[personal profile] squidgiepdx belongs to this comm, but he’s perpetually been some combination of sick and busy, so I’ve taken the liberty of helping him out.

He’s trying to track down a particular BTS shot from Stargate: Atlantis:

And now on to the SGA Picture part of the deal. So I wrote a quickie story for [community profile] romancingmcshep about John Sheppard's ass (the fest goes until February 28th if you're interested!) and the whole story is based on a picture that NOBODY can find anymore. I KNOW! It's frustrating! Anyway, there's what I think is a "behind the scenes" shot of most likely S01E03 "Hide and Seek" or S01E05 "Suspicion" where it's focused on Joe Flanigan's butt. Like kinda blatantly. He's kneeling on the Gateroom floor over Rodney, I believe and you can see where his t-shirt is pulled up and the waistband of his BDUs are lower - showing some skin and some of his boxers. This is what I think the camera sees in that shot, as Sheppard is kneeling like that but I remember there being a whole lot more skin. Does anyone remember a BTS photo like this? SO FRUSTRATING that I can't find it when I know I've seen it a hundred times.

hate redstone , post over .

... OK , not quite , but just can not understand how this stuff work . sometimes have ideas that feel incredibly simple , and yet can not even figure out how to wire up . know how to use commands , and that make sense - sure there can be awkward limitations even in commands , but actually just learn how to write datapack functions , simple but effective for purposes ! ... could not figure out how to power command blocks that would activate these functions , however .

code make sense , wires do not . not exactly advanced programmer , but certainly more of programmer than engineer . all of these videos that claim to teach redstone do not slow down or explain with depth that personally need . need to be sat down like kindergartener , slowly and carefully go through every single component with all of interactions and use cases , and that is not exactly minecraft redstone demographic .

struggle to follow " basic " block by block tutorials for specific machines , and especially struggle if need to change something simple like lever placement . understand nothing about this stuff , never have , and feel like never will because just get more and more complex every year . simple , basic , shut up . shut up shut up shut up .

fight to work through simple animation today and could not even feel proud when figure out , just utterly defeated . hate redstone - now post is over .

I am trying to find the source for a piece of concept art for “Nicktoons: Battle for Volcano Island” which has Jenny Wakeman in it, making it seem like she (and Jimmy Neutron) were originally intended to be playable characters. While I have the concept art itself (such as the cropped art on VGFacts and the full piece on Encyclopedia SpongeBobia, I have been having trouble finding where this art was gotten from. The VGFacts trivia post only sources a Reddit post which itself doesn’t source where it got the art from, and reverse-image-searching just got me a different Reddit post which also doesn’t say where the art’s from.

I’ve been looking into the different people credited as artists for the game, and while I have found some interesting stuff because of it, I have yet to find this specific piece of art yet. It’s making me feel like I’m missing something obvious here, but I just don’t know. Ugh.

just have this nightmare about shezow spinoff in which kelly was part of superheroine ensemble - and say nightmare because obie scott wade was not part of this show , all of characters just so much more mean spirited , and never reference guy as shezow . this was very much network attempt to erase original shezow as story of boy who grow to accept feminine role , and instead make " girl power " show that weaken points of original show , not strengthen .

like , important thing for kelly's character growth is that kelly realise not suited to be superhero in line of action - this administrative facilitator work is what kelly is best at . while this kind of work may be associated with women , especially in support of men who take that whole line of action , this is not because girl , given whole line of shezow and even other super women known in universe . this is because of personality and internal strengths and weaknesses . when guy take this for granted , kelly throw in towel and make guy realise just how important kelly is - not just anyone could be shezow's facilitator .

for this nightmare show to put kelly in that spotlight is step in wrong direction . while there still could be interesting commentary on how to operate as superheroine in society full of superheroes ... well ... guy as shezow do that too . what take away here is that facilitator role , and thus commentaries on how this role that is seen as feminine is so important - instead , this push kelly into that more action-based archetype , one that value only certain kinds of femininity . not all women need to be in action-based roles to still be vital to story and to have strong characters , and to think so is misogynistic expectation .

there was also again , just this general mean spirited tone about everything . these girls gossip and pick fights , and that serve conflicts more than actual premise - like , look at these catty teenage girls , catty like every teenage girl is ! what will these girls talk about next - boys , fashion , whine about chipped nails and ruined mascara ? no attempt at subversion or light hearted humour about these stereotypes , just present as utter truth - girls all mean and vain .

and yeah , no one in this show mention guy as shezow - guy was just kelly's brother who serve to be annoyance , like revert back to episode 1 , dig in heels and stay there . was so frustrate to have to watch even 1 episode in this nightmare , but feel obligation to try anyway just to show that support franchise , while make all of problems very clear .

fortunately , as this was just nightmare , do not need to worry about this ! feel so deeply relieved when wake up and realise .

writing an "idol anime; a history" thing will have you being like "does an idol anime have to star idols? and can an anime star idols and not be an 'idol anime'?"

