Fannish update
Feb. 24th, 2013 12:09 pmI have caved and set myself up with a Tumblr. My username is the same as this one. If you have recommendations for things I should follow, lay them on me. I am following a lot of Avengers fandom/Marvel comics stuff, one really dynamite Sherlock Holmes multi-fandom one, plus all the unrelated Tumblrs I was previously following on FB or my RSS feed. (By Holmes-multi-fandom, I mean that the person seems to like all the film and TV versions and the ACD version, and I'm with her on that.)
The best thing I found, that I must rec here, is a fan comic. It's Captain America writing one of those hipster indie autobiographical sketch comics. It's called American Captain. It's MCU!Steve. I totally loved every one of these. I think they are the kind of fan work I would share with my non-fannish friends, because they are so clever and require no fannon to be intelligible.
I started writing another Avengers fic during a lull in my work schedule. Now it looks like that lull is going to be longer than I thought, which is very bad, so I'm trying to fill the time with gig and job hunting again. How long it takes me to finish the fic sort of depends on how efficient I am with my current job stuff. I'm writing this now because there's some pretty serious chaos in my house at this moment... my landlord doing his own plumbing went south in a big way and now we have to have the main shut-off valve to the whole two-family, replaced. The city is coming to deal with it.
I've decided that I love all Avengers stories that feature Bruce Banner dealing with his issues, so here's a bunch of recs for those I collected:

An average day in the life of Bruce Banner. He tries so hard to mind his own business and stay below the radar. He does try. There should probably be a cautionary proverb about the best laid plans and Tony Stark.

Summary:
Taking a shot at filling my own prompt on avengerkink:
In an AU, instead of taking out Tony's arc-reactor, Obadiah Stane kidnapped Tony, faked his death in a "lab accident", imprisoned him, and forced him to design weapons for Stane.
Bruce is going about his day hacking Stark Industries to learn more about the Hulkbuster weapons when he comes across some discrepancies in the code--subtle things, like inefficient loops in otherwise streamlined code, bizarre variable names, or incorrect comments.
Intrigued, he goes through all the code of SI's weapons industry, comes up with a pattern, and finds the messages Tony has been hiding in the code.
And then he goes and busts Tony out. Lots of badassery, including on Tony's part--he may be defeated, but he's not broken.
Also, Responsible Science, the wonderful series that
I'm reading a lot of actual comics, too. In addition to checking out all the new Marvel series (and some of the old ones!) and becoming one of the many Fraction & Aja Hawkeye enthusiasts, I am also watching Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra and reading the comics for those series. I've seen a lot of fan art about Lin Beifong, and I finally know who she is! Do you have any favorite fanworks for that series?
