DAMASCUS, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- A powerful explosion heard across the western outskirts of Damascus on Thursday morning was caused by a controlled detonation of war remnants, local media reported.
Damascus' takeover of the al-Hol camp followed talks on Sunday between President Ahmed al-Sharaa and SyrianDemocratic Forces (SDF) leader Mazloub Abdi, in which the two agreed that the government would take over responsibility for IS prisoners.
DAMASCUS – Syrian government troops thrust deeper into areas held by Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria on Tuesday, Syrian military sources said, pressing rapid gains against Kurdish fighters who vowed to defend their remaining enclaves.
They appear to be in control of al-Hol camp as of Tuesday afternoon... On Tuesday, the SDF accused "Damascus-affiliated factions" of cutting off water supplies to the al-Aqtan prison calling the move a "blatant violation of humanitarian standards." ... .
The latest SDF-Damascus agreement took effect on Tuesday evening, and came after Kurdish-led forces lost control of Raqqa, Deir e-Zor and parts of Hasakah provinces to the country’s transitional government in the span of less than a week.
