CENTER: COMFORT & HUMORS

  • Autumn Colors
This book creates a room in the team house that has all kinds of dry autumn leaves in it. All colors. Crunchy and perfect for a leaf pile. There are also curls of wood shavings, small twigs and wood pellets.

    • Boats & Birds
A little lake surrounded by cattails and other foliage (cannot be removed or eaten but they look nice). There's some bird shaped paddle boats, some love-swan boats and all sorts of silly little hang out on the slow moving lake boats. There's some lockers with cute sun clothes (dresses, overalls, sunhats, fishing waders, etc) everything you'd need for dressing up for fishing. These clothes can only be worn in this book but there's also a photo booth with a big fake fish that will dispense polaroids (that can be taken with you).

There ARE fish in the lake and there are fishing rods but it's video game logic where you toss the hook in (no bait needed) and then have to do a tug and reel more like it's a video game than real life. There's a little wooden dock to sit on and enjoy the lake. It's always sunrise or sunset or the lazy afternoon sun like the perfect fishing day in a movie. The fish CAN be eaten but when you successfully catch one they turn into like a little block of fish, like that you'd buy from the store. You can only catch like 3 enough edible fish for small fish a day so it's like 3 servings of fish and any fish you catch after they just disappear. Video game logic.

    • Chip the Glasses, Crack the Plates
This room leads to a pantry with a bunch of shelves. The shelves contain dishes, glasses, and cooking pots. No silverware or tools to make food. Just the items to put the food in. Someone has scrawled onto one shelf 'Opa! Break a plate for good luck.' These items can only be used in the kitchen/dining spaces. If they are used outside of these areas, they go poof and return back to the pantry.

If you managed to actually break all the dishware, in the very back of the pantry is a large kiln. Sand, silt, clay and other similar materials are put in piles within the room. The kiln has a thermometer to be able to change it to different temperatures for different results.

    • Deep Sea Splendor
This book creates a room with what looks like a puddle, however the puddle is actually just a surfacing hole to an underwater cave. It's about twenty feet deep and filled with sea sponges and oysters that have pearls. The oysters are also edible and somehow the water is not salty don't worry about it.

    • Do or Dye
This book creates a door to a room that is a small closet with some powdered dyes. These are food safe and only in the team colors. You can't mix them. They do dye beautifully, however.

    • endless entertainment
Movies games books music 90s, but no televisions or gaming systems but there are some comic books and a single VHS player. When walking into the room it looks a bit like an old Blockbuster, poorly organized but well stocked.

    • Guide on Bedazzling, Cheap Jewelry on a Budget, A
This book creates a room in the team house that has a variety of cheap jewelry items — plastic 'gold' chains, rhinestones, glitter and gluesticks.

    • How To Be A Cool Wizard (Without Reading Anything or Making A Deal With Devils)
A Holodeck game room. Fully VR, fully customizable, you can go anywhere! Be anything!! But only within the confines of the room. (The Library is not liable for any damages to self that may occur within the Holodeck)

Places you can go MUST be form your character's memory so they like can input it into the system but once it's in there it can be in there for anyone to see. If this book gets 'checked in' then the memory bank basically wipes so there's nothing again.

    • Hugs and Health
Medical supplies, including painkillers, bandages, topical disinfectant, where appropriate supplies for certain medicinal magic potions (legs) and blood for ""transfusions"" (vampire snacc).

There are more weird things than normal so the ratio of bandages to leg potions is like 1:4 for some reason.

    • Knot Another Joke
This book creates a room in the team home that has a variety of rolls of linen. There are also numerous skeins of (undyed) wool yarn.

    • Man Who Loved Cleanliness, The
This book creates a room full of plastic bins filled with lye and various oils.

    • Meticulous Man, The
This book creates a room in the team house that has toenail clippers and also fingernail clippers. They are all very sharp and sterile. These are tools.

    • Needles, Needs and Kneads
This book creates a room in the team home that has sewing needles, push pins and dough scrapers. These are tools.

    • Open for a Surprise
This book creates a bookshelf inside the team home that is full of self-help books and therapy 101 wikihow style pamphlets. This is considered 'tools'.

