How do I install avidemux on Debian?

Avidemux doesn't appear to be in the standard package repository for Debian. What are my options for installing Avidemux on Debian 12?

Is there a relatively safe package repository that I can use so that my system will automatically detect any software updates?

Well - The starting point here would be the avidemux download page- they have a set of appimages that should work without installation, but for the purposes of the answer, lets assume we're adding the repositories to the system. The download page references a repository on https://www.deb-multimedia.org

As per their instructions you need to get the signing key with

wget https://www.deb-multimedia.org/pool/main/d/deb-multimedia-keyring/deb-multimedia-keyring_2024.9.1_all.deb

sudo dpkg -i deb-multimedia-keyring_2024.9.1_all.deb

Then run apt update apt upgrade

You then need to add the repository

Debian 12 is now oldstable

You need to create a file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dmo.sources and copy and paste the following lines

Types: deb
URIs: https://www.deb-multimedia.org
Suites: bookworm
Components: main non-free
Signed-By: /usr/share/keyrings/deb-multimedia-keyring.pgp
Enabled: yes

Now run apt update you should be able to install avidemux
