Random thoughts - Come at me you guys!

So I had a realization while being silly over on plurk. What does magic smell like?

I tend to assume everything but ghosts have scents. Now I have to know out of a sense of Saturday night curiosity, what do your characters smell like?

If they have special powers like say MAGIC or something that manifests in reality somehow does it have a scent?

Come at me you guys! Information dump!

Not really magic, but the 'cub' probably has some illness scent on her no thanks to her virus.

Ash, probably like a spice rack since her herbal medicines...

Warren like a turkey (Because I'm amused at that idea)

He won't get it at first of course.

I can't speak for everyone, of course, but with Loki's magic combined with his Jötun heritage, I always sort of figured his scent was more ... icy fresh. Like mint. Mint and evil.

There was a snarky retort here. But it was greatly overpowered by the sudden desire for ice cream.

STILES SMELLS LIKE AWESOME.

Seriously I don't know.

Erik smells slightly metallic--that strange buzz on your tongue you get.

Probably mountain ash--he would avoid the wolf's bane most of the time just in deference to Derek since it can actually hurt him. lol.

Best smile. I always like to believe that Stiles's smell is kinda enigmatic? Not easily to pin down, and not what you would expect.

Like him.

I think Lindsey's magic would smell kind of like when a bolt of lightning has just struck. So like electricity with any herbs he used in the spell.

I recall reading someone in Elder Scrolls lore that magic smells like ozone. Other than that, I've always assumed it's odorless. If anything, I think it's Martin who would stink more, since he's dragonborn (soul of a dragon, body of a human)

Fire and scales, I would assume.

It does have a medieval tinge to it, doesn't it?

Dovahkiin here is actually quite priggish about his hygiene since he's Tamriel's equivalent of an Ancient Roman, and the Emperor himself. I've always imagined he smells like pine and parchment, since his nose is always buried in books.

Well, Marty's trying to start a library, so if you have need for these two to meet, that's a good opening!

So does Martin. Filthy uncivilized brutes—I MEAN, YAY, CITIZENS.

Catches-Toads is a reptile...ish creature and therefore doesn't sweat. Otherwise the biggest influence on what he smells like is probably his alchemy, generally various crushed plants and occasionally other weird magic-creature smells. (If he's making a mess carving up dead animals or monsters he's good about getting the blood off afterwards, so those smells tend to not linger as long as the plants.)

Argonians are essentially swamp-dwelling dinosaur people so he certainly doesn't mind dirt and pond algae and god knows what else. Loves it in fact, look at him go in Jurassic Park right now. But there is a difference between GOOD HEALTHY DIRT AND WATER and just being legitimately filthy, and while he's not squeamish about the latter like SOME PEOPLE he does go clean up when he can.

Anders smells like sewer kittens in need of a bath actually I think he smells a bit like elfroot, since he'd be using it a lot, as well as some other herbs that he works with. Otherwise there's possibly a lingering smell of blood because of foreshadowing he doesn't wash his coat enough :||

Otherwise I don't imagine his magic has a specifically strong or lingering scent to it unless he's been using it recently and in reasonably large amounts, but I kind of like the idea of it varying a little depending on the school of magic, so it's not so much 'smells like magic' but 'smells like Creation/Primal/Spirit/Entropy magic'.

Sorin smells of blood and a hint of decay, but there's also something about him that screams danger and predator, and a sharp scent that only comes through occasionally but is a little like the feeling in the air right before a big storm hits.

Even tho she's a ghost, she does have a physical form which I personally think would smell like brine and dead stuff. But not dead fish, that would be absolutely horrible sob.

I headcanon that when Madoka transforms and does magic, it smells faintly of rose petals and leaves.

Probably mildly musty books and yarn, at this point, though I can see Rose using a prissy and ironically-scented perfume when accessible.