    • Silk & Sewn: How to Start Your Own Business
This book creates a room in the team home that has cotton bolls, feather down and silk threads.

    • SNIP. SNIP. SNIP.
This book creates a room that just has a lot of different scissors. Shears to miniature scissors. These are tools.

    • Sword and the Stoner, The
This book creates a room in the team home that has swords. Also weed. The swords are tools and range from short sword to giganto sword. Should not be able to classify the shortest sword as a knife though, needs to be unwieldy.

    • Ties the Bind, The
This book creates a door to a room that has shelves filled with zip ties and painters tape.

RIGHT: FOOD

  • Every Green Under the Sun
This book creates a door that opens to a field of parsley. The parsley is green and yellow and orange but it's all just kinds of parsley.

  • Hey Diddle, Diddle
This book creates a door in the team home that opens to a small pasture. In this pasture are 2 cows, 1 sheep and a goat. We are playing by minecraft rules so you feed them and can get milk or wool. If you kill them i guess. ping aj.

  • How the Pumpkin Spice Latte Changed Society
This book creates a room in the team home that is full of cinnamon bark (dry), cloves (whole, dry), nutmeg (whole, dry) and ginger root (fresh bc that's how it is at the store). There are also kegs of white granulated sugar. Also three varieties of incredibly mid instant coffee - light roast, medium roast and dark roast.

  • I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts
This book creates a door that leads to a very small strip of sand that has a few coconut trees on it.

  • Jack and the Beanstock: A Guide on Foraging
This book creates a door in the team home that opens to a small meadow with trees where wild edible mushrooms, wild strawberries, wild green beans and wild alliums can be found.

  • LUFFA: A Miracle Plant
This book creates a door in the team house that opens to a small grassy area framed by trellises covered in luffa vines.

  • Lumbering Forward, Antiquated Fuel
This book creates a door to a wooded forest. It's allll oak trees, even though the wood is slightly reddish in color it's still oak. Don't worry about it. This wood is fairly brittle, so it isn't good for building things but it is good for burning as it only takes ~5hrs to dry out to perfect firewood consistency after being cut.

  • My Aunt's Kitchen
This book creates a door that leads to a cool dry shed that has a variety of clay pots in it. In these pots are soy sauce, fermented shrimp, white vinegar, black vinegar, gochugaru and shaoxing wine.

  • Panela: Worth It?
This book creates a door that leads to a field of sugarcane.

  • Returning to Our Roots
This book leads to a dirt field that has been planted with potatoes, beets, parsnips, carrots, sunchokes and radishes.

  • River Monsters
This book creates a door that leads to a wide very deep river. This river has exactly one thing in it besides water — bluefin tuna. Yes, it's a very deep, very fast current. Good luck. If you drown here you will get kicked out to the library proper just barely alive (hope someone knows CPR). Also this water IS salt water/ocean water.

  • Running Afowl of the Law
This book creates a room in the team home that is a chicken coop with six hens. There is also one very mean goose.

  • SALT
This book creates a door in the team home that opens to this set up for salt. Comes complete with the necessary tools like rakes and buckets. Be prepared to work for it.

  • Sea-Worthy Citrus
This book leads to a field full of orange trees.

  • Sqwak!
This book leads to a field full of kiwi fruit trees.

  • Superfoods ROCK
This book creates a door that leads to a field of kale. Both dinosaur kale, red kale and lacinto kale.

  • Vary Berry Marry
This book creates a door that opens to a field of blackberry bushes. Also there are seven music boxes that only play 'here comes the bride.'

Whisker & Paw
Set up on the Check Out Desk is a sign that says Whisker & Paw. There is a line of fairy lights that circle a few feet out from the desk all the way around the wall. This is just marking off the cat cafe zone.

