Introductions
Aug. 29th, 2026 04:41 pmdray posting in dreamwidth_pagansHi all, I'm an on-again, off-again practitioner, mostly because I flit from one thing to another so often that I find it tough to hold to rituals rooted in proper timing.
Still, I keep coming back and I'd like to chat with more pagans!
Name you would like to go by:
-Please call me 'Dray'; in the vein of 'strong horse-drawn wagon' rather than 'like the rapper'.
Present path or tradition:
- Mainlining Insight-based traditions of Buddhism (focusing primarily on nurturing the four wise abodes of universal love, joy for others' success, compassion, and equanimity), with support from some divination work, work with unseen companions, and journaling shadow work. If I have any particular fondness for deities, I'd say that Kwan Yin is currently my favourite. She's mainly a Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion, and (at least in the queer sitting group I attend) is widely considered in the LGBTQ+ community as a transfemme icon.
- My path leans almost unilaterally towards healing, learning about how to become embodied, and how to bring succour for a busy mind and aching heart-space. I like to cultivate a joyful space!
Interests:
- With regards to spirituality, I value community and an almost fandom-like space of sharing ideas. I quite love the in-person meditation sits I've found in town and would adore more in-person pagan exchanges, but I just haven't found my people, locally, yet. I'm looking forward to learning more about how these two modes of belief can support one another.
Age (not mandatory):
- Currently in my early 40's!

- I'm a dabbler without a lineage or tradition, and in my day-to-day life I'm in the animation and VFX industry doing production work, and I've a degree in character design and illustration. I like to incorporate art and craft into my practice, since working with my hands fuels all the things I value in the arcane. I also like working with "coincidence", which is a conglomerate of those useful spirits that like to get involved and like to be given gratitude. My matrilineal line dabbled in pagan things in ways that I don't think they really wanted to cop to, so I feel like I've got a hodgepodge of 'witchy' things that have defined how I approach my own faith.

Final Fantasy XI expanding its free trial in September

The current version of the free trial has a level cap of 50 and allows just a 14 days of playtime. The new, expanded trial bumps the level cap up to 75, with no restriction on playtime, allowing players to really immerse themselves in the base game and explore all it has to offer. At character creation, players can choose one of the following jobs:
Warrior, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage, Thief
Additional jobs will be available at level 30 by doing a side quest: Paladin, Beastmaster, Dark Knight, Bard, Ranger, Summoner*
* Summoners will not be able to get all the summons available in game during the free trial, and their Artifact Gear is not available in the free trial as well.
There are other restrictions as well, detailed in the post. For those familiar with the FFXIV Free Trial, the restrictions are much the same: limits on communication, gil caps, etc.
So what DO you get?
I know for many of my friends, FFXI is the only Final Fantasy game in the main series that they haven't played. Therefore, I'm excited about this free trial possibly attracting more players and giving them a chance to experience its story.
One thing of note for those familiar with its sister MMO: unlike FFXIV which has a World Travel System, FFXI does not. You can transfer your character to another world for a fee, but you cannot visit other worlds. So choose your world wisely!
I'm on the Valefor, and would be happy to guide any new players around the game. I'm usually playing on one of four characters these days:
* Siofra (streaming story on her sometimes)
* Altheav (my former main; I dabble on her occassionally)
* Amalberga (going through story again for documentation purposes
* Valara (she's doing Windurst missions, again for documentation purposes

- The three Starter Nation mission lines, up through Rank 5, with a self-contained story that concludes by setting up the Rise of the Zilart expansion (RotZ is not part of the Free Trial)
- Access to the 12 jobs listed above
- Access to at least 12 regions, with each region having 4-8 zones
- Access to plenty of side-quests to keep you busy
- Access to HELM: Harvesting, Excavation, Logging and Mining
- Access to Crafting with 8 crafts to explore.
- Access to Fishing, though you'll be limited to how many fish you can catch per day.
- Access to base Artifact gear for your jobs (excluding Summoner)
- Probably access to the original zones for Dynamis, the games' first "end game" activity. This would allow access to SOME Relic Armor, and would likely allow creation of the first one or two steps of Relic Weapons
- Seasonal Events and cross-overs.

I mostly post about: my fandoms and fanworks, as well as some personal stuff from time to time.
My hobbies are: watching TV shows, writing fanfiction, making icons and fanart (very occasionally), listening to podcasts/audiodrama.
My fandoms are: mostly sci-fi shows, my main ones at the moment being Blake's 7 and Classic Doctor Who. Others include Farscape, Star Trek, Babylon 5, due South, Stargate SG-1, and British soap operas (when I feel like it).
I'm looking to meet people who: are also involved in fandom, even if we don't have a big fandom overlap, and especially if they also like creating fanworks.
My posting schedule tends to be: pretty sporadic, and I've been known to forget about using Dreamwidth for a while but I've been pretty active these past few months.
When I add people, my dealbreakers are: homophobia, racism, transphobia, conservative politics...
Before adding me, you should know: my personal posts can be a bit pessimistic at times, and with fandoms I get very obsessive. I also write smut so you might see some of that, but it's not all I write if that's a concern for you. I engage with dark topics in fiction (reading and writing) so if that upsets you, we won't get along. I'm not religious myself despite my Catholic upbringing, but I respect other people's beliefs as long as they aren't forced on me.
