been doing a lot more intensive research on (computer) home labs, and really excited for what's taking shape :3 christmas list below ~

* purpose: C&C LAN server ("NERV")
hardware: likely on a s76 meekrat. there is a small chance i'll use my old flashed android phone initially (once when the current working phone is migrated over to the new GrapheneOS... let's see if i can do that by end of year....) as an "alpha" to test various connections without fear of breaking anything new. would y'all say i'm a nerd if i named that alpha one SEELE :p
software: proxmox
notes: will double as the media storage as a a VM and probably a few other VM buckets until it outgrows those.

-> backup drive
hardware: 1TB backup WD drive (current, have had for 10 years)
software: n/a, works as-is
notes:  manual backups currently. will replace with a dedicated souped up S76 mini meekrat with ideally 10-15TB when RAM prices drop, and then set up automatic more frequent backups for everything.

-> unifi security cameras
hardware: see above, local only
software: see above, data stays within LAN. camera security not optional, but doing my best to keep data local-only and away from gov/corporate surveillance unlike shitass ring. me being a penny-pincher, i also like the no subscription perk. :v
notes: buying one early (in the next month or so) to test with the C&C server. the naming would entirely be on brand if i named them EVA01, EVA02, etc. get in the camera, baka-shinji! :p

-> switch->(into)->flint 3e router
hardware: netgear ethernet 8-port switch, unmanaged + aforementioned router.
software: router will have openwrt by default
notes:  (there's a good chance the new house won't have great wifi since there's a lot of steel/concrete; I'm more of a fan of hardwired ethernet/wired connections vs repeaters anyway since i'm tired of the current, supposedly "good" wifi dropping at least every day even after a few techs claimed to fix it, and i'm having the new house built with ethernet plugs everywhere by default. or at least by known tv locations & offices.)

-> raspi #1: whole-house pihole
hardware: raspberry pi (already purchased 2 years ago)
software: pihole
notes: tl;dr whole-house adblocker and connections sanitizer to prevent "smart" gadgets from leaking signals.

-> raspi #2: if it has enough bandwidth/storage; bsky pds. if not enough, then testing ground.
hardware: raspberry pi (already purchased 2 years ago)
software: see above
notes: if there's one thing i've learned from the orange site, it's don't test in production, etc. :p

future additions: plex, self hosted irc, remote local-only vacuum, self hosted personal site, most likely on more s76 meekrats as needed.

.... this isn't even including MAGI1&2&3 aka the linux laptops and steam deck halp i have a problem lmao

rionaleonhart: goes wrong: unparalleled actor robert grove looks handsomely at the camera. (unappreciated in my own time)
[personal profile] rionaleonhart
Yesterday, I went to see the Comedy About Spies matinée at the Adelphi Theatre! The Comedy About Spies is not a Goes Wrong production, but it is a Mischief Theatre production, and it stars most of the cast of The Goes Wrong Show.

Several other members of the Goes Wrong fandom were attending the same performance, so I met up with [archiveofourown.org profile] Purple_vulture, [archiveofourown.org profile] LancashireGirl and [tumblr.com profile] you-know-your-name for a meal before the show! Both [archiveofourown.org profile] Purple_vulture and [archiveofourown.org profile] LancashireGirl told me that they previously hadn't much liked Robert, but my fanfiction had helped them like him. I was absolutely thrilled to hear I'd helped to bolster Robert's popularity within the Goes Wrong fandom. No higher praise.

We took our seats before the show; [tumblr.com profile] you-know-your-name and I were sitting together. The stage had a silhouetted backdrop of the London skyline. [tumblr.com profile] you-know-your-name suddenly pressed a hand over their face and started laughing.

[tumblr.com profile] you-know-your-name: Not me seeing Big Ben and thinking, Oh, it's that thing from Peter Pan.
Riona: I suppose you're not wrong!

Henry Lewis was very handsome and his hair looked great. That alone could have carried me very happily through a couple of hours, but, as a bonus, The Comedy About Spies is a very fun, very slick play, with great performances all around and a lot of ambitious physicality. I really enjoyed myself. What a lovingly done, absolutely committed performance of farce.