There are several cats that live here, they all have simple black collars with white nametags in the shapes of hearts —
+ Mr. Scratch - an entirely white cat with yellow eyes. He looks a little rough, the kind of cat that might offer you a beer and a cigar. He is very cranky and can only be coaxed into good behaviour with treat and brushes.
+ Purrscilla, Queen of the Dessert - an overly affectionate huuuuuge black and cream colored maine coon. She wants snacc. Snack. Snack. She WILL crawl all over you for snack. She will headbutt you, dig into your pockets, she is a KIBBLE ADDICT.
+ Jinks - this cat is wiry and small and has blue fur. She is very scared and will hide around a lot and can't be coaxed with food or brushes or anything only patience and love. Her eyes are a lovely green.
+ Twin cats Fade and Joyd, they are grey in color with one blue eye and one yellow eye. They're mischievous kitties that are prone to nipping but not hard biting at least. They fight each other sometimes though. Very alarming screaming and hissing.
+ Also there is a hedgehog the size of a watermelon. It looks like a normal hedgehog despite being large and has a collar that reads 'CAT'.

There is a sign with rules:
1. 2 drinks and 2 snacks per day per person
2. be kind to the kitties
3. no violence of any kind allowed
4. do not steal the furniture

On the counter there is a Nespresso-esque machine and reusable mugs, a small sink and a miniature vending machine. The Nespresso-esque machine has any coffee shop flavor pod you can just put in and it will come out nice like you've ordered it at a cafe. You are limited to 2 a person per day though. There is a little trash can for the pods specifically, and there seems to be a consistent amount of pods/the trash can never overflows. If you try to get more than 2 a day you will get KICKED OUT OF THE CAT CAFE FOR TWO IC DAYS if you keep breaking rules you might eventually get full banned.

The vending machine does not require money and has single serving you can dispense at a time. There are candies, pastries and dried fruits. OR it can dispense a small handful of cat treats. Once again you can only have 2 a day. If you choose to use both on cat treats no one can judge you.

If anyone tries to be violent in the cat cafe, including arguing too much they will get kicked out and be banned for two IC days. Possibly. FOREVER!!1

There's a few small tables and cozy chairs for sitting.

There's cat toys and treats for them, clearly labeled.

There is also a sign with a whole bunch of fine print that basically says that all cats are indestructible, can eat as many treats as they want, cannot leave the cat cafe, they do not need litter boxes or produce waste dont think about it.

Unnamed Bar (It's the Depression, Baby)
A small kiosk/building inside the library that looks like . Inside it looks like this.

A really nice elegant bar with a tree growing inside. It's bigger inside than it looks from the outside.

There is a number of empty bottles behind the bar. There is a bell on the bar top and a little sign: "Ring once and request a drink. Limit 3 per day per person."

If you ring the bell and just ask what you want it will appear in front of you. When you're done drinking it the glass will vanish.

If you misbehave in the bar much like the cat cafe you'll get banned for a period of time.

Leopold D'arc von Petreola
PRONOUNS: she/fae
AGE: 3,789
HEIGHT: 6'6.6"
EYE/HAIR: Black/CRIMSON
PLAYER: Francois Wrenfingler
PRONOUNS: She/Her
SQUICKS: pics of dead bodies, emeto, talk of bone powder

NOTABLE CHARACTER TRAITS: Leopold is a vampire trained by the Uchihas. Due to this unique upbringing she has blue eyes and green blood. She has no spine but instead a corridor of jellyfish that swim up and down her back in a glass channel.

OTHER NOTES: I'm not really interested in playing out monogamy but I am interested in some intense codependent poly-bullshit. It should be noted that Leopold assumes monogamy by default so that might come up. I also am interested in rping out taking care of pets but not interested in dress-up threads.

RULES&FAQ

Nov. 13th, 2023 09:57 am
General Rules

  • Please be nice to each other and also nice to the mods and also nice to the gamerunners. Be clear about your own boundaries and respectful of others'. Giving gamerunners unsolicited crit on their events is not welcome.
  • This is a small invite-only locked game. If you get a referral from another player but do not personally know AJ or Kaz please email and.fight.god at gmail first before apping. We reserve the right to deny an application or remove players from the game at any time without explanation.
  • Don't godmode, powergame, or otherwise steamroll others in general. Value the fun of other players. Treat them like friends and collaborators and not like rivals or opponents.

