Character Name: Scorponok
Canon: Beast Wars
OU or AU? AU, pulled from another game called ‘TF_IC’.
Personality:
Scorponok is a minion. Since he had been protoformed, he’d been in the lower denomination of Predacon society, and that, to be honest, was the way he liked it. It was simple, clean, and he knew exactly where he belonged. The job of ‘master/leader/boss’ is currently held by Megatron, and Scorponok is slavishly loyal to him. Anyone who dares to imply that Megatron might not be the best leader to due to an attack from him, as if he let that go, then what use would he be?
Most of the time, he represses his own thoughts on Megatron, if they don’t’ fit what he thinks of as fitting how he should be thinking about Megatron. These days, without Dinobot there to shield him from the full brunt of Megatron’s anger, these thoughts are coming far more often then he likes, and he finds himself spending more and more time repressing and redirecting his thoughts and anger at Megatron. He spends time with Inferno as a sort of penitence tool- if he thinks poorly of one of Megatron’s plans, or is tempted to snark back at him, then he spends time with the ant in order to get his mind back in the proper mindset.
That said, he doesn’t bow down to everyone. He has a backbone, he just only shows it when Megatron isn’t there. He’s inclined to snarl and snark at his teammates, and he delights in shooting the Maximals, not just because he knows it brings him scant favor in Megatron’s eyes. He’s a low level sadist, and he delights in seeing his enemies cower before him. Unfortunately, he’s also a coward, and isn’t all that good at fighting. He has drones that he’s programmed, his Cyberbees, and he dotes over them, always trying to upgrade them- all in the plan to be more worthy of Megatron’s favor, of course. The problem is, he’s more than a little inept at programming AIs, and his nanotoxins don’t always do what he plans. Most of the time, they backfire on him, which just makes him all the more determined to do better next time. As such, he’s a workaholic, and he tends to forget to recharge and fuel up, which just adds to his inability at times, not that he ever connects the dots.
He’s insecure about his position as 2IC and it shows. He is always trying to push his will on his teammates, and in response, they react with disdain, as the only reason he got the rank was because he was the only loyal one of Megatron’s minions. He hates the thought of anyone betraying Megatron, and has been known to attack his own teammates at the implication that they were disloyal.
This is when he is normal. However, due to several events in quick succession in the last nexus he had been pulled to, he is now sunken into a deep depression. He is slowly working his way out of it, but the sheer shock of having the one thing he had held out for in the entire time he had been in the last nexus pulled out from underneath him, he is still mentally damaged. He is more likely to immerse himself in his work, and more likely to ignore his one needs until he collapses into emergency recharge.
History: Most of this is an extrapolation of what I know of the Cybertron’s state, the fact that things were dark enough that the X project was a government established experiment, and of his particular character. As I haven’t been able to get a hold of the Botcon exclusive comic that’s the only thing that gives any information on his past, this is probably off somewhat.
- Created by a factory owner looking to have a general maintenance tech, as his old one just worked off his creation fees and declined to renew his contract
- Worked off fees in the usual five stellar-cycles
- Renewed contract due to lack of any other options
- First heard Megatron’s anti-Maximal sentiments at a rally three stellar cycles into his renewed contract
- Finishes contract, goes to a community college to certify as a CR tech
- Joined Megatron ten solar cycles later
- Meets Dinobot, has the odd feeling that something’s wrong with how he interacts with Megatron, suppresses feelings on issue as Megatron Can Do No Wrong
- Comes across Dinobot in the aftermath of one of his and Megatron’s ‘spats’. Offers to help, but is turned down
- His contract is up and he declines to renew it and moves into Megatron’s base to work for him full time
- Starts to work on learning how to program nanoviruses and drones
- Twenty ‘fights’ and three moves up in the hierarchy later, his usual offer to help Dinobot is accepted. Still unaware that this is anything out of the normal Predacon fights is occurring
- Is subjected to watching one of Dinobot and Megatron’s ‘fights’, finally realizes that there is no way that this is anything healthy, but too long has passed for him to accept that Megatron could ever be in the wrong about something, so he starts to repress this feelings and emotions full time
- Two fights later, stops offering to help Dinobot, convinced that it’s no more than Dinobot deserves
- Megatron’s followers start to leave
- Megatron starts planning the theft of the Golden Disc
- They steal the Golden Disc, escape Cybertron in search of the energon that the Disc is supposed to lead to
- Crash land on a jungle planet that turns out to be prehistoric Earth
- Dinobot leaves Megatron’s commend, Scorponok is installed as 2IC in his absence.
