l'esprit d'escalier
Aug. 6th, 2006 10:54 amDid I spell that correctly? I missed the boat with
mechiaeh's Perhapxicon and suddenly I find myself with a bunch of definitions for it when the party is over. (Several discovered in chats with
stasia,
cruisedirector and
rexluscus.) So, here they are:
Parceltongue: The language Harry starts hissing when he looks at Snape's nice package for too long.
kinkering: Editing one's own fic by making many miniscule changes to the sex scenes.
uniporn: As
painless_j put it here, some fics are "interesting and well-done but not my thing." The best example of this is when a writer with really great chops decides to write something very "unicorns and rainbows." Related to this:
disapporntment: (Again, read
painless_j's rant on this subject) a slasher with a great and original idea for a fic just doesn't have the chops to pull it off.
and finally,
shouldduch: When a slash-reading Yenta wants to make a match between the writer of uniporn with great writing skills (and no taste!) and the idea person who just doesn't know how to write it (yet.)
(from the Yiddish word shidduch, a match.)

Date: 2006-08-07 06:04 am (UTC)And S., I fancy it's still a party -- it's just now in that lull where people are having quiet chats in corners with occasional bursts of laughter instead of all congregating in full chortle around the canapes. ;-)
*glides away to giggle over "Parceltongue"*

Date: 2006-08-07 10:45 pm (UTC)And I had two friends in high school who would have made a great shouldduch -- one who wrote elegantly the most boring, trite, cliched fics you could imagine, and the other whose fascinating sci-fi/fantasy worlds were described in, well, teenaged boy terms. (He couldn't help it, I suppose; he *was* a teenaged boy.) If they could have just gotten together as authors.....
