randominityThis is a placeholder post for the Flanvention. I have so much to tell you but my brain has exploded. Will return later with a lot of mis-remembered non-details.
Things of note:
Alan Tudyk is phenomenally beautiful in person and very very kind and his hands were very warm and I almost touched his ass.
I mean, the phenomenally beautiful part is the first thing I noticed - that and the fact that I was surprised by how thin he seemed! vandonovan and I introduced ourselves and shook his hand, etc. and then after the pic was taken, the photographer checks to make sure it came out okay, so while we waited, we kind of relaxed our hands a little. This was the part where I almost touched Alan's ass. I tried not to think about it much, lest the top of my head explode. After the photo op I totally got a bonus hand-shake, yay. Then we walked past Sean and Summer on the way out... which was surreal, like we could've been all, "hi, Summer and Sean, 'sup?" except not.
Adam Baldwin is a huge man and has mastered the lunge and did I mention huge? His hands are fucking ginormous. Also very nice. And HUGE!
Adam seems so close in height to me in our pic because he kept lunging forward on one leg so as to not overwhelm all of us poor girls with his immenseness. IMMENSE, the man was IMMENSE. We shook his hand and just, just, his hand ENGULFED ours, like a gaping black hole of WONDERFULNESS. He was also very kind and laid-back and uh-huh, I got a second hand-shake after the photo-op, in the hand of HUGENESS. Then we walked past Morena, who seemed kind of spaced out, which I found funny.
Nathan Fillion is the most charming man on the planet, and also on crack, and hilarious, and also beautiful and omg squeezed us and, and, yes.
Eventually we got into the longest line, which we figured was for Nathan and which we were right about. While we waited in the line for what seemed like forever,vandonovan and I struck up conversations with the people in front of us (one of whom turned out to be queenbitter who I actually knew from popslash! Small world!) We speculated that maybe the line was taking so long because Nathan was having TEA with the people on his photo ops. However - and I'm still not sure why the line was moving slowly - he wasn't, he was just being so incredibly fucking charming that time itself was loathe to pass on by. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not. You know the phrase "that man could charm the pants off of a woman?" My pants, like, tried to leave my body when he turned to me and asked my name. I was like "oh god! no! I need those!" and then I told him my name and all, so, you know. Crisis averted.
Prize for "sweetest photo op" goes to Nathan for squeezingvandonovan and I closer to him and saying, "we call this one 'the thorn between two roses'," and being warm and snuggly. He was squeezing my arm in so close that I kind of ended up crossing it across my body, and I contemplated reaching over far enough to put my hand on his stomach, but the whole head-exploding thing kept me from going too far with that course of action. Did I mention that he's beautiful? Because he is, you know. He's just a stunning sort of can't-help-but-stare beautiful. People were saying that they hadn't thought of buying a photo op with him until they saw him in action, and then they just had to get that extra photo op. The guy's just.... he's something else.
While I and vandonovan and queenbitter and the other ladies we met dazedly sat around after our Nathan photo op, blissing out and retelling our Firefly conversion stories and pimping our fanfic to one another, Nathan went to the bathroom, hahaha, and had to walk past us to get there. So while he's inside, Van says to his handler, "how do I get your job?" and it turns out that his handler is actually Adam's handler, which makes the deal so much sweeter. Anyway, the point of this story is not that Nathan had to pee. The point of the story is that as he's making his way through the fans with the handler, he puts his hand on her back as if to guide her through the crowd. I mean, that's essentially her job and he's all, I'm helping you! And, just, *heart*.
Speaking of Nathan? He almost kissed Adam Baldwin during the "Boys of Serenity" Q&A panel. I mean, they had a real moment, staring at each other. There was definite eyefucking. And then later he petted Adam's arm all flirtily. They write the RPS themselves, people.
Incredibly cool moment when Van asked a question and Nathan - who made sure to address us by name during our photo op - pointed and said, "you're Van!" and remembered the Christmas card Van gave to all three guys. Afterwards, Van had a bit of a "....." moment but I can't imagine how amazing that must have felt.
