⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Morrigan
Age: Unknown (twenties)
Canon: Dragon Age
Canon Point: Post "Witch Hunt"

Background: here
It probably goes without saying, but with her canon point, the Dark Ritual did take place. Therefore, she may have a child that she is hiding.
Personality:

Morrigan certainly acts antagonistically but she is not a villain, per se. After all, she helps fight the Blight and doesn't even complain (too much). However, she has and will always put herself — safety, priorities, intentions — before anyone and anything else.

She is snide, clever, and witty. There are very few times Morrigan can be caught off her guard, as she seems to have a response for everything. The only time she really finds herself speechless is when it comes to warm, fluffy emotions. This is because she is not used to them. She has certainly never felt anything like "love" from her mother Flemeth, who raises daughters to do her bidding and then become her next body, and all of her life was spent in the Korcari Wilds where most of her companions were animals. Therefore, she knows very little of things like friendship, generosity, or kindness. However, she does not long for these things either.

Growing up she faced many dangers and was taught well by Flemeth that their kind were unwanted and terrible things would happen to them if they were caught. Therefore Morrigan has grown to resent mankind. For the most part, she can't stand other human beings. She either finds them dull or their beliefs misguided, thus making them stupid or cruel (or both). She does a little better with elves (not much), and has no real feelings one way or another about dwarves, either. It is wild animals (not domesticated ones) that she feels that she can relate to the most. Whether or not this is actually true doesn't matter to her. At least, she didn't think so until she made a friend out of the Grey Warden she joined up with. Deep down, Morrigan is innocent, in a way. She knows little about the world and never ventured far from home until the forth Blight came along.

Morrigan's words can be biting and she is unapologetic. If she hurts someone's feelings, she probably considers them weak for being bothered by it. However, she herself does not like to be patronized or pitied. She also does not like to be coddled. She has her own vulnerability but she will fight tooth and nail around it before ever admitting it herself. The best way to get along with her is to be just as witty and silver-tongued as she (but never sarcastic in the really important moments).

There is a dreamier, somewhat more romantic side of Morrigan, though she rarely lets anyone see this or else denies its existence. Part of her longs to know more about the human world. It's a part of her that she gained as a little girl, when once she saw a beautiful woman with a beautiful hand mirror that Morrigan desired. Flemeth broke her away from those idle fantasies ... however her curiosity remains. Deep down inside. She is also a fan of wild tales involving the witches of the wilds and other lore in the world of the game. This too she will deny outright. She will claim that her hobbies are actually wreaking suffering upon others (especially Alistair) and simply studying magic.

Both hobbies are true indeed, but especially the latter. You could even go so far as to say Morrigan might be obsessed with magic — or rather, the idea of power. She desires it more than anything. She wishes to become even more powerful than Flemeth herself, and even goes so far as to ask the Warden to slay Flemeth so that she may unlock her mother's secrets. And in the very end of her tale, her love for the Warden is genuine but inconsequential. She still left them and went off in pursuit of her ambitions. Even offering to save the Wardens' lives through her ritual, she has her own plans in mind. Granted, she does appear to have some semblance of desire to raise the child that she bears correctly, and to keep him or her safe. She softens up quite a bit (never losing her sharp tongue, naturally), but never lets her intentions dull for the sake of friendship or love.

In many ways, Morrigan is very dangerous because of this. She genuinely comes to like and care for her companions, but she is resolute in her goals and thus could and would betray anyone at the drop of a hat in order to achieve them. She has grown up taking care of herself and learning how to survive in a world that is terrible to mages and even worse to apostates like herself. While her walls may crumble down bit by bit, they still shield her heart heavily and thus make her difficult to ally with.

What her end game actually is remains unknown as of the moment. Aside from her desire for power, of course. Those with power will survive. But Morrigan has always wrapped herself in a shroud of mystery. She does not like to speak much of herself if she can avoid it, and even when she does, she never tells the whole story. In a way, that protects her from being hurt or disappointed. It also adds to her allure but keeps others at bay so they will not become an obstacle to her pursuits.

Abilities: Morrigan is a powerful mage (or "witch" as she's more often referred as). She can use magical spells and also shapeshift. Known forms are Cat, Wolf, Bird (she mentions these in her dialogues), and Bear, (giant) Spider, and a "flying swarm" of bugs (all shapeshifter abilities in the game). She has knowledge in Herbalism and can create salves and the like. She also implies that she knows the recipes to at least 15 different poisons.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

First Person Sample: test drive

Third Person Sample:
Moments ago, Morrigan was standing in the Dragon Wastes. She had fought long and hard to get there, perhaps even imagined that she would get there alone. However, she wasn't entirely surprised to see that the Warden had followed her. That's how they were, infallible even when told not to attempt finding her. But she had no time to waste in idle thoughts about a friend she had made and then willingly given up. Besides, their paths may yet cross again after all. Only in the far future if she could help it.

For now, she bade her first and truest friend farewell and turned back to the giant mirror standing before her. The Eluvian, a magical artifact that was her key in getting where she wanted. Without looking back again or speaking another word, she activated it and paused only to feel the great power eminating from within it. And when she finally stepped through ... she found herself in a land far from where she had intended.

What? She questioned herself as her shoes scuffed against solid ground. Turning her head she found that even the Eluvian had vanished from behind her. "This is not right, is it?" More importantly, this was not how it was supposed to work. Her magic could not have made any mistake, she was certain. And that Eluvian was not tainted and evil as one of its siblings was. Perhaps she was dreaming ...? But then, Morrigan did not dream. Dreaming was for little girls in pretty castles shielded from a dirty, coldhearted world. And while Morrigan may have helped save and then escaped that world herself, she was not certain that she was glad to be in this one now...
