1st Shot [action/video]
action - for Zatanna Zatara and Billy Kaplan;
[Okay, to say that this so wasn't what Kate expected to wake up to was an understatement. Sprawled on her soft and deep couch in her nice, if not messy, SoHo apartment on West Broadway while her sister stole her bed after a night of dinner and clubbing? Yes. In the middle of a forest floor surrounded by chirping and chattering animals like something out of a sick Disney movie? Hell no.
Get a grip, Katie.
Maybe she had more to drink last night than she realized. It's not as if she or Susan were exactly paying all that much attention to their tabs. Not when the night had been Suze's treat; their wild spending causing bouncers to look the other way when it came to Kate's ID. But she had balanced her alcohol with food and water. Just in case the Boss needed her. Letting a hangover get in the way of superheroing was just poor form.
So, not a hangover.
And hey, didn't the weather call for cold and flurries today? Definitely not hot, sticky, and sunny like the Fourth of July.
She stood a second or two later, looking around her as she lifted her arms over her head and stretched. ...that felt strange. Really strange.]
Hell of a dream you're having. [She looked down with a frown, taking in the simple white shift that didn't look like anything she actually owned. Cautiously, she took a step or two forward and looked around. Creek, trees, and not a single skyscraper in site.] Looks like we're not in Kansas anymore.
video/action - A Shot in the Dark;
[Sometime that evening...
Showered and cleaned, dressed in normal clothes, and finally clued in, Kate sat at the counter in the coffee shop sipping at a vanilla latte as she stared at the book. It wasn't exactly Ninth Street Espresso but hey, at least it contained caffeine. For what seemed like the umpteenth time, she flipped through the journal pages yet again before finally giving in and turning on the little camera.
She held up the mug in a quick salute and gave a quick, wry grin.]
Y'know, as prisons go, this one's definitely going to extremes to keep up the masquerade of resort village. Shops and restaurants and night clubs, oh my.
So... what exactly do people do here for fun?

Being downgraded from her NYC lifestyle against her will? So not cool.]

Seriously, after this? She's staying in her nice air conditioned apartment until someone puts on a real fireworks display, or she runs out of soda. Whichever comes first.
She's making her way to the creek--yes, it's hot enough for her to want to splash her face--when she hears someone talking nearby. Something about Kansas? Wait...]
Heh. Pretty sure I said something like that when I got here. [Although she doesn't know where the person is, Zatanna calls out loudly enough to be heard as he tries to make her way toward the voice. No point in freaking out the newcomer anymore than they're already going to be.]
[action]
Either this dream just got weirder or she's not alone here.
Better to be safe than sorry. And it wasn't as if this would be the first strange encounter in her life. The voice could be friend or foe. Her attention was immediately diverted from the tree to the rest of the surrounding area. She didn't exactly have her bow or knives here. So, as quietly as possible, she slunk into one of the nearby bushes.
At the very least, she could find some sort of advantage over any possible opponent.]

Hey there! What can I do for you?
Action
Pretend you didn't see. It's for your own sake, Kurt.
For that matter, pretend you don't see that flicker of surprised recognition in her eyes. Two years ago, there might have been a little fangirling. But after facing off the X-Men and working with Clint on a regular basis? She can play it smooth.
She holds up the empty mug.] Nice trick. Do the refills appear in a flash, too?

He slips on an apron when he arrives, going to stand behind the counter so he can look busy while he people watches. New Feather season is upon them after all.]
[Action]
Eventually, her attention narrows in on the most recent arrival. An employee by the look of it, and a very familiar one at that. Also? Not a very good one, given how he's ignoring both her and her somewhat empty cup. Unsurprising, really, given who it is.
So, cue some staring right back at ya. Let's see how long it takes you to get a clue, Clint.]

[The voice doesn't come out of Kate's journal, but from the redhead behind her. Natasha's seated at one of the nearby tables, absently tapping a pencil against the corner of a logbook. Just because profit's not a concern here doesn't mean she doesn't still have paperwork to maintain. And a supply room to keep stocked. Once she figures out what they're going through faster than other things.
Still, she overheard the question and glanced over at the young woman, someone she'd spotted when she came in earlier, although this is the first time she draws attention to herself. Her lips curve faintly as she glances over at her.]
This isn't exactly a bustling hotspot, I'm afraid.
[Action]
Seriously, what is this? The new Avengers HQ or something?]
Yeah. I've noticed. [Kate stands from the counter and walks over to the table, mug in hand. She glances briefly at the logbooks and then back at the woman again.] I thought this whole place had some sort of weird Marxist free-for-all situation going on.

[She asks as she picks up the book with both hands and angles it to the side as if in doing so, an image would appear. When none does, she shrugs and props the book against a sugar canister so it can continue recording on her end.]

I spend my mornings at the clinic and I train in the afternoons. There is a hot springs as well. From what I understand, many people fill their days with things they are most familiar with.

Allow me to tell you what people do for fun in the village called The Village. Fun can range from actual fun activities like riding a horse or making oodles of pies to less fun activities like going on drafts and being experimented on.
Now you know the skinny of it.
Huh.]
Concise and to the point. Looks like you've got a budding future in journalism.

So he goes to the clothing store and finds not only the costume he remembers seeing on her, but a couple of sets of clothes that he knows will fit her (call it a shapeshifter thing), and a costume that he knows would look awesome on her.
Once he's done, he goes to the room above his and Billy's, his boyfriend having told him that that's where Kate decided to shower, and knocks on the door. Can't just go barging in and all.]