(because, like, you can draw a straight line of descent from idolmaster---->utapri---->utapri descendants---->hypmic, where obviously hypmic does not star idols, but you can obviously see the shared influences and tropes and the "we, king records, are encouraging our audience to relate to these characters as they would IRL idols" thing, whereas something like perfect blue may star idols, but is fully outside that chain of descent and any attempt to analyze it through that lens will result in some truly bonkers conclusions)

thoughts about behaviour and impulse

wonder if actually capture behaviour that want to capture , because frankly do feel very petty and rude impulses sometimes , but do try to contain even if in answer to someone who is rude . know there is problem of people who outwardly act like glittery pink flower , but then act horrible in private or with little provocation , and just . really do not want to be that !

even when someone is rude , even when have impulses to snap back and snark in return ... often can not help but step back and just ask things like why did that feel that appropriate , or to give firm , almost non-answers that ask for simple acceptance . some people genuinely have no idea that these questions rude , and need push in perspective - unfortunately some people will see all non-affirmative responses as inherently rude , because never learn how to take no , but some might at least be more receptive if spell out firmly without swear words and snark .

different story if someone say truly heinous things - will just block and cut off - or if dare to return and double down . though , funnily enough find so far with this approach , that never happen . never get any sort of apology , but neither get continuation of bullshit , so maybe can mark as win ?

... but of course , sometimes still do snark and whinge with friends - and know sometimes do fail to contain , or fail to handle things in ways that feel proud of . and know sometimes people read as hostile condescension because words can be very direct , but also can not help that , can only help actual behaviour - and do sometimes just wonder if actually succeed .

Reccer’s Note: I think I'm going to like MiliSen a lot. I've seen a few of her videos, and she brings a very different sensibility to the table than most vsynth producers. For this song creator's notes discuss how she was inspired by opera and orchestra, and similar notes on other videos talk about other influences on her work. Tale of the Snow Queen brings to mind literary fairy tales and classical musical theatre (or, if you're less classy like me, Disney renaissance musicals). I don't listen to enough Eleanor Forte. I should fix that.

I had some long days at the end of this week. On Thursday I took a job that was listed as a para position in a classroom alongside a teacher and assistant. When I got there it emerged that they actually wanted me to teach a first grade class alone, last minute, without plans and with no other adult in the classroom to lean on. In a class usually run by three adults.

I did it, and no one got badly hurt. One girl got a little pencil prick and bled a bit, but that was the worst direct child-harm. The little boy who normally has his own one-to-one para needed redirection about every thirty seconds, but I managed to keep things fairly calm and tear-free while getting through all but one of the emergency make-do lessons the very kind teacher next door printed for me. One student was determinedly destructive, which eventually forced me to break a long streak of not removing students from my classrooms. I hate doing that, but I tried everything else first.

Sometimes at this job, I'm thrown into a situation where I just have to tell myself that I need to do the best I can with the skills and tools I have. From a surprise solo teaching gig with zero premade sub plans, I ended up with a roomful of alive, uninjured children and a couple stacks of semi-complete worksheets. That's not a bad result, even if I'm not as polished at lower elementary instruction as I hope to eventually become. Everything is practice.

The funniest moment of the day was when a teeny six year old boy looked down at his subtraction worksheet and back up at me, scrunched up his face, and said in his birdlike little voice, "Ms. Gremdark, why are you such a bastard?" I did a strategic lip bite to keep from laughing. It was an absolutely hilarious delivery.

Today, things worked out so that I was in the classroom directly across the hall from Thursday's, teaching K-5 music. The music teacher had planned her absence well in advance and left an absolute holy grail of sub plans. She had detailed teaching scripts for each class, bonus suggestions for if material ended early, and all kinds of supplementals to cover various contingencies. As a result things went very smoothly. I taught 5th and 2nd grade music in the morning, then saw 4th grade and Kindergarten after recess and 3rd grade just before dismissal. It was a nigh-perfect day, even with the usual shoving matches and tattling and stolen pencils. I've started bringing a little bluetooth speaker in my bag, and I use it to play a specific jazz album when classes are doing ""silent"" solo work. It's a very effective strategy, though it was no match for post-recess Kindergarten energy.

3rd grade was the most challenging. One boy repeatedly asked me if I was a virgin. "That's not a question we ask people at school, Name. Focus on your worksheet." Later in the class, the same boy asked to go to the bathroom, then flooded it. According to his teacher, he's done that several times this year.

