Report: Friedrichshafen HAM RADIO exhibition 2026

This year’s Friedrichshafen booth was busier than ever, with noticeably higher visitor traffic than last year. Many visitors encountered M17 and the wider open-source amateur radio ecosystem for the first time. The Nokia 3310 demonstration running OpenRTX+libm17 proved to be an excellent conversation starter, while the LinHT display allowed visitors to explore the project’s evolution and preview the upcoming Revision C hardware.

M17 Foundation at the Friedrichshafen exhibition

M17 Foundation will have a booth at the international amateur radio exhibition in Friedrichshafen on 26-28 June 2026. Location: A1-690.

As always, OpenRTX will have their own booth, right adjacent to ours. See you in Germany!

“M17” logo granted trademark protection in China

The M17 logo has been officially granted trademark protection in the People’s Republic of China. The protection was confirmed by the China National Intellectual Property Administration and formally notified to the World Intellectual Property Organization under the Madrid System.

M17 Conference 2025 – summary

The international M17 Conference 2025 took place last weekend (Sep 6-7) in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, Poland. It was an honor for us to welcome guests from abroad: Sweden, Czechia, Germany, Austria, Greece, and the USA. We all had a great time interacting with each other, presenting and exchanging open-source radio related ideas.

M17 Foundation Rebuttal to Jonathan Naylor G4KLX Statements Regarding…

On July 12, 2025, in the OpenDV forum, Jonathan Naylor G4KLX announced that support for M17 had been removed from Multi Mode Digital Voice Modem (MMDVM) package – apparently some days earlier.

Thus, when this change went into effect, it was sudden and unannounced. Because many MMDVM units automatically update with Naylor’s updates to MMDVM (to automatically patch security issues, bugs, etc.), Naylor’s removal of M17 broke the functionality of MMDVM hotspots and modems (such as used in repeaters) to operate M17.
