Biography
Stephen Thomas Kalyn was born on April 24, 1998 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He attended a two-year program at Hobart College for filmmaking before making the leap into acting professionally.
2020 brought Stephen his first professional role playing Brett in an episode of the series Transparent, followed by a small role as Chip in a television movie I Do, or Die – A Killer Arrangement that same year. The film follows a high school senior wanting to escape the life of Romani traditions while her parents are eager to find her a husband. His next project would come as the Lifetime Original Movie The Perfect Wedding, where he portrayed Jake Powell opposite Tenika Davis and Lydia Zadel. 2023 became a busy year for Stephen, beginning with a guest appearance on Murdoch Mysteries as Chick Harris, followed by his first recurring role in Essex County as Young Lou. The limited series follows the four characters ebb and flow into each other’s lives, slowly weaving connections between them that ultimately save and redeem them. The series, based on Jeff Lemire’s graphic novel garnered Stephen his first Canadian Screen Award nomination in the Best Ensemble Performance, Drama category with his co-stars. He portrayed Vince in his first theatrical film Cascade alongside Sara Waisglass. The thriller follows a group of teenagers who stumble upon a crashed drug plane, forcing them to outwit a ruthless gang and face an enemy far worse than drug smugglers. Warrior Strong became his second feature film as Gunnar Cedarholm, which starred Andrew Dice Clay and Jordan Johnson-Hinds.
Stephen next appeared on episodes of Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent and Accused as well as the pilot episode of Prime Video’s reboot of Cruel Intentions. He also played the role of Carl in the comedic drama Paying for It, starring Dan Beirne and Emily Lê, which holds a solid 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Holding a steady pace, he portrayed the younger version of Ryan Phillippe’s character, Logan Maddox, on one of Prime Video’s highest rated shows, Motorheads. The series follows a group of outsiders in a once-thriving Rust Belt town form an unlikely friendship over a mutual love of automobiles. Stephen also jumped in on the satrical superhero fun in the second season of Prime Video’s Gen V playing Greg, a fellow God U student. His most recent film Out Standing made its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival, following the vibrant life of Officer Sandra Perron, Canada’s first female infantry officer.
In 2026, Stephen’s next film, which stars the beautifully talented Dafne Keen, Whistle is set to release on February 6th and follows group of unwitting high school students who stumble upon an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. He portrays Mason Horse Raymore in the film. He will also breathe life into Dean [Sebastian Kendrick Heyward-]Di Laurentis, the lead character in Elle Kennedy’s third book “The Score” in the Off Campus series, which will premiere on Prime Video this spring alongside Belmont Cameli, Antonio Cipriano, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Ella Bright and Mika Abdalla.
He is the younger brother of fashion model Ashley Kalyn.
