Knoxville: The perfect blend of small town charm and big city improvements

Knoxville is located in East Tennessee with beautiful lakes, rivers, hills and mountains. It is also home to a technology corridor, numerous higher education opportunities, an active city life style with bistros, symphony, ballet, opera, museums, sports, festivals and an afterhours live music culture. It is a perfect blend of Southern small-town charm and big-city opportunities. The third largest city in Tennessee is home to nearly 200,000 residents and Knox County has over 430,000 residents.

If you like to keep it moving you will enjoy the 65 miles of greenway trails winding through the city and county, making Knoxville a playground. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is an hour away with 800 miles of maintained trails for a great cardio workout in one of nature’s prime examples of flora and fauna. Shop ‘til you drop in Pigeon Forge at the outlet shopping haven or spend a day at Dollywood and take a ride on the 21 story Wild Eagle, America’s first wing coaster! Back in Knoxville, there is always a meet, match, or game to watch on the University of Tennessee’s campus, or you could catch either the Smokies minor league baseball team or the Ice Bears professional hockey team play in local venues.

If you enjoy dining out, Knoxville has more restaurants per capita that cater to all budgets than any other city in the United States. There are also plenty of places to enjoy the nightlife and to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere at Market Square or in the downtown area. Entertainment is easy to find, either at the Tennessee or Bijou Theatres. Both facilities offer well-known musical acts, stage productions, and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra calls the Tennessee Theater home. The Rossini Festival in April is a fun, family salute to opera. Knoxville also offers many fun annual festivals and events. Boomsday, held during Labor Day weekend is one of the largest firework shows in the Southern United States, and the Dogwood Arts Festival highlights the spring beauty of one of Tennessee’s natural wonders, the dogwood tree.

A getaway weekend is easy on the open roads of three main interstates, I-40/75 and I-81. Travel to Atlanta in less than four hours, Nashville in under three hours, and Asheville, NC in two hours.
