Do I need an API key?
No. There is no third-party compression API and no monthly image quota from Squeeze. Processing stays on your site / in your admin browser.
Are my images uploaded to your servers?
No. Image bytes are not uploaded to Squeeze’s servers for compression. That helps with privacy and GDPR-sensitive setups.
How does the plugin work?
Squeeze compresses images in your browser with Web Workers and open-source codecs (MozJPEG, Browser Image Compression for PNG, WebP and AVIF — the same family as Squoosh.app). You can squeeze from the Media Library, run Bulk or Directory Squeeze, or compress on upload in supported editors.
Can Squeeze convert images to WebP?
Yes. Enable Direct WebP conversion (recommended) under Basic Settings to replace JPG/PNG with .webp on disk and save storage. You can also use legacy modes that keep originals and store WebP under wp-content/squeeze-webp/ with HTML rewrite or .htaccess delivery.
Does Squeeze work with WP Offload Media?
Yes with Direct WebP — converted files sync to S3, GCS, DigitalOcean Spaces, and similar providers via WP Offload Media. The rewrite and .htaccess WebP modes are not compatible when media is offloaded to a CDN.
Which image formats are supported?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF.
Does Squeeze work with Gutenberg, GenerateBlocks, Voxel, and Elementor?
On-upload squeeze works with Gutenberg, GenerateBlocks, and Voxel (free). Elementor on-upload squeeze is a Premium feature.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. Use Bulk Squeeze for Media Library attachments (pause/resume supported) or Directory Squeeze for any folder under your site root. Back up before directory runs — automatic .bak backups are not created in directory mode.
