Character Name: Duke
Series: Tales of Vesperia
Canon Point: Post Tarqaron battle
AU information/differences from canon:
Elucifer isn’t the Entelexeia in the friendship, Duke is. Elucifer was an influential Krityan living in the empire, and Duke a somewhat lazy Entelexeia who lived in the ocean. (Which means that Khroma was another Entelexeia who was fascinated by Elucifer, rather than related to him.)
Ages ago, when Entelexeia were worshiped, Duke tended any aer krene in the area around what is now Capua Nor and Torim, and was considered to be in charge of the ocean - from good fishing to winds and safe travel. As he lived mostly in the water - being mostly a massive snake - it became custom to drop valued trinkets in the water off the cliff at Ehmead Hill, because he more or less lived under it. This custom stayed for a while, even after Entelexeia were forgotten and sighting Duke himself in the water would usually result in panic - good luck to drop something valuable off that cliff before a voyage.
Which is how he met Elucifer - the Krityan was exploring and curious about the old tradition/superstition, and did not panic when he reached the water and found the seaserpent sunning himself.
Not much else changes from canon. Elucifer convinced Duke to take krityan form and travel with him, they explored, and they were eventually caught up in the Great War. Instead of helping aerial battles, they help supply lines, and very rarely shore-battles. Elucifer was killed protecting the entelexeia when the empire turned on them. Duke steals Dein Nomos in rage, rather than out of potential use for the blade.
Tarqaron happens because of panic and rage. He didn’t dare go to the humans to make sure they took care of a problem they brought on themselves, but he didn’t dare let it sit too long either. The Adephagos was a very clear threat of what could happen to him, as the numbers of entelexeia dwindled under what was safe for tending the aer krene. He barely manages to avoid turning into an adephagos / going mad with Aer.
Personality:
Despite being … much older, Duke isn’t terribly much different. He’s still socially clueless, fiercely loyal to and protective of his friends, and has problems letting anger cloud his mind. He’s secretive because he doesn’t know what humans will do with information, and standoffish because he remembers what happened last time he got close to a mortal.
He is more obviously curious, and does have more of a whimsical streak, as the first is how he stops being bored, and the second is expected of kritya, and he prefers not to be obviously wrong. However, he was much more hurt by Elucifer’s death - Entelexeia and Kritya can speak mind-to-mind, and the pair made use of that.
Powers/Abilities:
Shapeshift! Duke can either be in his natural Entelexeia form (a seaserpent-merman type creature, maybe 25-30 feet long), or a Krityan (about six feet tall). Anything he’s wearing/carrying as a krityan goes to Someplace that he can’t access as an Entelexeia. Shapeshifting is done in a burst of light.
Consume Magic! Entelexeia don’t really need to eat anything other than raw magic. He doesn’t even ‘need’ to eat that - he just exists to eat the magic that is out of control and raw.
Magic! He can do some magic. Mostly Water, Wind, and Light spells - although he can’t be said to be doing them as humans do magic. He uses some illusions, but those are weak unless he is in contact with water.
Basic sword use.
Rope and knots. He liked to watch fishermen, and learned some of their rope and net use out of mimicry.
Mind-speech! For anyone who is capable of receiving, for the lack of a better way to put it, Duke can talk to them without his voice, in either Kritya or Entelexeia form. (going to say non-krityan castmates won’t be able to, but you can make a good case for other characters.)
Items on your character:
Clothes. (Kritya shape)
Elucifer's Coat. (Kritya shape)
Dein Nomos. (Kritya shape)
Assorted antique and salt-ruined jewelry (Entelexeia shape only, worn on horns, hands/arms, waist, and tail)
