I guess that means the clock change is coming up again? I have no idea when it starts and I'm never prepared for it. If I was rich enough to be properly eccentric, I'd just ignore it.

I saw a video once about debunking bigfoot sightings. In one part they showed how a bear's footprint in the snow would melt out under direct sunlight to become a huge bigfoot-sized pawprint even while the surrounding snow was unaffected.
I was thinking about it yesterday when I was looking at the very human-looking footprints that go across my backyard to my back window. When they hit the shade of trees where they pass onto the railroad tracks they shrank into normal-sized coyote prints.
There is something else smaller roaming around back there too, it climbed down into the drainage pit and back out again. Could be a raccoon? I also saw a possum back there a couple of days ago so maybe foraging under the rocks. (Also three raccoons had a brawl on the back deck last night, I had to get out of bed to go open the window and shout at them to get them stop. Assholes. I'm even more convinced that Lord Brock is deaf, he didn't even twitch at the racket.)

I put a row of pots under the grow lamps in the kitchen, I have arugula growing like gangbusters, basil, parsley and cilantro that's looking pretty encouraging, chives and thyme that might just make it and rosemary that is threatening to die. I also have a whole bunch of spider plant babies and whenever it goes above zero outside I stick a few pots in the library out front.
Next weekend I'll start my tomato and pepper seeds.
This is how I make it through the dark winters when I really want to do is just sit in the dark and drink wine. I used to think I didn't have SAD because my brain always felt so much worse in the summer. Turns out I was just struggling to breath during the smog months.
I always have this vague plan that I'll work on interior stuff when the weather is cold but I never do. I can barely force myself to do regular housework I have such a bad case of don't wanna.
It will all resolve when it's warm enough to go stick my hands in the dirt.

There's some show on I keep getting ads for called The Empire Strips Back. It's being advertised as a burlesque show, but I'm guessing it's just a musical where the storm-troopers wear silver bikinis.
I also made the mistake of looking at a website for renting cottages in the province so now I'm getting non-stop ads for them. I swear it's not safe to go on the internet any more, and not because of the axe-murderers.

The poll closed at 149 votes with Trevor firmly in first place (27.5%), followed by Chris (21.5%), Max (13.4%), Vanessa (10.7%), Annie and Dennis (8.7%), Jonathan (3.4%), Robert and Sandra (2.7%), and Lucy (0.7%).

I'm surprised and a little wounded by my beloved Robert's unpopularity! I'm just going to have to love him hard enough for everyone. (This will not satisfy him.)
Anyway, I wrote a little snippet of the characters reacting to the results:

My immediate reaction to this was 'oh, GOD.' Awful!! I think the only one of my blorbos who I actually find sexually attractive is Robert Grove of The Goes Wrong Show, but any sexual encounter with him is guaranteed to be regrettable, and involving bondage would be catastrophic. He ties me up and then gets distracted by an argument with Chris and then rehearses without rest for several days straight, and I am left tied to his bed for seventy-two hours.
Whilst I currently answer blorbo-related polls with Robert in mind, on account of being actively insane about him, the character I usually call on for these polls is Light Yagami of Death Note. Also a terrible idea to let him tie you up! I'm not sexually interested in him, he's not going to be sexually interested in me, and, perhaps most crucially: if he does want to tie me up, it's going to be because he wants to either kill me or frame me for murder. All things considered, I'd rather he didn't.
Finally: for Valentine's Day, I posted a Valentine's message from Robert Grove.
Please accept this as an extremely belated token of my affection for all of you.

Candy Hearts author reveals!

Feb. 21st, 2026 12:11 pmrionaleonhartIt can be a real challenge to characterise the fictional members of the Cornley Drama Society, given that they spend so much of Goes Wrong canon playing other characters. Therefore, I thought I'd see if I could put together a character profile of Robert Grove.
'Are you going to write characterisation guides for the entire drama society?' No. I'll be honest: I just wanted an excuse to talk at length about Robert Grove, because he's perfect.
( Robert Grove: a character summary. )
Robert's best quality as a friend: he will give generously of his time and effort to fix your problem, or at least to fix what he has decided is your problem. This... may not actually be helpful, but it will at least be well-intentioned.
Robert's worst quality as a friend: he will sleep with your mother, insult your acting and throw you under the bus to play the Dane, and he won't even understand why you're annoyed with him afterwards.
In short, Robert is an egotistic and outspoken man with a passion for theatre, an intense sincerity, a vast capacity for self-absorption, a need to be important, a desire for company and an absolute lack of self-awareness. He's relentlessly loud and dramatic. He will refuse to apologise if he doesn't think he's in the wrong, and he will never think he's in the wrong. He's a nightmare. I love him.

