I've spent the evening happily devouring the Yuletide offerings in my favourite fandoms, and I'm sure I'll come back with a much bigger rec post in about a week or so. But this particular story COULD NOT WAIT. It's just one of the very best things I've ever read.

If you're familiar at all with X-Factor (comic book, not singing talent show) you'll be stunned by how brilliantly in character this is. The voices, the motivations, the relationships, THE TEAM DYNAMIC - if reveals show that this fic was written by Peter David himself I won't be even slightly surprised. It's that spot-on perfect. The mix of action, mysticism, friendship, romance and humour are all why this is my favourite comic ever, and it's all done so very very well.

It's no secret that I ship Theresa/Monet like FedEx, and this fic turns the currently hopeless state of that relationship on it's head and provides a wonderful (and so believable!) solution. And this is probably the only Moneterry (no idea if that's the actual shipname or I just made that up, but I think I'm keeping it) that I've ever read in which Monet's past with Theresa's father is called into play. The scene with Sean Cassidy (one of my favourite characters in the history of characters) honestly brought tears to my eyes. And it's just one of a million things I could point to that shows how very well this author knows these characters.

So if you like X-Factor, please read this. If you like femslash, please read this. If you just feel like a well-written, clever, spooky romance, you should be reading this right now!

It's Cas/Meg, and somehow manages to be fluffy, sweet and romantic while remaining totally in character. Dean's voice is perfect and Sam and Gabriel are adorable.

Check it out; you won't regret it!

In an attempt to get back into the LJ thing without doing any actual work (because what do you take me for, a productive human being or something?) I'm introducing a weekly, or whenever the hell I feel like it, vid rec post.

The reasons for this are twofold.

1) There are a lot of absolutely brilliant things on youtube that aren't watched enough and are getting way less love than they deserve.

2) I can watch a vid in 3 minutes which is basically the duration of my attention span for anything other than ogling Jensen Ackles' ass. And a weekly Jensen's ass review would get old pretty fast. A year or two, tops.

So my first rec is Love Story, by Lashings of Ginger Beer Time. It's a creative reworking of Taylor Swift's Love Story that actually gives some indication of why the love between the characters is forbidden (it's reimagined as a queer romance), improves immensely on the lyrics (I have no idea what Swift meant by saying she was "the scarlet letter" and that always bugged the hell out of me) and actually made me tear up a bit at the end. As a vid, there's not a lot going on; it's just a good recording of a live performance. But the sound quality is good, the singer is talented, and it's unbelievably heartwarming.

Hi folks!

My gift at the spn het exchange was posted today, and I've got to say it's just incredible. Totally believable characterisation of both Ellen and John, and such beautiful, lyrical writing. I love those stories where certain sentences are just so beautifully crafted that they're almost poetry, and this so very qualifies.

And though my lj might claim I'm just here for the porn, I didn't even miss it in this case. I guess on occasion I'm here for the UST!

Seriously, it's short and won't take alot of your time, and you definitely won't regret it!
