Good morning from our winter wonderland! It feels like I've been shoveling for days (because I have). At least I've been able to keep a small area clear for Rena's Important Business, but woooo, did we get a SNOWSTORM on Monday, about two feet. That's a lot for a hobbit my size!

The heroine has her magic. She can use it for useful tricks, such as running errands without being pestered, because she can't be seen.

THEN it occurs to me that that particular trick would be of mind-boggling importance in the politics she's involved in.

Unless I curb it.

So out come the whip and the chair. Back, ability, back! Into your cage. You are a fun trick and little more!

It's not enough to devise a background for my two main characters to have their conflict against.

I have to weave them together. In particular the timelines. The endings work together nicely, since their final happy ending is when the political situation is settled, and they are rewarded.

But several incidents on the way are just them, and no politics. They still have work together, and not as if I had set them up.

A collection of essays, including reviews, all written on occasion, for a particular book.

It produces a great variety of subjects.

Some are of period interest, of various kinds. The appropriate treatment for migraines being psychoanalysis? On the other hand, this is where I read his observation about how going over to Rome was a shocking scandal in the upper classes -- like the birth of an illegitimate baby -- but something that did happen, whereas becoming a Baptist was inconceivable.

Much about poets and other writers, some interesting observations on heroes, and more.

I know for a fact I have to fill up two years with -- stuff. Things. Happenings. Reasons why the heroine can't just cut loose and go home.

So I stare into the vacuity.

Once I invent things, a few more things appear, but it's going to have a fair amount of invention to hold the scaffolding for the structure.