- More of Megatron’s anger falls on him, Terrorsaur, and Waspinator now that Dinobot isn’t there to take the brunt of it. Scorponok starts to truly resent Dinobot, as he can’t let himself hate Megatron
- Inferno is reprogrammed from the blank protoform he had been, adding another to the Predacon’s numbers
- Scorponok starts to become friends with Inferno, as he is the only other one who is truly loyal to Megatron
- Inferno grows in Megatron’s esteem
- The Alien installation on the second mood explodes due to Megatron’s meddling, and the resulting backlash destroys much of the Predacon ship, the Darksyde, and sends Scorponok and Terrorsaur falling into lava, killing them.
This is the point where he was pulled into the last game, mere seconds before he fell into the lava.
- Pulled into the nexus
- Waspinator beats him over the head with the truth about Megatron. As they were the only two there and Vortex was on another comm. line making noises about how if his leader treated him that way he wasn’t that good of a leader, he eventually faced his mental insecurities and gave in to the truth.
- Adopts Vortex as a form of replacement leader in his grief.
- Join Vortex and Cyclonus in the Decepticon ‘base’, becoming a makeshift medic and tech for them, gaining energon in return.
- Befriends Rumble.
- Inferno shows up, he and Scorponok fight, then settle into a temporary truce
- Vortex and Rumble get themselves thrown in the brig, and Scorponok downgrades Vortex mentally from ‘leader’ to ‘co-worker’.
- Scorponok upgrades Cyclonus to ‘leader’ status, then gets beaten up in the process of testing his limits, sealing Cyclonus in as his leader.
- Realizes that parts show up randomly when he needs them, develops the theory of the Royalty Beyond the Royalty.
- Inferno and Scorponok develop an on-again-off-again friends-with-benefits relationship
- Starts to make technology for Generation One!Megatron
- Settles in as his role of impromptu medic for the group, mostly just patching things up until self-repair can deal with it properly
- Inferno moves into the Decepticon base, truce is upgraded to permanent
- Vortex comes in, hands mangled almost beyond repair, rotors shredded, Cyclonus looming behind him. Scorponok mistakes this as punishment gone horribly wrong, and plots to escape, taking Inferno and Vortex with him. His escape attempt works, however Cyclonus soon catches up with them. As punishment, Scorponok had his drone implant and missile housings ripped out, and was locked in the medbay until further notice.
- Befriends another of Cyclonus’ outcasts, Ransack
- Puts together a CR chamber
- Offers his aid in putting together the Wind Turbine Project
- Through a combination of Inferno being subtle and Scorponok being oblivious, their ‘friends-with-benefits’ turns to something more serious that neither are able to define, as both as still twisted inside over their Megatron.
- Scorponok is released from house arrest
- Befriends a psychotic cannibal, mostly though being more interested by how it works in a energy consuming species, than with the moral implications
- Repression starts again, Scorponok starts to think of Megatron as someone he would be willing to have around, again.
- ‘Finds’ a cyberbee drone, implants it again, then hides it in the back of his closet, not going to let Cyclonus know he has one again
- Around a month later, his Megatron appears, weakening his position with Cyclonus even more and fulfilling the one thing that he had been holding as a goal in the darkest corner of his mind- survive until Megatron returns and all will be well
- Scorponok is taken fully with Megatron’s charisma, as is Inferno, and all is well
- A week later, Megatron vanishes again
- Scorponok and Inferno plummet into depression
- Scorponok pushes himself into his work completely, ignoring all else
And here is where he is being pulled into this game. I feel that the shock of the transition would be enough to jar him out of his depression for a while.
Strengths: He’s very determined. Should a thing need to occur, he will make it occur on time, or he will fall to pieces trying.
He’s loyal to a fault, if you have his loyalty; you will have it for far longer than is sane.
He has a bond/technopathy/ability to commune to his drone cyberbee. His cyberbees are not anything more than rudimentary AIs, but he’s able to connect to them to give them basic orders/take over completely as a projection of himself. As a robot this is not as amazing as one might think, and once upon a time, most people had one.
He can shoot missiles from one claw, host a cyberbee in his other, shoot cybervenom from his scorpion tail, transform into an oversized scorpion, see into infrared and ultraviolet, and all of this is normal for his kind.
