SUMMARY: the forever continuing house-hunting party. also some talk about the devil.
[ He waits for them outside the dormitories.
However long it takes doesn't actually matter, shifting his stance to casually lean against the edge of the building so that his back is to it and he has a good view of the campus. He can watch the people come and go, judge a threat before it gets too close to him. Castiel has done this for a while--back before they'd been dragged to that strange little town, before space and whatever else lay beyond that. If this is going to be a quick trip, he's not sure insisting that Sam accompany them was the correct decision, but he had talked to the younger Winchester about it.
Other things had just come up, and he'd used that excuse to half-heartedly search for a place by himself.
Unsure of the direction they're going to come in, he keeps an eye out until he finally notices them, and rather than stand until they reach him, he pushes off and meets them halfway. It's an odd sight, one that invokes a memory or two he's going to ignore. This is a simple mission, one that shouldn't get complicated with thoughts of a pre-apocalyptic nature. He does, however, try to push himself up a little taller. ]
Hello, Dean. Sam. [ He gives them both a flicker of a smile. ]

Hello, Dean. Sam. [ He gives them both a flicker of a smile. ]

so he goes to meet both of them; cas for finding a new place to share, to stay, and sam to hear about whatever it is he wants to tell him about the devil. ]
So, near the library, right? [ is where they should find a new place, if he remembers what cas had said correctly. he glances at sam, just a brief look but he's almost tempted to mention something about the proximity of so many alien books probably being to his brother's liking.
he doesn't though, and instead looks to cas again. ]
Let's go.

When Sam hears the word library, he does immediately perk up at the possibility. The campus library has been frustrating, but that isn't much of a deterrent when Sam is trying to get his research on. He gives a nod to Castiel and falls into step slightly beside them, hands in the pockets of his jeans. It's too hot out for his usual eight-hundred layers, although Dean doesn't seem to share the same sentiment. A t-shirt and jeans will have to do and he's got more weapons on him than it might seem. ]

[ It's the only word he speaks before Dean gives the order to move out, responding in a way that's visibly automatic. This is the same as scouting out dead cities, looking for what's available and what they can use before pushing on. So, the concept is more than familiar to him. The only difference is that Sam is with them, and that is the odd thing about falling into step with both of them at once.
Still, he doesn't say anything about it and quietly directs them toward the academic building. The entrance they use is actually across from the library, which makes it a convenient setup if ever a need arose to access whatever it might offer them. Once inside, Castiel tilts his head to indicate the above floors. ]
The majority of the rooms are all the same in terms of usefulness. [ Which means not at all. ] There's also a basement.
[ That he hasn't had the chance to explore. ]
no subject
I'm guessing that means a whole lot of cleaning up and fixing things.
[ they can do that. heck, dean thinks it might be... good. he needs a distraction from the usual hating on the devil, and if it can be something as useful as setting up their new
campplace, then so be it. ]We'll clear out the basement, too. The more space we can have, the better.

But Zelien isn't the first choice. You have to work with what you've got.
He runs his fingers along a window sill. The layer of dust is thick. ]
No one's been in here for a while.
[ Which is probably a good thing; it means no one is going to come snooping. ]

[ Because there is no running water, no basic necessities in this building whatsoever. Castiel has checked; at least, he's looked around enough to realize it, and actually getting this place to the point they won't have to rely on anything the dormitories provide will be a difficult task. He doesn't mind the dust or the debris littering the floor. Broken tiles, parts of the wall and a lot of other random things crunch under his boots as he walks a little deeper in.
Out of that room and into another, heading straight for a hallway. It's an indication he'd been exploring in there for a while. ]
It will take some time to clear it out. [ He pauses, turns to glance over his shoulder. ] This way.
[ And he heads off in the direction of the basement. ]

Good, we want the privacy. [ it will be to their advantage, away from immediate eyes unlike if they stay at the dorms. the less people know about this place, the better.
he turns to follow cas then, floor creaking under his boots and dust lifts from where they move. here's to hoping the basement is big enough, it'd be nice to have someplace for the torture room.
you know, just in case they need one......
also, tossing a look at sam. ]
Speaking of, you're not inviting anyone else here, Sam.

