i have gotten multiple nice emails this year.
most folk are alright.
If I think about it, my job is pretty close to that of my idol, Dr. Gordon Freeman. Somewhat overqualified to be putting samples into spectrometers, dealing with radiation hazards, constantly fearing the consequences of people not taking lab safety seriously... Good thing I also have a crowbar in my office.
Learn how KDE is becoming an essential piece in the #sovereign stack for companies, NGOs, public institutions and individuals by improving compatibility with other fundamental software solutions such as #Nextcloud , #Matrix and #LibreOffice.

This might be controversial but environmental and ethical concerns are good actually
I love that leftist political advocacy for people is like "What if we were nice to each other and didn't commit omnicide on ourselves by destroying our only planet we can live on" and right wing advocacy is like "Ok but what if we banned ugly people from the toilet?"
Fuck Palantir.
German public broadcasting did a podcast series called "Inside Palantir" where they interviewed an ex-employee of Palantir and whistleblower.
The whistleblower said that when you apply at #Palantir, you are asked: "How comfortable are you to work on software that is used for killing people?"
I simply refuse to believe that anyone (including an utterly naive twenty-something who freshly graduated from college and never reads any newspaper) could accidentally slide into a job at Palantir without knowing what Palantir is doing and what they're applying for.
I refuse to believe, "I didn't know what I was signing up for when I applied at Palantir—I was so inexperienced and naive—but now that I'm at Palantir and know better, I cannot resign because my health insurance is tied to this job."
When you apply at Palantir, you know full well what you're signing up for. The CEO is not exactly shy about it, newspapers report about it, and Palantir itself fucking tells you—before you even get your contract, during your application—that they will use *your work* to kill people. You cannot land the job without knowing you'll be an accessory to murder.
Even the most naive gullible person should run away at that point.
Fuck Palantir. Fuck everyone who works for them. Fuck everyone who works for them and refuses to resign.
Resigning from Palantir won't clear the blood from your hands when you knowingly accepted their offer in the first place. Resigning won't open the gates to Heaven for you. But it is a great and necessary first step.
Also, fuck everyone who collaborates with Palantir employees. Fuck every open-source project whose maintainers include Palantir employees. (Looking at a certain text editor whose maintainers also like to hang around with fascist DHH and speak on his conference OMACON.) Fuck everyone who is friends with a Palantir employee and doesn't talk some sense into their friend or ends the friendship.
The podcast series will be released on July 31.
Apologies for linking to a news site that uses the "Pay or Okay" model to force you into accepting tracking. Check out Bayrischer Rundfunk (BR) for the root source. Everything's in German anyway in case you don't speak German.
Your QtWidgets apps, such as Dolphin, KMail, Kate etc. can now use the Union CSS files as the source of their styling — first look.

Disclaimer: Note that there are still visual bugs and oddities that @aks is already working on!
Merged the initial work for Union QtWidgets style!

Huge MR, since a lot of things had to be sort of done from scratch. There are many bugs, and likely many edgecases to uncover. Time to fix those next!
Very happy #sourcehut user right now.

Yeah sure we're left behind, capitalism, whatever.
But this signals sourcehut is for human software and for people who care about the process as much as the end result. That makes me happy, as that helps keep software maintainable.
Changes to SourceHut's terms of service regarding LLMs

Back in the days: "Oh this GitHub project's readme looks not very professional and the commit messages look like from a teenager."
Today: "Messy commit messages and typos in the readme? This must have been written by a human, not by an LLM. So nice! I want to use it!"
i fucking love quake