The Comedy About Spies, 30 August 2026. )

And then, emboldened by being in the company of another Mischief fan, I went to the stage door! I've never met actors at the stage door before, and I was slightly nervous, but it was a really good experience overall. [tumblr.com profile] you-know-your-name was increasingly vibrating with excitement after every person we met, which was a delight to see.

I'd brought my Christmas Carol Goes Wrong script along, just so I had something that could potentially be signed. I wasn't sure until the last moment whether I'd actually ask for autographs; I knew I wanted to ask the actors whether they were willing to be hugged, and I thought that requesting autographs on top of that might be too much! But, when Greg came out with his own pen poised and ready, it immediately became clear that the actors were very relaxed about autographing things, so I did indeed get signatures in the end.

Meeting the Goes Wrong/Comedy About Spies cast at the stage door. )

When I got home, I told my housemates (who enjoy the Goes Wrong Show) that I'd shaken Henry Lewis's hand, and that I'd hugged the actors of Vanessa, Annie, Chris and Trevor.

I wandered out of the room, and then paused. Something didn't feel right. I flipped my Christmas Carol Goes Wrong script open and double-checked the signatures.

I poked my head back into the room. "I've just realised that, appropriately enough, I forgot that I also hugged Jonathan's actor."

I feel bad about it. I'm sorry, Greg! You were so nice!

Franklin created his first alter ego when he was in his teens: a middle-aged widow named Silence Dogood. Mrs. Dogood allowed Franklin to evade an embargo against publication imposed by his jealous elder brother James, a printer to whom Ben was apprenticed. James had a newspaper and sought contributors, but he refused Ben’s submissions as corrosive of the master-apprentice relationship. So Ben disguised his handwriting and surreptitiously slipped letters from Mrs. Dogood under the door of the print shop. Franklin’s account of her life delighted readers while underscoring the difficulties facing widows and women of the day.

( was charmed by this and how evading a style of informal censorship was every bit as natural to him as it was to me/most likely many of you reading this. i think he would appreciate early fujo culture very much. )

It has been a while!

This isn't really a "I'm back now" post, as I have promised that before and promptly disappeared into the sea again (oops), but I just wanted to pop my head in and say I'm alive and well! Very well, actually, compared to the horrors of last year haha.

Some updates, in random order of importance:

-I am still scribbling fic in notebooks, but haven't actually typed any up since 3sf ended in February. I'll probably get back to ut at some point! I'm mainly trying not to pressure myself all that much.

-I got a Steam Deck for my birthday! And, uh, immediately got addicted to that Steamdeck. XD I used to be a bit wary of referring to myself as a gamer, as I tend to panic wildly when faced woth most game mechanics, but... I'm a gamer. It's very fun. XD

-My main gaming project has been Higurashi When They Cry. Which I am OBSESSED with, but so far have felt little desire to write fanfic about. I've just started chapter 3, everything is wonderfully disturbing. <3

-They may be discussing my still lingering heart surgery in September. I'll believe it when I'm on the table, frankly. We had a broef scare where they thought I'd had another mini-stroke, but luckily it was just a weird ass migraine.

-Most excitingly of all: My spouse came out as non-binary at the beginning of this year! They're being very careful about who they tell in real life, which is fair considering the Bad Place we find ourselves in, but I am SO proud of them and it's so lovely to see them so comfortable in their skin. And even hotter than ever, of course. <33

I think that's about everything! Not much has been going on, which is lovely considering the years before. XD This is my year of rest and relaxation, and depressing myrder visual novels apparently.

I hope you’re all doing well!

Once again, this is a work by a close friend, who provided me with the review copy.

I like middle books best, and one of the things I like best in middle books is ramifications. You've had the chance to set up both world and characters, you have some idea what parameters the particular series is working under: how does Corin Oshima react to aliens? What is her idea of honor? What kind of goals does she find satisfying? We know all that now, we've had it established, so now's the time to double down on matter anomalies, first contacts, and oh yes, solving a murder.

