You light up my life~

CHARACTERS: Nikola Tesla ([personal profile] hiddenagenda) and YOU!
DATE: 3/20 [Week 17, Days 2 and on]
RATING: R for rollicking good time
SUMMARY: Nikola is out and about, lighting things up a bit. Supplies limited, order today!

Day 2
[First thing's first: Nikola cannot work in pitch freaking darkness. This is not okay, not allowed, so how's he going to pull an all-nighter? It's unacceptable. So... you might spy a light lighting up from the outside of the building, or see him casually zapping a light on with a firm grip of his hand over the bulb as he sifts through the endless stores of creamed corn.

He may also be silently cursing Edison for this whole thing. Maybe. Probably. You never know.]

Day 3+
[As things go on, Nikola finds himself more and more exhausted and less able to do his little light-up trick. If you've had him light up your room, it didn't stay that way for long, and his skill grows less and less useful as time passes. Maybe you'll catch him taking a rest, leaning against a wall or perhaps even napping in an unusual place, having dropped in energy (with great annoyance) after lighting something up.

He's also wandered out to the shops and the library, wary of cultists and ready for anything, so if you see him out on the town he is most definitely either already vamped out, or sure as hell ready to at the drop of a hat.]

lifelines: sanctuary for none }{ it was vital that addison and his agenda get derailed ({ is that really what you want)

day 3

[personal profile] lifelines 2014-03-21 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[ at some point, he's going to have a worried helen -- yes, worried, though she's not going to say it and certainly is trying not to show it -- making her way to him. she sees that rest break there, nikola, and she isn't pleased about it. not that she's upset with him, exactly; she's more upset with the way things are working here and that really isn't anything he's done.

for once.

either way, here she is approaching whatever wall he's decided to lean again today. ]

Nikola?
lifelines: fugue }{ gold's a bold suggestion but too risky i'm afraid ({ running out of ways to make you see)

[personal profile] lifelines 2014-03-23 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
And what in the world would I say? "Thank you, Nikola, for ensuring that I have something to worry about while I'm here?"

[ because banter is easier than addressing the fact that she's pretty sure he was just leaning on the wall for support and if that's true, then he's not doing as well as she would hope. and that is not something she wants to deal with. ]
lifelines: chimera }{ oh this is gonna be good ({ or don't you remember)

[personal profile] lifelines 2014-03-25 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ she eyes him. not buying it at all. ]

Fine as in you've eaten well or fine as in you've just been revamped?

[ aka how is the serum situation? and it might also be a dig to try to find out where in the timeline he is. what is his last memory of home... well, their world, their home, the sanctuary, whatever term they want to use. ]
lifelines: sanctuary for all }{ i spent all the intervening years trying to undo that mistake ({ and played my mind)

[personal profile] lifelines 2014-03-26 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ that doesn't answer her question in the slightest, so she has a feeling he's not doing as well as she would have hoped. her eyes narrow in that suspicious way she has. ]

I can't imagine that's very easy. Since when have you cared about civic duty?

[ she knows him. there's something else going on here. not that she's complaining about that civic duty, but still... ]

day 3

[personal profile] homeoffice 2014-03-22 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Felix comes up next to him, holding a well-made torch of his own craft, while Tesla's taking one of his lovely powered down moments of resting in a weird spot. He doesn't find it particularly odd anyone would rest wherever they please, after all his boys sometimes picked the most unusual spots simply because they figured nobody would bother them there (wrong, always wrong.) -- but an adult doing it is a bit unexpected. They're usually far pickier so this would obviously be an act of exhaustion.

So color him curious. ]

[ It clicks that this is the guy that lit a light for someone earlier. The pun was unintentional but now he's mentally patting himself on the back for it. It's a fascinating thing, the lighting-things-up. Impressive. Useful for something but nothing he's actually doing with it. Who needs to waste talent when you can just make a fire? Modern people are so lazy. That's such a waste. ]

Have you tried not helping in general?
homeoffice: commission; do not take (Default)

[personal profile] homeoffice 2014-03-27 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[ All magic comes at a price, they say. Like exhaustion. Obviously he's helping a little too much. ]

Whoever convinced you should get scolded. Look where you ended up resting.

