Okay, A) I'm sick. I started to get a sore throat near the end of my work day and now it's just killing me. I knew I couldn't escape the cold bugs forever, especially considering that when I showed up for my choir concert on Saturday, I was the only person in my entire section who wasn't deathly ill. At least my parents are here to take care of/baby me. But bleeaugh.
B) Forced my mom to watch Serenity the Pilot tonight. At least it started as forcing. She balked at the pilot's two-hour length, and swore that there was no way she'd be able to stay up through the whole thing, so I promised her we could stop after the one-hour mark if she was really tired. At first she was drowsy and I had to keep nudging her to make sure she was paying attention (I keep forgetting how important every bit of dialogue is, how little mentions in the first act come into play later on). Then we got to the one-hour mark. Mal stormed into the cargo bay to open up Simon's box, and my mom sat up. "What's he doing?" she wanted to know. "What's that box for?"
"Just watch," I told her, and she watched. And Mal looked down at River. And I paused the DVD.
"Well, that's an hour," I said brightly. "Wanna stop now?"
My mom looked pained. "Keep playing," she muttered.
Victory. And you know what? My mom recognized Nathan Fillion from Two Guys and a Girl! Ha! "I have the whole series on my computer, if you wanna watch," I smarmed. We may have to watch that later. :D
By the end of the pilot, even my dad - who had alternated between loudly protesting that we were interrupting his sleep and loudly snoring while we watched - was watching, asking questions about the plot that he would have known if only he'd been on board from the beginning (he couldn't seem to tell the difference between Simon and Wash. Yeah. I know).
I couldn't persuade them to watch another episode, but I think tomorrow we'll have a date. Mwahahaha.
(and what's more, although I had already shown my parents my photo ops from the Flanvention, and despite the fact that when Mal, Jayne, and Wash first appeared on-screen, I pointed and said, "met him," "met him, too," and "also met him," at the end of the episode my mom was like "and you MET them?" Ahahahaha.)
