[Downtime from Atlantis is a very rare and very special thing, so guess who wants a drink. Lorne wants a drink.

He can't even remember his last holiday so there's no way he's looking left and right before he snatches one of the last free seats at the bar. No way he's waiting for waiter rounds tonight.]

[And a bar-stool next to a guy in army camo, a few specialist patches on his shoulders, notably for EOD.

He just glances at Lorne, beer in hand, taking another drink. Nope. Saying nothing.]

[Evan glances back, eyes briefly taking in the rank information and waves at the bartender for a beer.]

No time to change?

[Just ignore the big guy sat at the bar. Sure, he was wearing fatigues, patches and whatnot, but Leon's presence at this particular military-run bar was far from unnoticed.

Maybe it had something to do with the green beret slotted in the strap on his shoulder, the Union Flag and St. David's Cross badges on his other shoulder...

...Or maybe they just didn't like newcomers. Either way, he was stirring up quite a bit of muted conversation. And he doesn't look like he cares.]

[Nate's pretty good at ignoring rumours and speculations from men around him and dealing in hard facts. Some of it sinks in though and he doesn't approve of it.

He comes over to the guy intending on setting the example to some of the other men. He sticks out his hand.]

I'm Lieutenant Nate Fick.

[And Leon looks up from his drink, frowning slightly in a confused sorta way. It's not often people decide to outright come up to strangers in a bar...

...Especially if they're officers.]

Leon Cail.

[He takes Nate's hand and shakes it. His accent is, obviously, Scottish, and his rank insignia is a Sergeant's stripes with a crown sat above them. British Staff Sergeant.]

Can I help you, sir?

Brad. [Nate smiles slightly as he slides into a seat beside him. He pushes a drink across to him. It makes a change to Nate having to order his guys away from their drinks and back to a task.

He's got a beer in his other hand which is half empty.]

Are you enjoying the downtime?

( Looking up with a half-smile, lopsided and barely more than an upwards curl to one corner of his mouth, but he knows Nate can read it. )

It's a nice change from being shot at and driving into ambushes, sir. ( Which is a yes. )

[All the observation training came in handy when the Iceman smiles.]

We haven't quite left the desert behind.

[Nate points to the bit of sand in the corner that passes as a tropical island theme for the night. He heartily agrees with Brad but he knows better than to voice this in a crowded bar.]

[Okay. Yep. Nervous.

Nervous as all hell.

But this was the only place around for miles that served alcohol. And considering it was on a US deployment base, it made sense it would be packed with marines and such.

Still, deep breath, and walk further in to the bar and sit there, Alvin. This might only be your first day out here, but it doesn't mean you don't belong. Right? Right.

He's wearing a jacket that covers his patches, but he's clearly military from the fatigues on show. He sits on a stool, clearing his throat.]

A beer, please.

[And, yes, he does sound oh so stereotypically British.]

( It's damn easy to tell that the newcomer is green as fuck and doesn't really feel like he belongs and it has nothing to do with the jacket or the accent.

Well, okay, both of those are symptoms but not the cause. Brad lets his mouth twist into a half-smile. )

You're going to have half the bar jumping you if you insist on trembling like a virgin on prom night. ( And because that, too, is obvious: ) Sir.

[Okay. That might've been a small jump, there. Maybe.]

Is it that obvious?

[And he looks over his shoulder.]

And that would be a pity. They would be doing themselves out of a field medic.