AC Rules

AC guidelines (monthly):
  • threads with at least two teammates
  • threads with 10+ comments from you
  • threads during different points in the month (not all at the end to make AC)
  • ooc presence and engagement on plurk and/or discord

None of these are hard requirements. For example if you play regularly but don't talk much ooc, that's totally fine. However if you don't talk much ooc and also only thread with one teammate all month and also only have threads that started in the first week of the month, then you may be emailed an AC warning at the end of the month. Barring extenuating circumstances like RL problems, if your activity levels do not improve after receiving a warning, you may be swept any time in the latter half of the following month.

There is no AC turnin. You don't need to count anything. Kaz will take care of everything. Be not afraid.

FAQ

Comment to this post with any questions.

How are characters who have supernatural banes affected by the presence of that bane within resource-gathering books? Is the sunlight in the books real enough for a vampire to need to account for it?
Yes, the book realms are essentially real to your characters. Weaknesses to sunlight, iron, allergies, etc will all apply.

Can I app a character from after their death?
Yes.
Overdue is a panfandom team based roleplaying game that has a three part 'plot' loosely designed. We are currently in the first part of the plot — The Library at the End of the World.

Characters agree to give aid to a mysterious voice, hand or message and in doing so are pulled into the library. At the library they are assigned a team and participate in contests or events (cooperative and competitive) while trying to figure out the mystery of the library as well as defeat the Darkness.

The current world of Overdue is contained within a singular room and then books that act as portals or pocket dimensions containing multitudes. As a game there is an emphasis on CR building and character growth (positive OR negative). While it is not a scarcity or survival game daily life such as cooking, trading, creating clothes or home-making will be a part of it. Other parts of it will be death games, kissing games, exploration events and whatever gamerunners and mods think of for fun.

Overdue has a powercap. All characters can maintain their canon powers (though any magical items needed to activate canon powers do NOT come default with them, these will have to be earned back) as well as innate physical prowess. However, all of these powers will be tuned back to 30% strength, give or take. For every incredibly overpowered character please be aware that they will be docked an extra amount of strength — essentially a narrative limitation is put into place on them. (There is a slot on the app for players to tell the mods about their characters' OPness and a personalized additional flavor text/cap will be given to these characters).

NOT every fight has to be fair or level ground but there should be some amount of fun or wiggle-room for players. Also any power that solves a problem instantly is either a no-no or will fritz badly in the Library. IE: Can create a portal to teleport back home, the portal teleports people two feet instead. In some ways we are expecting players to police themselves but keep in mind that part of Overdue is about overcoming/trying and attempting, not always succeeding.

Death is not permanent but is consequential. Please try to avoid dying as much as is ICly possible. Please know that if your character dies there will be consequences for everyone in the game and it will trigger a plot! So if you're going to die please ping a mod. The exception to this is death within books can be handled however the event/gamerunner has planned.

➸ Taken

ALL characters will receive: a book satchel, a pen and a notebook.

The book satchel can hold more than it looks, but basically only as much as would fit in a 3'x 3' (~92cm x 92cm) cube. The body and straps are color-coded to the owner's team (instead of orange as pictured). It never gets heavier or fatter, just looks perfect and pristine. It cannot be destroyed but it can be etched, gain burns, scratches, etc. It can be embroidered on or drawn on. The satchels by default do not have locks and can be opened by anyone. They can be stitched closed or otherwise locked by player-driven means. Full holes cannot be put in them but anyone can reach into anyone's bag if it is open and pull things out.

The pens are glass but indestructible. They don't look like they're full of ink but no inkwell is needed to write with them. They never run out of ink. The nib is sharp but won't cut the paper in the notebook, however if you used it to stab someone it is a bit like a sharpened pencil. Pens will always return to their owner after three days if misplaced/lost/stolen.

The notebooks have a slot on the inside cover that say 'This book belongs to: ______'. However the character fills this out will be their 'display name' for any chats/etc. Notebooks cannot be destroyed, though pages can be torn out. The first page of the notebook has 'PUBLIC MISSIVES' written on it. This is the game chat more or less. The next page says 'PRIVATE MISSIVES' this is for private messages. All messages/chats are logged so in theory one could go back and read the messages on the pages, each page gets added to the notebook. The notebook also never gets fatter, never runs out of pages. Logs can be destroyed but remember a copy remains in anyone else's public or private missive. All notebooks can only be opened by whoever writes their name in them but if they aren't locked again then anyone can open/read.