Basically we spent the entire "Boys of Serenity" panel laughing, because Nathan is on such crack. The man doesn't ever stop talking. I thought Adam was going to die at one point, he was laughing so hard his face was completely red and I was crying tears of laughter. The thing that was great was everybody made everybody laugh at one point; Sean made Nathan laugh his ass off, everything made Ron laugh, and through it all, Nathan was talking, talking, talking. Best. Panel. Ever.
Funny story from the "Boys of Serenity" panel #1:
Nathan made Ron tell this story about a fan he met who was into gospel music. So Run talks about the girl and how she tells him about her love for gospel, and she's all, "you know my favorite part about it is when they kind of moan, to the music." And she looks at Ron and -- man, Ron has the best, lowest voice when he tells this story - according to Ron, she says to him, "....would you like to hear me moan?"
And Nathan just. goes. crazy. He has like, this spastic little orgasm in the corner and we're dying of laugher, and after he recovers in a moment he leans into his mic and is like, "yeah. that was good." or something and you know what? It surely was.
Funny story from the "Boys of Serenity" panel #2:
A woman asked a question about what the guys were like in high school, because her son is in high school right now and I guess (I couldn't hear the question directly, I'm just judging from their responses) she wanted him to know that it's important for his future, and it's okay to be different, and etc. etc. So Nathan, who's acting as emcee to the whole group, makes everybody talk about what they were like in high school.
- Alan was a skater (!!!) who wore enormous sombreros to school just to be different. There was a funny story that went along with this, but I'm too fried to even attempt to tell it now. Besides, he's Alan, so it'd automatically be less funny if I wrote it here anyway.
- Sean admits that he went to school just so that he would be allowed to perform in theater at night. This prompts Nathan to say, "...but NOW you recognize the importance of a high school education, right?" And Sean goes, ".... no, not really." Laughter, tears, good times ensue.
- Ron confessed to having been a bit "different" in school, and grew up in a decidedly non-badass town, but when three 8th graders came to beat him up and he was in the 5th grade, he kicked all their asses out of pure fear.
Nathan: Did you fight dirty?
Ron: No.
Nathan: Oh, I do. ...I'd kick 'em in the nuts.
Ron:.... that's not fighting dirty.
Laughter, tears, good times!
Special moment from the "Boys of Serenity" Panel:
Nathan talking about his favorite moment from the Serenity movie. I know he's talked about this before, but this was the first time I got to see him tell it, so yay. He says, "my favorite scene starts like this: '[gasp] My bag!'"
Sigh. Yeah. One of my favorite moments, too. And then he's recounting it, and he gets to the part where Simon calls River over, and he's like, "and then he apologizes for failing her." SIGH.
The lighter moment came when it was Sean's turn, and he picked the Reaver fight at the end with River, and he compared it to an opera. Nathan goes, "you mean a ballet," and Sean says, "no, I mean an opera. Ballet doesn't move me like the opera." *HEART*
"Girls of Serenity" panel started off slow, owing to none of the girls being Nathan Fillion, although Jewel was quite funny. Morena was funny as well, and I don't know if Summer Glau was not feeling her best or if she's just a quiet, shy sort, but she hardly said anything... to the point of not even always finishing answering the questions she was answering. Heh. Morena had a fabulous dream about making out with Sean Maher that she shared with us, and really, who can blame anyone for dreaming about making out with Sean Maher?
This is what a con with Nathan Fillion is like: at one point in the "Girls of Serenity" panel, one of the back doors BANGS open, and Nathan stumbles in and falls down. Gets back up, panting, looks around frantically, all dishevelled, and stumbles back out the door. ...Yeah.
This is what a con with Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk is like: after the whole cast sits down for the cast commentary, Nathan makes a pretend announcement about a car with a "WASH" license plate. Alan gets up all of a sudden, looking all concerned, whispering to Morena like he's a dinner guest or something, and then he LEAVES. Just LEAVES, goes out the back door and is gone. And he doesn't come back. And Nathan starts bullshitting, making up this ridiculous story about how he and Alan accidentally killed a kid and had to drive to Tijiuana and Alan hooked up with an old chick - and he's totally checking the back door waiting for Alan to come back.... and Alan DOESN'T, until a little bit later.
"And the joke's on you, Nathan, 'cause my lights weren't on," he says.
