Yes, yes, I know I have other things to do at this hour. I'm just transported with happy sighs because of how [livejournal.com profile] rexluscus ended her fan novel, Between Wind and Water. I love the way she characterized Norrington in this.

If you have been holding off reading this until the whole thing is posted, well, it's all posted. A fan novel set in the Pirates of the Caribbean fandom that will make you think of the great swashbuckling novels and movies of the 1940s--except with a gay love story, of course. An epic love story--it completely makes sense that Norrington and Sparrow are the loves of each other's lives. Second to the sea of course. ([livejournal.com profile] schemingreader now must squee like a squeeing thing.)

Even though I was close to this during the whole project I'm still amazed and delighted to see it at its completion. It's just so wonderful that we get this kind of writing out of fandom.

I've been waiting for it to be finished and now my life has purpose again. Or, at least, something to distract when I should be doing work.

I've been avoiding it because I like [livejournal.com profile] rexluscus's writing, but I don't want to be sucked into another fandom. But I might have to peek... just a little....

It's not a fandom. It's just a novel. You don't need to know the movies to enjoy it, and it won't motivate you to watch more of them, as it's only about the characters in the first picture.

I would have enjoyed reading this as a piece of fiction. I love how it's rooted in the historical period.

But it could leeeeeeead me into the PotC fandom. I adore the movies. Well, the first one, and like all the others.

*sigh*

I see I'll have to look....

The story will still be there when you have time to read it.

I have a weakness for really, really good pieces of fanfiction. This one is nothing short of amazing. I was reading until 2:30 this morning.

Ha ha ha! It is amazing, isn't it? Did you read the NOTES?!? If I didn't already know and love this person, I would be writing her mash notes right now over those historical notes. Dude.

YES! I loved the notes.
It was like looking into a magician's box, and glimpsing a few of the the workings of magic.

If I weren't so grateful to you for the rec, I'd be very annoyed. ,-)

It's true that I happened to have watched the 3rd POTC on Sunday evening, and it's true that since the moment I laid eyes on Captain Jack Sparrow I've considered him inexpressibly sexy. But Norrington never really made an impression on me, and I'm pretty slash-centric when it comes to fan fic, so I haven't bothered to read many POTC stories.

But your delight made me curious, so I decided to at least read a little of the first chapter to see what I thought of the characterization of Sparrow.

And now it's well over three hours later - the morning is almost over and I haven't accomplished a single thing! Of course, even in that time I couldn't read every detail and I skipped some bits, but still...

Hope you are leaving lots of love for [livejournal.com profile] rexluscus!

The actor who plays Norrington is very handsome. Just saying.