Oh, and he can use those massive claws to make tech because he’s just that practiced.
Weaknesses: Huge honking claws and a tail in the middle of his upper back. Not the most graceful of Transformers.
Not all that smart in the brain pan, or the fastest either. Surprise him, and you’ll have a blank stare of confusion for a few seconds while he thinks over what just happened.
Coward. Major, major, coward. If he has to choose between maintaining the status quo or fighting for something, he’ll hang back and attempt to do both. Unless, of course, he’s ordered to do something by Megatron, in which case he’ll do whatever’s needed.
He has horrible taste in leaders. It’s bad enough that he’s essentially a born minion, but he makes it worse in that he has the worst taste in leaders. First he chose Megatron, who was a psychotic charismatic sadist. Then he chose Vortex, who’s a psychotic masochic. Then he chose Cyclonus, who’s a minion who plays the part of a leader well. And he’s also a psychotic sadist.
He holds grudges forever, and usually depends on propaganda to tell which ones to hold. Yes, things were bad on Cybertron. Yes, they were second hand citizens, and yes, it was difficult to get in a good academy, or any for that matter, if you were a Predacon. However, that does not mean that they were slaves, that there were riots on the streets daily, and that all Maximals got a kick out of seeing them struggle. Only ones like Ratrap were like that.
When he’s under a lot of stress, he falls into third person. This level of stress is fairly well defined as ‘being trapped in a half collapsed ship without protection against a cannibal who would love nothing more than to eat him’.
First Person Sample:
[Scorponok sways, slightly, then reset his optics, looking around in dim confusion. Hadn’t he just been at his workbench? He had been working on something. He didn’t quite know what it was, but it had to have been important. His thoughts move sluggishly as they moved outside the parameters he had imposed on them when he had started to work.] What the frag?
[He turns to one side, then the other, looking around in dim confusion as his mind slowly skittered out of the programming. This wasn’t the medbay, it wasn’t even the Decepticon Base. Almost unconsciously, he attempts to call Inferno for help, but there isn’t an answer. He steps back, trying to comm. Cyclonus, Vortex, Rumble, Terrorsaur, Sinnertwin, Waspinator, someone, anyone- He hits the wall. He slides down slowly to a huddle, knees tucked against his chest. He sends out another comm, then cuts it off harshly before it has a chance to even attempt to ping off the intended recipient.]
No no no no no…
[He braces his claws against his head, trying to cut off the thoughts of Him before they formed.]
Third Person Sample:
Scorponok’s optic band was on, his attention evidently riveted on the fight before him, but in truth he wasn’t seeing the fight in the slightest. He had learned this trick stellar cycles ago, how to seemingly be seeing whatever’s in front of you, but blocking the signal from his optic band before it hits his processor. It shamed him, to have to fall so low as to be using this trick, but it was better than the alternative, better than seeing the sheer damage Megatron was dealing out on his second in command.
Unable to pay attention to the fight in front of him, he turned his remaining senses on the bots next to him. Terrorsaur to his left, he was the only one who bothered to use that particular scented polish. Beyond Terrorsaur was most likely Waspinator, the Terrorsaur’s trinemate. He could hear faint buzzing, as if the glitched mech was talking to himself softly. On his other side was, by process of elimination, Jigsaw, the only medic that had remained with them this long. Jigsaw had been in the command room for his latest status report on the health of their troops when the fight had broken out. From the slight movements in the air, the medic was flinching slightly with each blow. This must be his first time, seeing this sight. Dimly, Scorponok hoped that this wouldn’t be what ended up driving him off, although the CR chambers would repair the damage just as well as a medic would, they used more energy, and took far longer.
A particularly loud crash and crunch signified the end of the fight, and Scorponok reactivated the flow of information. Dinobot laid next to the wall, looking like he was trying to gather the energy to sit up, to get himself to the CRs. He looked no worse than he usually did, and, in fact, looked somewhat better than he usually did after these sessions, Megatron must have been feeling lenient. He saw out of the corner of his optic Jigsaw hesitating, looking between Dinobot and Megatron, and then started to move slowly towards Dinobot. Megatron didn’t seem to notice, and Scorponok turned away from the scene entirely, turning his attention back to the machine he had been fixing.
Such was life in Megatron’s base, and Dinobot had been asking for it with that comment, anyway.