My favorite moment of the day happened in the 4th grade class, which the sub plan had warned me would be "chatty and high energy." Sure enough, I had to raise my voice more than I prefer and separate several people. The older kids were doing a webquest about Black musicians. The jazz album brought the chattiness down to a low rumble. Then I had to spend a good fifteen minutes intervening in a situation where two girls were bullying a third girl, calling her names and trying to make her upset. It was clearly an established pattern.

I finally got the instigators separated on opposite sides of the back of the room, but by then the girl they'd been cruel to was crying. She'd already been stuck on the worksheet before the bullying picked up steam, and of course it's so hard to figure out a confusing assignment when something else is upsetting you. I sat with her for a bit and made sure she knew that I would tell her regular teacher what happened and that there would be no consequences if she couldn't finish it by the end of class. That made her feel better about taking a breather in the "calming corner." It took about twenty minutes, but she emerged with dry eyes at last and settled in to work out the tricky part of the worksheet.

Just as I was about to walk over and see if I could help without embarrassing her, two little boys looked at each other and crossed the room to talk to her. These two had previously been very high energy and done a lot of roughhousing, but now they made sure to speak quietly and kindly to their classmate. They invited her back to where they were sitting and folded her into their little group. I was touched to see how gently a previously loud and rough group of kids met their classmate's anxiety and stress with compassion. I didn't need to say a word to that group for the rest of the period. With their support, she finished the worksheet just before the end of class. I made sure to tell all three that I was proud of them before they lined up.

That's one thing I love about teaching. For every kid I see acting out cruel patterns they've adopted from adults, I see more making choices like those little boys and using the tools they have to do what they can for the people around them.

Lately I've been buying books!
A lot of books, i guess. i don't know why i suddenly started enjoying reading, but it's a good thing since now i have a better hobby instead of doomscrolling.

Although i did say i wanted to try reading to help me focus and stop doomscrolling, it was hard at first because my mental health has been kind of in shambles. but taking my meds does help me stay focused and less distracted.

Anyway, i don't think i'll read anything too crazy for now. i've just been buying a lot of english classic books and works by classic authors to get started.

i'm also planning to get more non-fiction books to diversify my reading.

I love how utterly random this week's [community profile] thefridayfive questions are 😁

When did you last . . .

1. Scrounge for change (couch, ashtray, etc.) to make a purchase?

If scrounging through my purse for exact change while waiting in the drive-thru line counts, then... yesterday

2. Visit a dentist?

Just last week actually!

3. Make a needed change to your life?

Hm... I suppose when I had to buy a new car in 2024. The transmission was going out on the old one 😒

4. Decide on a complete menu well in advance of the evening meal?

I decided on tonight's supper yesterday evening. I usually have to plan out meals in advance because otherwise I cannot find the motivation to cook. (And there's nowhere nearby to go buy food if I don't)

5. Spend part of the day (other than daily hygiene) totally/mostly naked?

I never do this 😂

woe ...

Time for the debut of the original Xbox on Gaming Hell with Gunvalkyrie, an early game for the system by Smilebit of Jet Set Radio fame, taking on the 3D action genre with an aerial-focused insect hunt. What chaos awaits Kelly and Saburouta on the planet Tir na Nog? Read on to find out! The MS Paint art for this one shows one of my favourite stages. Naglfar's Pit, which has a huge orb you have to make your way up to. How are Sarah and Sniper breathing in space? Don't worry about it.

What would be involved in setting up a fake facsimile of a VPN service to gather intelligence on a criminal organisation?

Would this essentially be a VPN where the relay saves a copy of the traffic? Everything I've found to read on the internet assumes more knowledge of tech and jargon than I have. Could a choice of servers in different countries be faked? A UI seems easy enough, but what about the ISP it connects to? If it was simply a gateway to a real VPN, would the real VPN notice? Could it at some point send a second copy elsewhere without being noticed?
Edit: (See armiphlage's post below, that's the scenario I'm going to work with, a gateway to a real VPN. Thank you armiphalge. Additional info or other suggestions also welcome.)

This could be a scheme the character is pondering near the end, so it doesn't have to work - it could simply be trying to find solutions to some of the concerns. He has a habit of staring out the window late at night mulling over such things. He really wants to be able to build a phone case with a rechargeable listening device but we've gotten lost on the physics of discretely charging it from the phone.

There's the social infrastructure to make it appear legit, website & fake reviews and social engineering to get them to bite. I've already written this for a different operation, not in great detail but enough for my purposes. If faking a VPN is feasible, I'd probably replace the existing scheme in those scenes with this one. But the marketing email may be more along the lines of "Police and governments can't subpoena a service they don't know exists" with a link to the dark web.

Edit: It doesn't need to actually work as a VPN, the character won't care about hiding the users' info. It just needs to look like one from their side of things.

Please be careful with how much detail and tech-speak you throw at me, my health is poor and I am easily overwhelmed. If this is a rubbish idea, please be kind in putting it down.

Thank you for any help.
