You light up my life~
CHARACTERS: Nikola Tesla (
hiddenagenda) and YOU!
DATE: 3/20 [Week 17, Days 2 and on]
RATING: R for rollicking good time
SUMMARY: Nikola is out and about, lighting things up a bit. Supplies limited, order today!
Day 2
[First thing's first: Nikola cannot work in pitch freaking darkness. This is not okay, not allowed, so how's he going to pull an all-nighter? It's unacceptable. So... you might spy a light lighting up from the outside of the building, or see him casually zapping a light on with a firm grip of his hand over the bulb as he sifts through the endless stores of creamed corn.
He may also be silently cursing Edison for this whole thing. Maybe. Probably. You never know.]
Day 3+
[As things go on, Nikola finds himself more and more exhausted and less able to do his little light-up trick. If you've had him light up your room, it didn't stay that way for long, and his skill grows less and less useful as time passes. Maybe you'll catch him taking a rest, leaning against a wall or perhaps even napping in an unusual place, having dropped in energy (with great annoyance) after lighting something up.
He's also wandered out to the shops and the library, wary of cultists and ready for anything, so if you see him out on the town he is most definitely either already vamped out, or sure as hell ready to at the drop of a hat.]

day 3
for once.
either way, here she is approaching whatever wall he's decided to lean again today. ]
Nikola?
no subject
He's been trying to help, okay, even if most of that helping is in his own room and floor and area. Who knew using his natural abilities would cause him such grief?]
Don't. Say. Anything.
no subject
[ because banter is easier than addressing the fact that she's pretty sure he was just leaning on the wall for support and if that's true, then he's not doing as well as she would hope. and that is not something she wants to deal with. ]
no subject
[Totally fine. Definitely not half starved and using up all his electricity mojo trying to keep the place a bit lighter. He's not looking faint, but he is looking irritable and tired. So tired. Maybe even tired enough to sleep. Weird stuff.]
no subject
Fine as in you've eaten well or fine as in you've just been revamped?
[ aka how is the serum situation? and it might also be a dig to try to find out where in the timeline he is. what is his last memory of home... well, their world, their home, the sanctuary, whatever term they want to use. ]
no subject
[He'll just kind of... cross his arms and lean back on the wall quite casually. Hungry and grumpy and tired do not a good vampire make.]
Fine as in I'm doing my civic duty and lighting the place up when people come crying.
no subject
I can't imagine that's very easy. Since when have you cared about civic duty?
[ she knows him. there's something else going on here. not that she's complaining about that civic duty, but still... ]

day 3
So color him curious. ]
Run out of batteries?
no subject
[Unusual spots, and an unusual occurrence in every way. Nikola hardly ever takes a breather unless he's simply hanging around and indulging in wine or a diversion of some sort. Normally a busy bee, he's now tired and hungry. The concept of having to rest from using his ability is still new and irritating, and he can tell he's stretching himself thin. But he'll keep it up. Free energy.]
no subject
Have you tried not helping in general?
no subject
[Considered and been mildly nudged that he should go make use of his abilities while he can, while they're needed. A man of many talents, yes, but how shall he honestly use them? Sitting around and not lighting up a hall when he needs to walk down it is just plain silly when it can be done. He's beginning to realize it takes its toll, however.]
Considered it and been convinced otherwise. You're welcome.
no subject
Whoever convinced you should get scolded. Look where you ended up resting.
no subject
The helping is over for the day. Believe me, I'm just... done. I'm done with a lot of this.
[Yeah, mini-rant is avoided when Nikola just kind of side-eyes the area and settles a hand on his hip.]