Day 2

[personal profile] squishy_sidekick 2014-03-23 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Merton had been going down the the kitchen to have a delightful meal of...creamed corn, again, when he saw someone with what he initially assumed was a flashlight. Handy, but when he realized that it was just a lightbulb that was being lit...somehow, it managed to seem even handier.]

Hey, cool! How are you doing that?
squishy_sidekick: (Default)

[personal profile] squishy_sidekick 2014-03-25 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well that depends. I mean, we're in a place that is filled with people brought from a wide variety of convergent universes and while I'm not assuming that's magic in and of itself, several people might be from worlds where magic is, in fact, real.

[He paused, then, after a moment added,]

Mine, for example, does in fact have witches and functional spells, as well as werewolves and vampires which, depending on your definition of magic could possibly qualify. However, I am also not going to instantly assume that your lighting the lightbulb is, in fact magic, which was why I was asking how you were doing it in the first place.

[Was that too wordy of a response? No, of course not. There was no such thing as 'too wordy' in Merton's world.]
squishy_sidekick: (Default)

[personal profile] squishy_sidekick 2014-03-28 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they're mostly what you'd expect.

[Merton grabbed a can of creamed corn and a can opener and got to work.]

Vampires drink human blood, except for the ones who drink werewolf blood, werewolves turn into their wolf-man form when they get worked up, especially when the moon's full, and witches cast spells, and apparently can use celery and cucumbers as magic wands, and you probably shouldn't say their names three times, because they can be terribly controlling.

[Just then he got the can open and, getting a spoon, began eating it.]

Day 4

[personal profile] hattergonnahat 2014-03-24 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Out and about is definitely not where you want to be caught napping, because while the wildlife might pass you by, the cultists aren't going to be as discerning.

Jefferson's already picked the bones of what stores remain open to them for supplies the people back on campus might find useful, because holing up in the library or sitting idle have become his only options otherwise, and if there's one thing you don't want on your hands, it's a Mad Hatter going stir-crazy. So with what little he could haul back with him, he'd been on his way back to the campus proper...

Had been. Now he's bent low, trying to determine if the man's alive and needs woken, or if he's dead and can be looted for whatever he happens to have on him. A little mercenary, perhaps, but if he's dead he's not going to need what he's got in his pockets, is he? ]

Hey.

[ There's a quiet hiss and a quick toe of his boot in an attempt to rouse the man. ]
hattergonnahat: (fear is healthy where you're concerned)

[personal profile] hattergonnahat 2014-03-27 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well excuse him for not knowing a vampire when he sees one, lying in the street like a hobo.

Jefferson jerks back when the man comes to, just enough to keep him out of swiping range, but the shock doesn't last long on his face. The guy's awake now, so obviously NOT dead and available for looting. Oh well. It was worth a try, even if it had nearly cost him a leg. ]

Well. The next time I see a body just lying around in the street, I'll be sure to leave it to the snakes.

[ His lips thin, but as Nikola's gaze travels over his shoulder to the distant figures gathering, he finds himself turning to look. Now he looks a little tense. ]

Hero? First time someone's accused me of that.

[ But he's not even close to that assessment. He's perfectly willing to step back, for example, and put the cranky vampire between him and the approaching figures. ]
hattergonnahat: (they will find you in 12 dumpsters)

[personal profile] hattergonnahat 2014-04-01 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He might get a hold on him, but Jefferson's slippery, and if he wants to escape he will. Instead he gives the vampire a flat look, jaw grinding. ]

I'd explain how the opposite of a hero isn't a villain at all, but we are going to be having company shortly. Maybe a conversation for another time?

[ There's no desire to stick around and remain fodder for the cultists' plans, and Tesla himself is starting to make his skin crawl. Maybe not necessarily in a bad sense, but there's the stink of something odd about him. Unnatural. He can't put his finger on it, but honestly if he can't pick out oddities at a glance he'd have been absolute rubbish at his job. ]
