and when you wake up on your own
CHARACTERS: Helen Magnus (
lifelines) and Ryan Newman (
sugarpills)
DATE: 3/20 (Week 17, day 3-ish)
RATING: PG-13 for now
SUMMARY: Helen checks up on Ryan's situation
A few days had passed since Helen had seen the message and given her advice to the young man. She still wasn't entirely certain what his name even was. She had given hers, but he had not returned the introduction and she hadn't wanted to push the issue. Now, however, she was wondering vaguely if she should have, if perhaps she could find him and ask him how he's doing and if her suggestion had helped him work out whatever was bothering him.
She settled in the library after a while, pulling up the conversation and wondering if she could possibly pinpoint a name from any of the other responses. There was, of course, also the option to respond again to their conversation and ask directly how he was doing now. Perhaps that would be the best course. For a while, she simply remained there, debating her options. Were she at home, this wouldn't even be an issue. She would have her contacts look him up and ask him that way. Here, it's a different issue entirely. She pauses again and moves to stand up. It might do her some good to wander the campus until she sorts out what she wants to do about this.

The note idea was actually working! Ryan had it geared for so long in his mind that Charley would want nothing to do with him anymore. Was it COMPASS' fault? Yeah. But in the end, he killed her. He thought a little note saying he was sorry (with more scribbles than space, to be honest) wouldn't get him anywhere. If anything, he thought that she would just push him away further. That's what someone normal would do, right?
Ryan carried the notes in his pocket. He still felt it- the little pangs of grief and disgust for what he did. They would take over his mind and plague him, and the drowning feeling of sadness would return. But if he just read the notes over once, maybe even twice…it was okay again. Things would be okay.
He was wondering around the campus now, happy to have a reason to be out despite the gross conditions of it all. Maybe there was a chance. Maybe-
…she looked familiar.
Ryan paused, watching the lady stroll down the streets. He couldn't determine anything other than her face; when he posted that thing on the network, it had mostly been text based. Something in Ryan grew a little brave, and he started to approach. "Hey, are you...?"

"Is there something I can do for you?"

"I think you were the one who told me to write notes to someone I was having problems with. Well, she didn't have a problem, but I did." Leave it to Ryan to make things sound a lot worse than they were…"I just wanted to tell you thanks. I wrote her a few notes and we've been hanging out for a while now since."

But not for long. "Ah." Oh that made much more sense. Her smile turned a little more relaxed and a little more warm. "Well, I'm glad it worked out for you. I take it the situation wasn't quite as dire as you had expected?"

Ryan looked back up, and gave Helen a sincere smile. "We met up already once. And that's thanks to you."

"I assure you, I didn't do it for thanks, but I'm glad it's working out between you two. It's good to have friends here, those you know from home and those you've met here." And perhaps she and Ryan could work out a friendship in the future. He seemed like a nice guy, if troubled. Just the sort Helen usually took under her wing.
"From the way you're speaking of it, I assume that meeting went fairly well."
