[closed] Even The Bogeyman Likes a Good Book (?!)
CHARACTERS: Pitch Black (
sequuntursomnia) and Ib (
dontknowthisword)
DATE: May 14 (Week 12, Day 2)
RATING: PG for the Bogeyman
SUMMARY: Ib meets the Bogeyman...in the bookstore?
It had been the first day the carnival had opened that the Nightmare King had found a little shop called 'The Literate'. He's quite sure it hadn't been there the previous two weeks, because he'd certainly have found a book store in this benighted place. The library was an obnoxious waste of space, save for the relative silence and peace it provided most of the time. He had taken it almost as a personal affront, finding that the language, nay, code, could not be translated. Certainly it had served well to be a time waster, but he wasn't keen on the fact it was entirely fruitless.
The Literate, with its books that could actually be read, was a welcome change. Another hindrance to spending his spare time being not bored senseless was the fact that he'd only been able to take with him a single (albeit somewhat generous) armload of books. The subsequent attempts had resulted, oddly enough, in the books quite literally falling apart.
Odd.
Saving the books he's taken for the time when he's sure this place simply won't be able to be found, Pitch has taken up residence in one of the darker corners of the bookstore, leaned against a shelf and reading a hefty volume on the theoretical applications of magic. (There's no attempt to pass the book off as a work of non-fiction, but it's mildly interesting nonetheless.) There are a few more books beside him that look just a little out of place, pulled from their respective stacks to rest on a shelf by him, and they are also on the subject of magic.
He rather blends in with his surroundings, so even for a believer, it will be somewhat difficult to spot him. Do try not to bump into him, yes?

slowpoking my way in here
Of all the books she chooses to pick out in the Literate, she decides on taking a flower book with her. The pages featuring colored photos of roses grabbed her attention. Normally, she makes her trips off of campus a quick one and never grabs more than she can carry.
In a rush to leave, intending to head straight back to campus, she nearly bumps into the dark figure as she nears the corner. He was difficult to see, but her pair of red eyes noticed him at the last second. She takes two steps back. Yes, Pitch, she's looking directly at you.
"...Sorry."
♥
Pitch regards her with an austere sort of air, drawing himself up a bit as if he'd not been expecting anyone else (he hadn't). "Be careful when you walk in the shadows," he answers, and his mouth curls in an unpleasant smile.
no subject
Keeping her response brief, she clutches her book tightly against her side and shifts her heel to make her way to the exit. Despite maintaining a straight face outwardly, she finds the presence of the stranger very unsettling to her. Best for her to carry on and not linger around much longer, she thinks.
