Well, last night after some heavily medicated sleep, I decided to take it upon myself to back up all my essentials, reformat my HD, and re-install Tiger, then try out this Virtual Machine thing and see if I could get Guild Wars cranking.
Fortunately all the formatting/file copying/installing took long enough to allow me to do about 8 loads of laundry, so hey! two birds with one stone!. By the time all was said and done, I had a window on my screen running Guild Wars. It WORKED.
Well, sort of. Everything looked mostly okay, except, randomly, my characters' armor:

WTF?
Now, don't get me wrong - although I paid good money (far too much in some cases, NANASHI and NERIAH) to have armor that looks good, I was so happy to be able to play Guild Wars without rebooting that I was pretty much prepared to go with this. After all, it was only the beta copy of the software. It promised to get better! But it was also kind of jerky and slow and I wasn't sure that actually playing would be feasible.
So I heard that the new Parallels was coming out with a 3D gaming version, and set about downloading that. It just came out, but I haven't been able to find reviews of GWs performance, so I haven't gotten around to trying yet.
THEN, I heard that CrossOver had just released a new version that worked with Guild Wars. Since I had tried the previous version and been thwarted, I was terribly excited. Especially because UNLIKE with VMWare or Parallels, I would not have to install Windows at all. So off I went to try that....
And it worked. It really worked! I haven't played using it yet, but it seems okay, and the armor looks like ARMOR. I am aware that there are a few glitches, and I wouldn't be able to get my gorgeous anti-aliased graphics, but. No rebooting >>>>> anti-aliasing (though I'll miss that a lot). Oh, the freedom. I'm drooling just thinking about it now, mmmmm.