Finding old fic snippets
Feb. 20th, 2026 07:54 amvriddyI remembered an old fic snippet from yonks ago, a terrible BNHA fic called Plucking that I apparently already mentioned over 2 years ago hah. This used to be a stress relief fic in which Hawks endures a no good very bad time anytime I was having a rough time. In 2023 I was apparently staging a rescue for him since I felt better, but looking at the end it looks like that might have been an hallucination, whoops. I wrote "Post anon?" in the notes because I guess it is extremely heavy on whump and angst but heh.
Anyway, it didn't seem like it had been migrated when I moved to Scrivener so I went back hunting into my 4tw files. And wow I found some other stuff that also missed the migration. Mostly written 2022-2023 if I believe my tracking spreadsheet haha. See, when I started writing I had a directory per fandom which made sense in theory, except that then I wrote like 200 fics for BNHA including several multi-chapters, and 2-10 fics for other fandoms. Things got better organised in 2024, apparently (or more like I gave up and created a new directory called BNHA (2024)), and I was good at migrating existing WIPs into BNHA (2025) when the year changed but some stuff got lost in the pre-2024 reshuffle. Several seem like 60-90% finished :0
I checked other fandoms too and found maybe one or two mostly developed concepts for Mairimashita Iruma-kun which I haven't written for since 2021 and it's making me a bit nostalgic... I think I never ended up writing up a post about it, but this was a fandom I tried the "Save The Cat" outlining method for and it utterly broke my brain and the story. Beat sheets don't work well with how I think, it seems. BUT this also reminds me I should have handwritten notes for that full outline and I wonder if I could try to revive that story, too... Like it was a fake dating OT3 and I don't know how I tried to make fake dating work for 3 people!! Maybe I can salvage the heart of it and do something with it? I haven't watched the canon in years either, apparently I stopped watching the anime in the middle of season 2... but that also kinda makes me want to catch up!! Especially since the official Mafia AU also made me nostalgic for the original characters recently. Although I seem to have paused my manga reading for that as well. I think it might be common for me to kind of drift off with "episodic"-style series, but hey maybe that means it shouldn't be too hard to pick back up either.
Anyway I find myself with more ongoing WIPs than I expected!! I think it'd be cool to slap an ending on the ones that have a good chunk written already. There's a couple that are so nearly there for BNHA that I had to check if I didn't somehow post them without remembering, despite the unfinished sentences and couple of bits with brackets lol. [ first kiss description here ].

I saw this on Reddit, but I don't know how to run it (I am not tech-savvy at all, like if you tell me what to paste into the command line I can do it but you need to hold my hand).
I tried to see if this tool could do it, but I can't get it to open (even after telling my Mac's security to let me go ahead and open it, it just bounces in the dock and disappears).
Calibre's batch-download stuff downloads files the way AO3 permits: just the work, no comments.

New Wind Breaker fic: Acting on instinct (Sakura/Nirei/Suou/Kiryuu/Tsugeura)
Feb. 18th, 2026 08:03 amvriddyAstute readers with excellent memory (or better than mine anyway XD) may remember when I lost my shit over Wind Breaker's volume 22 back in June. I basically immediately started writing this fic afterwards, which is just That Scene written from different point of views and every character individually losing it, just like I did... Lol. I'm a bit sick of trying to find an ending that is The Best Possible Ever so now that I have one that's probably good enough, let's go with it. Especially since that polyship doesn't have a ton of fic for it either, so it's nice to add one more either way.
On the plus side of going back to this story then dropping it again, the first chapters are decently edited already 😆

As this is based on the 2025 stage version of Christmas Carol Goes Wrong, be aware that some details may not match up with the original 2017 television version.
The title's not great, but the only other thing I could think of was Baby, It's Cold Inside, which would be considerably worse.

- an arrogant, wealthy, evil and very slutty fop of a sorcerer who gets Whumped Intensely by Even Worse Dudes who make Archive Warnings Apply to him, heavily
- a kind, brawny paladin who begrudgingly saves his life a lot even though they're enemies and the sorcerer kind of ruined his life
- they smooch a lot
The most recent story (which I just finished finally editing, woooo!):
- Sweet Honey, Loathsome | 20k, Complete | M/M, Explicit | Vaunted, a kind paladin, opens his door to find that his longtime enemy, the evil wizard Wrathbyrne, has been stripped of his powers and placed under a curse: Wrathbyrne has to get fucked once a day or he dies.
Previous stories, all of which are standalones that each exist in their own little universes, slightly "canon"-divergent from one another:
- Lord Wrathbyrne's Highly Unpleasant Year | 72k, WIP | M/M, Explicit | An evil wizard gets non-conned by a bunch of other evil dudes and then rescued by Fake He-Man.
- Roadside Attractions | 5k, Complete | M/M, Explicit | A cartoonishly evil wizard and his heroic, good guy foe are handcuffed together in a sitcom predicament. Then they get dosed with sex pollen.
- Reformation | 13k, WIP | M/M, Explicit | The Good Council of Good has a soft-spoken death cleric attempt to rehabilitate the evil wizard and turn him into a good man. Obviously, this is just an excuse for whump and Archive Warnings To Apply to the evil wizard, who hopes local hero, Vaunted the nice paladin, will save him. Even though the nice paladin is the one who arrested him in the first place. Oops.

And that's the end of this Three-Sentence Ficathon! It's my favourite fandom event of the year, and this year in particular I've had an incredible time with it. I ended up writing fifty-six fills, totalling just over ten thousand words; fifty-two of those fills were for The Goes Wrong Show, because I have a problem.

Feb. 14th, 2026 09:14 pmnansliceBirthday was the 13th! I'm officially 40! I do not think I have the maturity levels to be a 40 year old! I smoke too much weed and forget laundry in the wash and stay up too late just to regret it deeply in the morning. Shit's crazy. But as Guillermo del Toro said, "As a kid, I dreamed of having a house with secret passages and a room where it rained 24 hours a day. The point of being over 40 is to fulfill the desires you've been harboring since you were 7." So...idek what 7 year old me desired, but it was probably something to do with being happy, so that's what I'm aiming for.
cypher and I played Warhammer 40k: Kill Team today! They with their Plague Marines and me with my Hernkyn Yaegir team. It was a slow match at first but soon there was fierce battling. It ended up being 7 (me) to 10 (them). It was A LOT of fun and I think I learned some things. We're trying to get good enough that we can play in public, haha.
I heard ofspikedluv's passing. It's always so surreal when someone in fandom dies. Like...we're not supposed to do that? I don't know. It's strange. We were not friends but we ran in shared fandom circles and she was such a presence on DW. My heart goes out to all who knew her. <3