The Ralkhuri are here, Corin still has a fraught but duty-laden working relationship with the person who betrayed her most deeply before the series ever started, and we're definitely poking into the deeper layers of meaning of life, the universe, and everything. And this time the answer is much more complicated than 42. Don't start here, start with the first book, it's very much in print--but definitely keep going, there's a lot here to love.

Hi all, I'm an on-again, off-again practitioner, mostly because I flit from one thing to another so often that I find it tough to hold to rituals rooted in proper timing.

Still, I keep coming back and I'd like to chat with more pagans!

Name you would like to go by:
-Please call me 'Dray'; in the vein of 'strong horse-drawn wagon' rather than 'like the rapper'.

Present path or tradition:
- Mainlining Insight-based traditions of Buddhism (focusing primarily on nurturing the four wise abodes of universal love, joy for others' success, compassion, and equanimity), with support from some divination work, work with unseen companions, and journaling shadow work. If I have any particular fondness for deities, I'd say that Kwan Yin is currently my favourite. She's mainly a Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion, and (at least in the queer sitting group I attend) is widely considered in the LGBTQ+ community as a transfemme icon.
- My path leans almost unilaterally towards healing, learning about how to become embodied, and how to bring succour for a busy mind and aching heart-space. I like to cultivate a joyful space!

Interests:
- With regards to spirituality, I value community and an almost fandom-like space of sharing ideas. I quite love the in-person meditation sits I've found in town and would adore more in-person pagan exchanges, but I just haven't found my people, locally, yet. I'm looking forward to learning more about how these two modes of belief can support one another.

Age (not mandatory):
- Currently in my early 40's!

Brief Bio:
- I'm a dabbler without a lineage or tradition, and in my day-to-day life I'm in the animation and VFX industry doing production work, and I've a degree in character design and illustration. I like to incorporate art and craft into my practice, since working with my hands fuels all the things I value in the arcane. I also like working with "coincidence", which is a conglomerate of those useful spirits that like to get involved and like to be given gratitude. My matrilineal line dabbled in pagan things in ways that I don't think they really wanted to cop to, so I feel like I've got a hodgepodge of 'witchy' things that have defined how I approach my own faith.

Deleteduser.com - a $15 PII magnet - Can you believe this is how some companies handle deleted users in their databases? Somehow I am still surprised.

The Consequences of Caste in Village India - Examination of life in rural India and the economic (and other) roles caste plays. Worth reading alone for the description of how kinship networks act as both floor and ceiling — it doesn't completely disappear in urban environments but it's way less of a force, and easier to escape.

Forests in the olden days - YouTube video on what medieval-era managed and unmanaged woods actually looked like

> People who do/don't drink coffee: why did you start?

thinking back, i always had chronic exhaustion (most likely culprit being osteoarthritis from birth), and initially i appreciated that morning kick, but also really love the warmth, even in southern summers. to me it has more body/flavor than tea, which i try to get into several times a year but never could.

starbucks mochas very specifically (no other mocha) also have a weird mystery ingredient that usually lends a really strong drawing "groove" kick for the rest of the day. used to have a bad reliance on those when i worked in-office since there was one within walking distance, but now it's just a once a month treat.

generally these days it's a stringent x2 small cups of dunkin donuts per day (via those giant costco tins). :)  cheap, good moderation, still gets the kick.

Dear Creator in a Box,

Hello and thank you so much for creating for me. I am [archiveofourown.org profile] Silvereye on AO3.

In this letter I’ve tried to talk about my likes and give prompts for (almost) every fandom/tag, however if you have an idea you like better and it doesn’t contradict my DNWs, go for it. (I have not given specific prompts for WB: Any in any fandom. I enjoy worldbuilding and strongly believe Any means Any in these cases.)

The sections of this letter are of different lengths, but this does not mean I want the fandoms with shorter sections any less. I reuse prompts heavily and have requested some of these fandoms for years so I’ve had a lot of time to rack up a massive prompt list; also I request a bunch of tags for some fandoms and mere 1 or 2 for others. Also, if I have already gotten a gift for a prompt in this letter it does not mean I disliked the first gift, I’m just way past “two cakes” and in the territory of “may I have the entire bakery, please?”
