One thing I always loved about HP fandom was how having a big ensemble of characters gives you freedom to ship them all a lot of different ways. bethbethbeth called Snape the little black dress of HP fandom, but the truth is, I also love Luna with Hermione, Harry with Neville, Draco with Hermione, Draco with Ron, Ron with Harry. I love all the possible ways that pairings can open up characterization and make you revise your view of a story and human nature. (And I love gen fic, too.)

Even though I have an OTP in Sherlock Holmes and related fandoms, I have eagerly consumed all the fic that's Sherlock/Lestrade, Mycroft/Lestrade, John/Mycroft, John/Lestrade, Molly/Sherlock, and so on and so forth and yay. Also the great Sherlock-is-ace-John-is-straight romances.

I'm enjoying the same feeling reading Avengers fan fic. First of all, the sum total of canon is enormous! I mean, there are the movies, yes. You could write fan fic based only on The Avengers, or you could include the other movies, or, if you wanted, you could include nearly five decades of comics. I've only just started with the comics.

What this means is, having a single OTP doesn't really make sense. Well, of course, if you have one that you love, it makes sense for you, and I promise to enjoy your fics or fic recs, no problem. But at the same time, wow! I love and adore Clint/Coulson stories, but I also find the possible slashy het of Clint/Natasha totally compelling. What about Coulson/Fury, or Coulson/Steve? Tony Stark obviously belongs with Steve Rogers, unless he obviously belongs with Bruce Banner, or Pepper Potts, or Rhodey, or Nick Fury, or Loki. Loki! Loki is either too horrible to be slashed with anyone, or wonderful to be slashed with Thor, or Tony, or Natasha, or Clint (dub con!) or Captain America.

Basically, I am looking for fandoms that make you all write a lot of fun stories. This sums up my meta on pairings in new fandoms, if you can elevate this all the way up to calling it meta.
