roo2So, I have a friend in RL who is also a Facebook friend. I've known his wife since we were 13 years old, and actually introduced the two of them. The friend, who I shall call Bob, because that's not his name, tends to post political stuff. He's leftist, as am I. His wife's cousin is a rabid right-wing radical. Like, a birther type who believes that Obama is literally the anti-christ. I was unaware of this until recently. Bob was posting on FB about the Clinton email non-scandal, and I replied. Then the troll decided to insult me on FB in response.
While this isn't a huge deal, I recently quit Yahoo Answers and a few other social media sites because I was tired of getting my blood pressure up due to trolls. Facebook, where I have only friended people I know in real life and some internet buddies I've known for decades, was supposed to be a safe place. Having this trogdolyte insult me in what was one of the few places I'd found to be reasonably safe (and yes, I realize the irony of looking at FB as "safe") threw me, especially given that it happened after I'd just gotten out of a hot, relaxing bath.
I did block him and filed a report. I doubt they'll do anything, and he'll probably target me now, since that's how trolls like him behave. I do have to hand it to FB for having some good controls in place so that I hopefully won't even see his harassment since I've blocked him. We'll see. Still, it's annoying. People seem to think that social media is a license to be an asshole to complete strangers.
