We gain on average 800 new followers per year, but in the last year (since before Linus made the GenAI-code-in-Linux posts) we gained around 1200.

It's great to see the wave of new interest. We're a community that's had 30 years to develop its culture, and things here might work a little bit differently than you expect. But don't let that discourage you from getting involved. This mastodon-account-manager first became a developer in 2018, and it's easily one of the best things she ever did.

If you are sad about having missed my tutorial introducing users to the compatible version control system at two weeks ago, you can download the full tutorial instructions and work through all the same steps as people did in the room with me:

In this blog post I explain how I've replaced on a dedicated partition freebsd by voidlinux-zfs.
Everything started by a blog post of Stefano on that topics. Many thanks to him 😉
Finally i have much better drivers for my laptop and still ZFS.

Recovering and reminiscing on an incredible #EuroBSDCon 2026 in Brussels, Belgium! 🇧🇪 😥

What a week! Over 234 attendees, 48 brilliant speakers, and 14 amazing sponsors came together to celebrate all things #BSD. The energy was #BSD, deep dives into tech, inspiring talks, and those hallway conversations that spark new ideas and collaborations.

Huge shout-out to the video crew who made sure every moment was captured, and to everyone who traveled near and far to be part of this vibrant community. Whether it was hacking, learning, or just geeking out over #BSD, the connections made here are what make this event so special.

Brussels, and the incredible Organizing Committee, you were the perfect host! Already counting down to the next one in Bratislava!

Did you attend? What was your highlight? 👇

We are collecting as much as possible on: 2026.eurobsdcon.org/wrapup.html

I just attended a great talk by @stefano about disaster recovery (with capitals)… One cannot give enough credit to his wife for the support she gave during the whole process.
This is very often forgotten…

It was really an honor to follow the Kirk's training at @EuroBSDCon, to have interesting anecdotes during breaks. 😉
The scoop ... A new version of the book is under preparation 👍

If person coming at Brussels this week, for example eurobsd 😉, have questions concerning Brussels, do not hesitate to ask.
I can try to help you.

Hello @stefano ,

Interesting article concerning void Linux on zfs.
Since BSD are still difficult on my laptop, I would try it.
I currently have one zfs for freebsd, another one for ghostbsd and a normal filesystem for openbsd. All served by refind.

Do you think I can follow your article to replace freebsd by voidlinux on zfs?

What are your advises?

10 years of blogging 👍 I'm doing a quick review of all elements I'm using since the beginning, what I've stopped and why.

I'll be available on Friday for sessions. Which sessions is strongly recommended for a guy like me who is doing a bit of bhyve, zfs, pf, got ... by my self. (But got is Thursday)
