I love everything that
rinsbane writes. I cannot decide whether this story is 100% successful, but it's such an exciting experiment that I think you will want to read it anyway. In a wartime fic from Draco's perspective, we see a dark interpretation of Lupin/Snape, Lupin/Tonks, and Harry's relationship with Lupin. This is an amazing Draco--and even offstage, this is a very compelling and mysterious Snape. The thing that makes this a brilliant Draco is that he seems canonical to me. (I'm writing Draco in a couple of stories right now and I just have no idea how to make him seem like the canon Draco Malfoy--dragon or chimera?)
What makes this experimental is that she wrote it entirely in the future tense, and left the ending open, so we don't actually know which of several possibilities comes to pass. That's the part that I don't know whether I like. As usual, though, this is such compelling, tight writing with so many beautiful images that I don't care.
The rating is a hard R, for not very explicit sex--the images of violence are somewhat disturbing, though, and the mood is dark.
The Gnostic Crane
I don't know how I pick things to rec when there is so much good stuff on my flist all the time. The art in the last few days has been amazing.

Date: 2007-02-22 04:40 am (UTC)The story could have been written in past or present, and then only the last bit in future. I think that would have been much more effective. As it is, the future tense drove me batshit insane, to the point where it prevents any positive response to the story.
