I'm the cataloging librarian at the public library. It may not sound like exciting work, but this is my dream job. When I was a medical secretary in the 1990s, what I imagined I would most like to be doing is exactly what I am doing now. Well first, I decided that I definitely wanted to be on the other side of the desk. Let me tell you that there is no quicker way to become disillusioned by the medical profession than to work for doctors. Anyway, I decided that I needed that college degree afterall and when I was dreaming up exactly what I wanted for my profession, there was no comparison to becoming a librarian. So this is my second career and exactly where I want to be.
My bliss is fandom. I am first and foremost a fangirl. I LOVE teh SLASH. I did not know I was a fangirl until my first con -- Senticon in February of 2003 -- and I found my people! I always knew that I loved tv shows and movies more than most of my friends, family, and acquaintances. So, while I was a starving student living in California, my sis called me up and offered to fly me to the middle of Michigan in the dead of winter for what I had no idea. There I experienced my first fan panels and group viewing of favorite shows. I saw my first episode of Queer as Folk. I learned about these guys called Jim and Blair. We experienced the fandom Family Feud (which was a blast). And these amazing things called vids! The Rentgirls panel on vidding was a revelation! It was wonderful. So much so, I skipped my graduation ceremony for my first MediaWest con over the following Memorial weekend. And best of all we met other fangirls that we are still friends with today.
I am mostly a consumer of fandom. I love vids. I prefer fic over most fiction. I love meta discussions. And I love, love, love attending cons. My journal posts generally concern my fannish activities with occasional posts concerning my real life.
Friending: I have purposely sought out and friended my favorite fic authors and vidders. If you friend me, generally I will friend back.
