Happy Purim! It's today. I didn't participate in the Purimgifts fest, but I did participate in Purim. I'm going to be doing some actual drinking of alcoholic beverages later this afternoon. Maybe. I'm kind of tired and perhaps should stick with tea or coffee.

I have caved and set myself up with a Tumblr. My username is the same as this one. If you have recommendations for things I should follow, lay them on me. I am following a lot of Avengers fandom/Marvel comics stuff, one really dynamite Sherlock Holmes multi-fandom one, plus all the unrelated Tumblrs I was previously following on FB or my RSS feed. (By Holmes-multi-fandom, I mean that the person seems to like all the film and TV versions and the ACD version, and I'm with her on that.)

The best thing I found, that I must rec here, is a fan comic. It's Captain America writing one of those hipster indie autobiographical sketch comics. It's called American Captain. It's MCU!Steve. I totally loved every one of these. I think they are the kind of fan work I would share with my non-fannish friends, because they are so clever and require no fannon to be intelligible.

I started writing another Avengers fic during a lull in my work schedule. Now it looks like that lull is going to be longer than I thought, which is very bad, so I'm trying to fill the time with gig and job hunting again. How long it takes me to finish the fic sort of depends on how efficient I am with my current job stuff. I'm writing this now because there's some pretty serious chaos in my house at this moment... my landlord doing his own plumbing went south in a big way and now we have to have the main shut-off valve to the whole two-family, replaced. The city is coming to deal with it.

I've decided that I love all Avengers stories that feature Bruce Banner dealing with his issues, so here's a bunch of recs for those I collected:

The Healing Properties of Felt-Tip Pens (3465 words) by Echo
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Avengers (2012)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Bruce Banner & Steve Rogers
Additional Tags: Self-Harm (if you squint), Rapid Healing, Mental Health Issues, Aftermath of Torture, Angst, Steve Feels
Summary:

Rapid healing has worked wonders on Steve Rogers' body, but occasionally it really screws with his head. In the aftermath of torture, Bruce Banner helps Steve to reconcile mind and body.

Quotidian (6725 words) by metisket
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Avengers (2012)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Clint Barton, Natasha Romanov, Phil Coulson, Pepper Potts, Thor (Marvel)
Additional Tags: you wouldn't like me angry, i'm always angry, Mad Science, Mad Scientists, Doombots, jarvis disapproves, clint is the designated spare pants guy
Summary:

An average day in the life of Bruce Banner. He tries so hard to mind his own business and stay below the radar. He does try. There should probably be a cautionary proverb about the best laid plans and Tony Stark.

No Force in the Universe Can Stop Me (15281 words) by notbeloved07
Chapters: 9/9
Fandom: The Avengers (2012), Marvel (Movies), Marvel Avengers Movies Universe, Iron Man (Movies)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Bruce Banner/Tony Stark, Bruce Banner & Tony Stark, Happy Hogan/Pepper Potts, Pepper Potts & Tony Stark, Obadiah Stane & Tony Stark, Bruce Banner & Pepper Potts, Jarvis (Iron Man movies) & Tony Stark
Characters: Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, Pepper Potts, Happy Hogan, Obadiah Stane, Jarvis (Iron Man movies)
Additional Tags: BAMF Bruce, BAMF Tony, BAMF Pepper, BAMF Happy, warning: kidnapping, Science Boyfriends, Science Bros, Alternate Universe, BAMF Jarvis, Competence, Smart Is The New Sexy, warning: mention of attempted suicide, Confidence Tricks, impersonation of government officials, disguises, Action/Adventure, Feels, Heist
Summary:

Taking a shot at filling my own prompt on avengerkink:

In an AU, instead of taking out Tony's arc-reactor, Obadiah Stane kidnapped Tony, faked his death in a "lab accident", imprisoned him, and forced him to design weapons for Stane.

Bruce is going about his day hacking Stark Industries to learn more about the Hulkbuster weapons when he comes across some discrepancies in the code--subtle things, like inefficient loops in otherwise streamlined code, bizarre variable names, or incorrect comments.

Intrigued, he goes through all the code of SI's weapons industry, comes up with a pattern, and finds the messages Tony has been hiding in the code.

And then he goes and busts Tony out. Lots of badassery, including on Tony's part--he may be defeated, but he's not broken.

Also, Responsible Science, the wonderful series that [archiveofourown.org profile] lettered was writing has another long installment, Let's Stop the Time Warp Again. I still think The Kids Weren't Alright is the best one, because the narrative arc is the clearest, but this last one features a lovely series of interactions between Jane (of Thor fame) and Bruce.

I'm reading a lot of actual comics, too. In addition to checking out all the new Marvel series (and some of the old ones!) and becoming one of the many Fraction & Aja Hawkeye enthusiasts, I am also watching Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra and reading the comics for those series. I've seen a lot of fan art about Lin Beifong, and I finally know who she is! Do you have any favorite fanworks for that series?

I am such a fangirl for the Fraction, Hawkeye series. Awww, Clint. (No real spoilers, but takes images from the latest issue (Hurricane Sandy))

I have followed you on tumblr. Texts From The Avengers is good. Fuck yeah, Bucky and Natasha is also good (if a bit heartbreaky). Fuck yeah, Black Widow is great, and often has interesting meta. soemily is a friend's tumblr, which is alternately pictures of landscapes or political/law thoughts and punk bands.

I did all my Purim drinking last night. Mostly cheap whiskey and vodka, in quantity. Towards the end of the night I demanded, and received, a passable explanation of why Haman and Mordechai were both the bad guy. Mitzvah: Satisfied.

Frelichin Purim to you, however you end up celebrating.

Also, I have three thousand words of an Avengers fic and am feeling a bit stalled. Since you seem to have many Avengers opinions, could you maybe take a look and see if you can help with brainstorming?

How far into A:TLA are you? I can't help you with Korra (don't feel like watching that one), but I have a few things to rec for A:TLA.

Okay, I just wanted to know so I don't accidently spoil you or something. *g*

I posted a few A:TLA recs on [community profile] fancake - if I've done it right, you should find them all here.

But really, anything by [personal profile] delphi (cross-gen and rare pairings) or [archiveofourown.org profile] Nele - especially the gorgeous People in the mirror are closer than they appear. Which was written for me and is still a WIP, but with over 125,000 words there's already plenty to read. Looking forward to the next chapter so so much! *g*

Aaaaaaand...there's of course Embers by [fanfiction.net profile] Vathara. Which is one of the most popular A:TLA fics but highly controversial. Also still a WIP, but at almost 680,000 words. I still love it to bits.

There's also [livejournal.com profile] avocado_love's rec list here. I found some interesting things on that one, as well, even though our tastes in pairings don't exactly match. *g*
