Maybe I Can Fool Myself
Say life is a road.
It changes with time, from multi-laned stretches to single-laned doozies.
It has a start and an end, though impossible to see often.
Sometimes it slows to a sluggish 15 mph, sometimes it speeds to a breathtaking 75 mph.
But it continues, nonetheless.You can see an intersection, a crossroads further down at the horizon.
After following the singular, lonely highway for so long, you don’t particularly care to decide which direction to take.
You try to avoid it as you may, taking several detours, unsuccessfully, or slowing down, disturbing all traffic behind.
Of course you can’t make a U-turn, that would be time travel.
But...

A lack of inspiration,
A lack of motivation,
A lack of determination:The most crippling of times,
When one has lost direction,
Lost their passion.Creativity hurts,
Logic consumes.
What is real? What is not?Figments of the imagination,
Concepts derived by the human mind:
This is the life we lead.The heart, the mind,
They all mean nothing
Within the scheme of the universe.Why hope? Why pray?
No one is there to hear,
No one is there to care.If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there,
Does it make a sound?