Day 2
Hey, cool! How are you doing that?
no subject
Nikola withdraws his hand from the bulb sharply and turns to look at the newcomer.]
If I said it was magic, I hope you'd know better than to believe me.
no subject
[He paused, then, after a moment added,]
Mine, for example, does in fact have witches and functional spells, as well as werewolves and vampires which, depending on your definition of magic could possibly qualify. However, I am also not going to instantly assume that your lighting the lightbulb is, in fact magic, which was why I was asking how you were doing it in the first place.
[Was that too wordy of a response? No, of course not. There was no such thing as 'too wordy' in Merton's world.]
no subject
Point taken. Magic isn't not a thing here.
[The rest of it is what gets Nikola's attention, though, and he crosses his arms, finally looking interested. Verbosity aside, at least something was useful about what was being said.]
But you said werewolves and vampires and witches, oh my. Tell me yours and I'll tell you mine.
no subject
[Merton grabbed a can of creamed corn and a can opener and got to work.]
Vampires drink human blood, except for the ones who drink werewolf blood, werewolves turn into their wolf-man form when they get worked up, especially when the moon's full, and witches cast spells, and apparently can use celery and cucumbers as magic wands, and you probably shouldn't say their names three times, because they can be terribly controlling.
[Just then he got the can open and, getting a spoon, began eating it.]
no subject
Vampires drink human blood or whatever they want, and this one drinks a lot of wine, which by the way, if you find some, I'm buying. Werewolves have tea parties and people with "supernatural" powers--while weird--are occasionally really helpful. Abnormals. People and creatures with unique qualities. [Lookit, Helen's rubbing off on him.]

I am SO sorry for being slow, I was on vacation x.x
Day 4
Jefferson's already picked the bones of what stores remain open to them for supplies the people back on campus might find useful, because holing up in the library or sitting idle have become his only options otherwise, and if there's one thing you don't want on your hands, it's a Mad Hatter going stir-crazy. So with what little he could haul back with him, he'd been on his way back to the campus proper...
Had been. Now he's bent low, trying to determine if the man's alive and needs woken, or if he's dead and can be looted for whatever he happens to have on him. A little mercenary, perhaps, but if he's dead he's not going to need what he's got in his pockets, is he? ]
Hey.
[ There's a quiet hiss and a quick toe of his boot in an attempt to rouse the man. ]
no subject
Wow.
Maybe don't kick hungry vampires.
It only takes a moment for Nikola to snap to, all fangs and long, black nails, a toothy scowl on his face as he springs awake.]
I have had a long day, and if you kick me one more time, I will make sure you don't do it again.
[But it's honestly a struggle to get to his feet, and once he's upright, he shakes his head quickly, rolls his neck out, tries to get himself invigorated so he can get his bearings. And there, off in the distance, some cultists. Great.]
...Don't tell me you were playing hero. You don't even know me.
no subject
Jefferson jerks back when the man comes to, just enough to keep him out of swiping range, but the shock doesn't last long on his face. The guy's awake now, so obviously NOT dead and available for looting. Oh well. It was worth a try, even if it had nearly cost him a leg. ]
Well. The next time I see a body just lying around in the street, I'll be sure to leave it to the snakes.
[ His lips thin, but as Nikola's gaze travels over his shoulder to the distant figures gathering, he finds himself turning to look. Now he looks a little tense. ]
Hero? First time someone's accused me of that.
[ But he's not even close to that assessment. He's perfectly willing to step back, for example, and put the cranky vampire between him and the approaching figures. ]
no subject
Nikola is caught up in his own little world for a second, stretching and scoping things out before finally focusing entirely on the man before him. Then he tips his head to the side because seriously, new face bugging him. He figures he ought to be used to it by now, but sometimes it's weird, all these new people. So many people. Ugh.]
What are you, a super villain? [Walking forward a little, Nikola shakes his head, and puts a hand out to stop his new acquaintance from turning tail.] Even if you are, that's bad news. Worse than the snakes.
no subject
I'd explain how the opposite of a hero isn't a villain at all, but we are going to be having company shortly. Maybe a conversation for another time?
[ There's no desire to stick around and remain fodder for the cultists' plans, and Tesla himself is starting to make his skin crawl. Maybe not necessarily in a bad sense, but there's the stink of something odd about him. Unnatural. He can't put his finger on it, but honestly if he can't pick out oddities at a glance he'd have been absolute rubbish at his job. ]
sorry for the delay, was on vacation!!!
We can argue semantics and philosophy when we're not about to have to do something drastic.
[There's a pause as Nikola considers. They could stay, stand, fight, but he's weakened from lack of food and rest, from helping and being a busy little bee. It's not right to turn tail and flee, not really, but on the other... not wise to stay.]
You help me find a way out of their line of sight for a while and I'll owe you a favor.
