1 month - In today's Daily Fix:Sony's first State of Play livestream since announcing the end of physical disc production went about as well as one might expect. The livestream was for the Sony-published Phantom Blade Zero, and in a gutsy move, comments were left on for both the YouTube and Twitch streams. The chat was filled with comments like 'No Disc No Buy' and similar sentiment from gamers still upset at Sony's decision to stop making physical copies of first-party games in 2028. Despite the fervent pushback, Sony has not announced any plans to change course. In related news, Control: Resonant's physical release has been delayed to October 15th. The digital release will drop as scheduled on September 24th. And finally, industry legend Warren Spector has announced his retirement from game development.

By drafting in action movie megastar and martial arts master Donnie Yen to serve as co-producer on its wuxia-inspired action RPG, the Chinese developer is ensuring that every kick, punch, and scintillating sword-slice is delivered with the utmost authenticity and heart-stopping intensity.In 2025, IGN was fortunate enough to be invited over to S-Game’s Shanghai studio to get an insight into its groundbreaking approach to kung fu motion capture, and to speak with both creative director Soulframe Liang and Donnie Yen himself. It was genuinely spectacular to see Donnie’s team in action, pulling off a breathtaking series of dazzling wirework stunts and daring martial arts moves, but it wasn’t until I saw a stunt performer juggling a baby on the blade of his sword before launching it into the air that I knew I was witnessing something truly crazy and totally creative.As it turns out, Donnie Yen wasn’t just playing a vital role in the creation of Phantom Blade Zero, he was helping to usher in an exciting new way of mo-capping action in games. In Phantom Blade Zero, you play as Soul, a warrior with only sixty-six days left to live. Fend off assassins, unravel world-ending conspiracies, and defend your values with your life. The new trailer unveils that the pre-order and 11-minute trailer will be coming on August 11 at 7 PM Pacific Time / August 12 at 10 AM Beijing Time. Phantom Blade Zero will be available on PC and PlayStation 5 (PS5).