Sam raises his head when he's addressed, first looking a bit surprised and then he frowns, giving Dean a seriously? look. What is this, high school? ]
What do you think I'm gonna do, throw parties?
[ In case you don't remember, Dean, that was you back in school. ]
no subject
I think it's best it remains a secret for now - between the three of us. [ Which is said to try easing the tension that's risen up. ] But a party sounds nice.
[ Which is said warmly despite the sarcasm lacing the words. Nothing either of them could have done would have pleased Dean anyhow. This, Castiel has learned by now, isn't new.
Still, he keeps a steady pace, winding through a hallway and then taking a staircase down before stopping short of a door labeling it the entrance to the basement. He tilts his head, stepping aside so they could get a look at it. ]

No parties.
[ because dean hates fun.
and also because where sam would have been a stretch, dean has little trouble believing that cas would in turn definitely do it. and whether that party be between just the three of them -- jesus fuck no thank you -- or more people, he doesn't want it.
he follows cas, and at the foot of the stairs, just in front of the door, he huffs quietly. ]
If we find any bodies, you get to clean them out. [ it's said almost casually to cas, like that's been an order somewhere, sometime before. ]
no subject
He brings up the rear, placing a hand on the wall as they descend creaking steps, ones that Sam takes with some level of uncertainty of how long they will actually hold. ]
no subject
But he nods once at Dean before reaching out to grab Sam's arm to keep him from going to far down those steps. ]
We should test them before we go down. I doubt these steps will hold all of us together. [ They're really pushing it just standing at the top. ] I can go first.
[ Which has him placing a hand on the wall to guide him as he takes the first creaking step down. In hindsight, they probably should have brought a flashlight. ]
no subject
Careful. Don't need you laid up with a broken leg again.
[ said with a pointed look, almost like yet another order. don't fucking get hurt. and as cas starts down the stairs, dean watches for a moment, and then turns to sam. ]
We'll have to guard this place up with Devil's Traps. And ward it against angels.
[ since those are the real worry here. ]
no subject
You can ward against angels?
[ Well, shit. Of course they can; if demons, if plenty of different types of monsters that crawl the earth, why not heavenly beings as well? Why does no one tell him these sorts of things? ]
That would've been nice to know.
[ Especially considering Lucifer is essentially his neighbor. ]
no subject
Of course they should have explained that to him. He could have shown him. ]
There's still time to —
[ But no. There really isn't time at all because the next step Castiel takes down groans and creaks louder than the last few, the inevitable warning of wood that's about to break under his weight. He scrapes his hand along the wall in an attempt to reach out to the two behind him.
A little help would be nice right about now since it's giving in quick, and he's falling. ]
no subject
I thought other-me was holding your hand through all this.
[ after what he'd done to sam, he'd kept his distance and then his younger-self had appeared. dean had taken it as a cue to not get too involved, especially since the other dean had demanded he stay away. staying away meant he hadn't been able to teach sam these things, so really, it's all that dean's fault.
but there's no time to talk about that, not with dean tossing a look at cas and finding him falling not a second later. ]
Son of a bitch-- [ it's only because the other man scrapes for anything to hold onto that dean has enough time to step closer, instantaneous in the way his hands shoots out to grab whatever he can; it's the front of his shirt instead of his arm, and dean yanks. ]

The rush of adrenaline has his heart racing, but he's also amused, smile present on his face as he catches his breath. Quietly, he twists enough to look over his shoulder. ]
Maybe we should find another way down. [ It's only half sarcasm. ]
no subject
You're the one who found the place. Which way?
[ they're gonna have to fix the stairs either way, but all in due time. ]
